Too Late to Return?Follow

Hello Everyone!

Well, i am intending to return to FFXI on 1st September as i miss the game and i am wondering if it is too late to return or should i return to game? the last time i logged in was on 30 April 2007. I would actually have returned like yesterday but i think that POL / SE will bill me for an entire month even though i only played half a month, correct?

I am still stuck at lvl 63 | Galka Paladin(i think) and so many things must have happened since May 2007. Do Paladins (and Galkan Paladins @ that) have to wait for 10 hours before an invite? Grinding it to lvl. 75 is really tough....

In fact, i am thinking of recreating a new toon but the thought of having to grind it out terrifies me as most peeps in FFXI are like all lvl.75 and doing end game stuff

I am also looking for a new LS as i think my old LS, SG Friends, is like ... rather inactive? I am hoping for some peeps whom i can form a static group with to level up some of the character classes, participate in Promy, Ballista etc.

However, the fact that i am from Singapore (USA Eastern Standard Time +12 hours), makes it difficult for many i think including myself to meet up and form statics. Add to the fact that i am married with a daughter makes time commitment all that much difficult.

Is it too late to return and lvl my PLD to 75 and enjoy all that FFXI has to offer?

Now is as good of a time as any to rejoin, though technically the ~2nd of the month after they do the monthly billing server maint. is the best time.

Tank invite rates are typically pretty sweet, though they'll be a lot worse if you're trying to turtle on PLD. Hybrid PLDs that also make an attempt to deal damage while tanking tend to make an impact on people, enough to make that party leader remember your name the next time he wants to put a party together.

Hello bsphil, thanks for replying!

Sad to say, all i known about being a PLD is turtling as it was how it was played back when i started in 2004 although i have been told by WHMs that it is boring for them as i soak up so much DMG that they have nothing to do and the DDs can go crazy as i usually hold aggro very well...but of course that was all yesterday's news.

Which is why i am asking about the status of tanks now. I have been reading up a little and PLDs are now subbing RDM and NIN jobs in exp grps? How do they hold the hate? Hmmm...

BTW, you are from the Triumvirate LS, if i am not wrong? Are there a lot of low to mid level (20 - 40)guys in LS? I am thinking of leveling up my Warrior, Ninja and Monk classes actually. You are all from USA?

/RDM doesn't really work in exp, it's situationally used for solo (phalanx) and tanking HNMs that deal lots of magic damage such as JoL or Proto-Ultima (MDB trait).

/NIN works at merit level, more situational in the mid-high range. Flash for initial hate, wear full DD gear so you should be holding decent hate as is. You'll lose hate eventually, that's the nature of TP burning though. Toss another flash if you need to or use a JA, but otherwise just go for all out DD. Be ready to cure the DD that pulls hate when they start to get smacked around. WHMs and PUPs can help toss extra flashes into the mix to ease that a bit more.

Yeah I'm in Triumvirate, we're mostly from the US (Tachys is from New Zealand iirc). And yes, there's a fairly wide level range for us as well.

thanks again for the reply, dude. i really appreciate it. So i guess that in an exp party, which i will be in a lot of since i am not 75 yet, i would have to go as PLD/WAR if i intend to level my PLD.

Alternatively, i could just scrap PLD and go WAR all the way as Tank + DD.

So i guess that in this sense, nothing has changed all that drastically for a year plus since i have been AFK from the game.

I would like to submit an application for Triumvirate due to the level range and the fact that you all do seem like great guys. Australian and NZ are great for me as they are closer to my time zone. They are about 1.5 50 2 hours ahead of my country's.

Dammit, i want to return so bad but gotta wait for a couple more weeks as i do not wish to be billed for 1 full month and only playing for half that...

Well, not always. /NIN is a good subjob to have ready and on-hand. "Sh*t is situational" is the general motto of FFXI.

Hi Soulin,

Ragnarok has the largest base of Singaporeans across all servers so no worries about not having PTs etc.

In fact, most SG players have migrated from various other servers to Ragnarok since they implemented World Migration back in July 2007.

SGFriends have been renamed SGDeathWolf and they are still active.

Escaflowne is another active SG LS.

The LS that I belong to (TheRoundTableLS) consists primarily of Ex-Bahamut + Ex-Kujata SG Players. We're not recruiting atm though as we are intentionally keeping it small and tight-knit.

There are also a few SG Players in various HNMLS on Ragnarok.

Any LS is fine though as long as you are having fun. ^^

Welcome back.

Not to hijack your topic, but I am also thinking of coming back to my birth server, but I do recall there being a EST slump when I was playing heavily.

Does anyone around here play heavy during 6pm - Midnight EST on Weekdays? I recall the LFP and such being kinda barren, as on Shiva, that timeframe looks pretty decent.

I'm just curious on that timeframe and how it looks for action, as I am a NA player, who has played with just about every sliver of geography with access to FFxI.

I can't speak for NA or EU Players but I believe the majority of Asian / Oceanic based gamers play at the following Prime-time (in relative terms):

Australia (Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney):
4am EST - 9am EST (Their 7pm - Their Midnight)

Asia (Japan and Korea):
5am EST - 10am EST (JP 7pm - JP Midnight)

Asia-Australia (Perth, China, Hong Kong, Malayia, Singapore, Taiwan):
6am EST - 11am EST (Our 7pm - Our Midnight)

Most Singaporeans (myself included), play during this period daily.

Asia (Indonesia, Thialand):
7am EST - 12pm EST (Their 7pm - Their Midnight)

-----

Do correct me if I make any mistakes. I am very used to the GMT System that we use around this region but is quite unfamiliar with the EST that NA Players use.

Edit:
Edited format and spelling mistakes in Countries' Names.
