Great story. This is exactly what I am trying to avoid with the Avengers linkshell. I'm tired of linkshells that start out great, and either break up, or get overloaded with demanding, know-it-all, LS jumpers. I don't just offer up the pearl to anyone I see in the game. I usually won't offer the pearl to anyone until after I have partied with them for a few hours and begin to understand why they are playing the game. That is why there are only a few members right now.

When I started playing this game, there were 5 of us who would try to stick together. Now there are 3 of us... and we each have a pearl to this linkshell. Even if we aren't going to see each other in game for the night, we still send a /tell to say hi and see how it's going.

Sure, I'd like to see the end game, but I am in no rush to get there. I wanted to be a mage, and now I have all the mage jobs at or above level 20. I like to see new things in this game. Levelling, levelling, levelling gets boring, boring, boring. I guess I have more of that WHM in me than anything. I wear my pearl with pride, even if I'm the only one wearing it at the time.

Wahhhhh! That's so sad!!

It reminds me of all the fun I have every time I go to a new area, I love every new experience in this game. Even when it's leveling as long as it's a new experience I have fun. Lately I've been able to have a few new experiences, travelling to Cape Terrigan and deep into Onzozo for the first times. Partying in King Ranperre's Tomb, defeating the Shadow Lord finally... I had a ton of fun on a recent AF3 run, helping each other and experiencing new things together... I unfortunately fall into the same trap of leveling or forgetting the fun in the game. But I still think I've stayed as true to adventuring as possible and I hope that once Chains of Promathia comes out that we'll all go as a large group to the new areas, I want to see expedition alliances starting in Jeuno. I know I already have plans to check out the Emptiness with a friend of mine that I've long since passed in levels.

That's a very good story, and all too true in this game...

For the LS part, I've been in my same LS since November of last year, one of the original members (since I know the owner IRL). I've seen members come and go, personally myself I've only handed out a handful of pearls, and glad that some of those regulars are still there.

As was stated in one of those posts in response to that original thread, the biggest problem in this FFXI community is that it is too easy to get / join / leave / get new linkshells. I'm not saying it should be terribly hard to get in one, but without limits or expectations, there will always be a good portion of players who only want to be in linkshells that do things for them, not with them. If this linkshell isn't high enough level to get my AFs, Coffer keys, missions ect. solo (or in a small group), or can't keep up with my leveling standards, I guess its time to for me to ditch the cooperation and get on the freeloader bandwagon. It's not like I'm terribly upset at the so called LS jumping, it just irks me.

As for the adventure part of this game, I remember that time (I still have a bit here and there, but not near on the same scale). I leveled up in Windurst, took to my first party in Shakrami Maze (most people haven't even leveled there), then at my ripe level age as 15 monk, took the boat over to the 'new world' of Selbina and Valkrum Dunes. I remember running around and checking out the new mobs in awe (never saw any fly type or sheep type mobs before). For one of the few times in my gaming in here I was enthralled with the Dunes, of course later on when I found it to be a hated workhorse for the xp driven gamer, it lost alot of its shine and luster.

The last real awe inspiring moment I've had in this game now was venturing into Zi T'ah my first time at lvl 40ish monk (I put off doing Samurai for too long, hehe). It is such a nice place, but now it seems like every new place I go I have to be in a party, and the objective is 'what can I kill?' rather than 'what can I experience?'

Overall very good story, I hope alot of people learn from that, because I know I have.

Geat story.

Ive been in the same LS since it was handed to me by doriana(smopoe). Ive spent the last week running around doing nothing just seeing stuff and sometimes things. Its good to take a break from lvling farming ect. so you dont get bored with the game and quit.

good story, i remember several ppl that i added to my ls when they were new to the game, just to have them leave the ls to join a bigger one.... oh well, my ls has always been kept small, most of the members are from the release but now we are starting to expand, I have owned several pearls from some of the larger LSs on the server, but found that everytime i step into them i get a cold reception that is y i broke them all but my own, i am glad that my ls is still more like a family then just a chat room.

Doesn't this remind you guys of the story or plot behind the whole FFXI the nations were so ****-bent on progress and power that they weren't united against the greater evil?

Ya know what though? I personally don't see any point in criticizing how people play the game as long as they aren't antagonizing noobs or stealing, cheating, etc. Play the game however you are comfortable with it.

For those of you who only want to level, seek power, fame, gil, etc. just chalk it up to survival of the fittest and have fun.
