A small rant...Follow

#1 Sep 02 2004 at 9:00 PM Rating: Decent
I feel I am at a weird place in this game. I don't know quite how to explain it, but oftimes I feel that I am not heading in the right direction, or that I am not focusing where I should be. So far I have leveled myself to 27 by only soloing. I did try to party once with one other person, but that only lasted for one fight, LOL. Reading through this forum is quite educational and I learned something else today. I guess by now I should have had a subjob, but I don't.

What I have done (aside from leveling to 27) is take my goldsmithing skills to level 10 (not very high) as well as complete every quest and mission available to me (44). My next goal is to complete my subjob (Selbina) and chocobo license quests.

Perhaps I have been too focused to leveling/farming/questing to pay attention to other areas.

Any thoughts here from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

If you Currently do not have a Subjob @ 27, that will probally be part of the limiting Feeling, and the lack of Pt Action.

I took a Bit to get the Flow and feel of PT action, and I think I solo'd the Mnk til 15 or so Solo.

Phase 1 might be to ask a Resident 30+ or so to help you Score the Subjob Q. From there, Just Poke about (Probally Kaazam) for some PT action. Another friendly PT Practice is some Good Macros (if not in place now) I can not count how many times a PT has Died because a Mage in Valk Dunes did not want to Make a "Cure" Macro, instead of Menu Pokes Til the Tank Dies.

Hope the Above Blurb was Helpful in Any way :x You may want to Level your Subjob, and try PT's w/ the lower Class, should be easier to get the XP ball rolling to start :)

I think that is one of my problems, LOL. I hate asking other players for favors. I feel like I am inconveniencing them. I guess I need to get over that. :)

Do you think I can do the subquest job on my own? All I really need to do is make it to Jeuno. I can buy the required items at the AH.

Therein lies another of my weaknesses. I don't know how to create a macro. Can I do these while soloing? So I can practice before entering a party? I don't want to let anyone down while in a party.

BTW, thanks for your response. :)

Glad I was helpful :) For Macros, Autocomplete w/ tab helps alot for defined words. Bard only has parcial words for songs, but allas.

I Just wastched some Tv Land, after getting email about being laid off on Halloween. Once my Paycheck deposits, I have to see ya round :-)

Ozment, a brief tutorial on macros:

Macros are used to either say a pre-typed message, or to quickly use one or more weapon skills, job abiltiies, spells, et al. You have 20 macro sets; 10 are tied to the ALT key, & 10 to the CTRL key. Each macro set can hold 10 macros. This means that you can have a total of 200 macros at the same time.

To use a macro (and im assuming you have a keyboard), just hold down the corresponding key (CTRL or ALT), and press the number of the macro you want to use (1-0 on the keyboard, with "0" counting as "10".) You can move between the macro sets by holding down CTRL or ALT and using the up & down arrow keys.

Making a macro: Go to the main in-game menu and select "Macros." You will see a lotta boxes. To the right, you have an option to "Cut" (delete + temporarily store) and "Paste" (copy the stored macro into the selected box.) If you click on a box, you will see a menu with an empty space at the top, and 6 empty lines. The empty space is the macro title: you can type up to 8 characters in it, and the first 5 or so will show up on the corresponding box when you press CTRL or ALT in normal game mode. The other 6 empty lines are for typing out your macro.

Common combat macro commands include:

/ja "Jobability" - Where Jobability is the name of the job ability you want to macro.
/ma "Spell" - Where Spell is the name of the spell you wish to macro.
/ws "Weaponskill" - Where Weaponskill is the name of the weapon skill you wish to macro.
<t> - Added to the end of a /ja, /ma, or /ws command; automatically targets the monster you have targeted. So, for example, a macro for the Stone spell might look like: /ma "Stone" <t>
<bt> - Like <t>, but automatically targets any "red" monster; i.e., the one you have claimed. Therefore, a macro for Stone that uses <bt> might look like: /ma "Stone" <bt>
<me> - Like <t>, but automatically targets you. Therefore, if you wanted to cure yourself mid-battle, a macro might look like: /ma "Cure" <me>
/equip Slot "Item" - Where Item is the name of a certain item, and Slot is the name of the item slot to which the item corresponds. This macro is used to quickly equip weapons and armor. So, for example, if you wanted to equip a Longsword, the macro would look like: /equip Main "Longsword"
/item "Itemname" - Where Itemname is usually a consumable item (i.e. food) you have in your inventory. This macro allows you to quickly use consumable items. For example, a macro to use a Melon Pie might look like: /item "Melon Pie" <me>
/wait # - Where # is the amount of seconds you wish to wait. This adds a delay in between multiple commands. So, for example, say you wanted to give your party a three-second warning before you used a weaponskill. The macro might look like this:

/p Using Fast Blade in 3!
/wait 3
/ws "Fast Blade" <t>

Well, that's all I can remember off the top of my head. Post on here if you have anymore questions, & good luck :)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the quest has to be done, as the items cannot be bought. All the items needed are rare/exclusive items that can not be sold or traded. So you're going to have to get that quest done. But for future reference, you can always solo yourself to level 30 and become a Beastmaster - sounds like it might be the perfect job for you!

Responding to macros, you can also have <st> at the end (sub-target) and it lets you use a JA or spell on the selected sub target (which you pick with a purple arrow). This aolows you to be locked on to a target fighting and cure a pt member at the same time =)

Hey!!!

Thanks to all of you for the great advice, especially Cydille
Scholar. I think I need to play around with the macros function to get used to it. I wish I had more time to play the game. Work and school both keep me busy, so I am lucky if I get in 2 hours a night, 4 nights a week.

I kinda wanted to be a summoner. Is that a bad choice? :)

No, I can't give the amount of time that would be respectful of other players. I guess I'll have to be solo-only in Ragnarok. I don't mind, I play the game to relieve stress from the rest of my life.
