Part-time players on Phoenix......Follow

Ok, so I admit it. I think I may possibly be the slowest leveler in Phoenix history. I have been playing this game since February, and last night I just hit 29 with my main, RDM.

Hence the topic of this thread. I love this game. It is fun, relaxing (most of the time), and I have met some fantastic people. I try to be the best player I can be; I research my job, keep up to date on spells and equipment, and always use food. But because of life and other limitations, I play much more infrequently than most people I meet in-game. I was wondering if there were others out there who have the same dilemma as I do.

Case in point: almost everytime I meet a fantastic player in a party, he/she is levels ahead of me next time I look them up. Partied for a few days in the jungles with an awesome party leader...for three days in a row he invited me into his parties every time I came on. Got great xp and didn't die once (a rarity in the jungles....god I hate gobs!). Took a few days off to live apart from my computer (as I am apt to do), and when I came back he had gained 6 or 7 levels on me. No more partying with my great leader. :(

So, I was wondering if there were any other players in my prediciment. It can be frustrating to watch someone who asked you a question as a level one run by on a choco as a level 40. If there are other part-time players out there, let me know--either reply to this or send me a tell in game. Maybe we can lend each other some support. :)

I hear you, sister! I've been playing since April and have my main at 20, my sub at 10, and my WHM at 8. I only get to play about two hours a night (and maybe a little more on the weekends).

Last night I ran into one of the guys I partied with in the Dunes a month ago to get my sub-job quest. We were the same level then; last night I see he's level 19 in his advanced job! I know he has work and a family, but does he do anything else? I know I don't!

The only good part about this is tonight we're going to party together again in the Dunes! LOL

I've been playing since the PC launch in October, and barely made level 30 on my main character two weeks ago. I'm on almost every night too. I've got friends in the 70s, and am a sackholder in an LS that is geared toward the high-levels, but I've never made it to any of the levels they have.

On to the more serious question, have you ever considered leveling in other zones in a smaller party, or possibly a solo chareer? I'm starting a ninja sub for soloing purposes. You don't get party experience in solo, but you will level. As far as 2-3 person parties, it depends on where you fight. I'd suggest Delkfutt's Tower for decent EXP.

From your profile I see that your RDM is focused more on nuking and enfeebling. For the small party configuration, you'd be meleeing a lot while casting spells. The Platoon Dagger with the right En-spells is any RDM's friend. All you'd need is a decent tank and BRD if you can find one. Do you know anyone in your LS that fits this description?

Wow, those are some interesting suggestions that I hadn't thought of, thanks! As for a solo career, I'm not so sure I'm up for that. Part of what I love about this game is the interaction with others....I love meeting new people. But the smaller party idea sounds cool, I'll have to look into it.

Unfortunately, I am in a link that I absolutely LOVE, but they are all higher or lower levels than me. It's a relatively small link, only 10 people or so, but we are all very close. They help me out all the time. :) It's possible that I'd have better luck partying if I were in a larger link, but I'm hesitant to join one because of the issues that it sometimes causes between the members.

I will definately have to try leveling in the Tower...I liked leveling in there with a full party at lower levels, so I'm sure I'd like it now. Thanks Lady!

Mark me down as another slow slow leveller. I've been playing since Day 2 of the North American PC release (October, I think) and my highest level is only 32.

I just get really bored with levelling after a few days of it. I have much more fun when I'm levelling with Riloth, Dydo and other folks in our Maximum Monkey linkshell. We do that once a week or so.

Ahh...I too have the same dilemma, mainly because of the fact that I have a girlfriend (80% of my time at my choice) and the fact that my family (because I am only 18) is on the computer constantly when I want to play, I don't get the chance. So I have been playing since day 2 of the NA release and my highest level is 24. So I am in the slow levelling group. Oh well, it is still fun, maybe when I don't have a job in RL I can get a chance to actually get my advanced job in game. I would surely love to make Paladin.

I've had the game since November, shortly after the American release and my highest is also 32.

I can never make up my mind what I want to focus on. I took rdm/whm to 30. Then decide to level blm for rdm sub, but I really enjoyed it, so I took it to 32. I tried bst, thinking that it would fit my play style being able to solo, but I enjoy partying too much. I was running low on gil, so instead of farming with on of my other chars I decided to level bard...and I liked it.

So, now I'm at the point where I don't know if I'll stick with BRD or BLM to at least 40, then I'll try out RNG ^-^.

I started playing the Monday after Christmas. My character reached level 30...three weeks ago.

Then again, I'm someone who cares more about having fun than doing anything.

I've been playing since early November, so getting a 53 isn't bad I guess. But then I party with a 54 and he said he started the game in April, makes me feel like a slow leveler :o

Sadly, this game isn't really geared towards the casual gamers, which is a shame, since a good portion of players are of the casual persuasion. If you can't log on for at least 2 or 3 hours a day, you really won't get much accomplished.

Finding a party can take up a good chunk of that, and even if you do find one, you'll play for about 30 minutes, then the whm will need to log... and on and on it goes.

However, some of the options presented here will probably serve you just fine. I suppose the best advice I can give is just keep at it, try not to get burned out, and hopefully you'll do well.

Good to know there are so many other part-time players out there! Sometimes it just feels like EVERYONE on FFXI spends their life playing.

Just thought I'd let you all know, I finally reached my goal: I hit 30 last night! Woot! I was so excited that I did something I rarely do: I stayed up WAY too late and finished the bard quest. I was determined to do one of them, and it seemed like the easiest. :)

Thanks everyone for posting and letting me know I'm not alone. Oh, and Stormweaver, it was nice meeting you last night! If any of you ever want to chat, send a /tell to Arieanna. I love meeting new people. :)

There's a problem. I -do- spend my entire life playing FFXI...well, ON it at least. I'm not one of those people who decides "Oh, I'm going to go level for five days straight." Rather...I fish, and RP on the LS I'm a part of.

That's why I consider myself a part-timer, because I'm not leveling, questing, or anything but pushing my macro for fishing every fifteen seconds.

I started the first day the PS2 version was released.

I am now RDM33/WHM26/SMN20/BLM17. I thought I was leveling slow cause I have friends who started the same day I did. Their highest job might only be a level or two more than mine, but they have unlocked many more of the advanced jobs and have leveled them up to the 20s.

The problem is, some nights you can spend 1-2 hours just waiting for a party. Or if you get in a party as soon as you log into the game, it could really suck. For instance, just last night I was in a party that had a DRG/WHM who thought he was a backup healer and a SMN/BLM who thought he could melee with his staff. We went absolutly nowhere. I disbanded after 30 minutes and didn't find a party the rest of the night.

So if you can only play for 2 hours in a night, you might not have any luck in getting xp. Sometimes you get lucky, find a party right away and the xp just rolls right in.

I got this game in early June, and my highest job just hit 22 last night, er... early this morning. I only play for 2 or three hours a day, and i usually don't devote that time to joining xp parties. I actually soloed part of the way to 21, and then nearly all of the way to 22 on worms in Korroloka Tunnel.

I'm a Part-time gamer too. All the people from my first Linkshells are in their level 60's and 70's while I've just recently hit level 48.

If there was a way for me to level up my red mage just soloing, I'd enjoy this game SO much more. Unfortunately the 'check' system for the monsters is skewed to force everyone to play in parties together. I can't solo when 'Easy Prey' actually means 'Run For Your Dear Life'. :\

And don't forget the subtle change in meaning of "too weak to be worthwhile."

For the first few dozen levels, it's referring to the monster when you're soloing.

After that, it's referring to YOU.

I've heard that Beastmaster is the ultimate job for people who enjoy soloing. Does anyone know exactly how long you can continue to solo with that job?

when you start to make your way into the 60's and up it becomes far more difficult to solo, not to say that the right player cant do it but ultimately you have to party lol

Ooooo~, level 60 huh?

Bah! So even the in the 'soloing job' I have to eventually party! Evil!! ::Stabs the Square Enix Gods!!!::

Then again, level 60 isn't so bad. I think I could last not partying until level 60. Unfortunately I'm a mithra so going BST would probably result in death. -_-; ::sniffle.::

Warau! It could be far worse at least you'll look good lying there. Now as far as 60 thats the highest my LS has reported this does not however constitute the norm or the absolute standard. So I would encourage and applaud your decision to attempt to break it. Unfortunately you cant charm demons and such but I am unsure as to wether the same can be said of Manticore. (The mind boggles)

I've been playing since April 13 and my main job is 27. It's challenging for the reasons that many people have brought up already. However, I feel that the game can still be enjoyed while playing part-time. There are so many people that blast their way through to level 75 and forget that it's the journey, not the destination, that really matters.

I just wanted to let you guys know that there is yet another part time player out there as well.

Although I adore the game, and even pass through the forums on Allakhazam from time to time like the rest of you, I probably have managed about 6 hours a week since I got the game in April. And although I recently found a link shell group that seems pretty good, it's hard to find some of the other slow paced players out there to party with (if I can only play for a little while I don't want to join someone's party and leave them high and dry when I gotta log). But if you are on Phoenix and want to form a party with another part time player Smiley: smile send tell!

part time player...... yeah i think i qualafy as one.. most due to my work times... i work a 12 hour shift. 2 days on 2 days off and it switches shift every time i get on. meaning i work 7:30 am to 7:30 pm 2 days. get my 2 days off (play my brains off trying to get stuff done when i dont have to go back into work for something) then go back to work from 7:30 pm to 7:30 am for two more days.. then there is phisacal training and basic Marine stuff. so i am saddly only at level 24 for my main. witch is warrior. so if im on and you need a tank and nothing from the outside world is bugging me ill be happy to help for a few hours if i can. my info is in my signature peace out y'all

I guess I qualify as a part-time player.

I've had this game for 4 months now, Since importing it to the UK.

In that time, I've played:

Galka WAR, MNK, and WHM
Hume Male WAR, MNK.
Hume Female WAR, WHM, MNK, THF
Taru Male WHM, BLM, THF, WAR
Mithra WAR

In other words, I'm very inconsistant. Just yesterday, I restarted for what I've promised myself to be the final time, so I'm now Lorensia, the Hume Female San D'Orian THF on Phoenix server!

My "part-time" play comes from my limited times. Due to the fact that I am a sixteen year old school student, I get restricted times:

Mon - Fri: 2 hours a day
Sat - Sun: 4 Hours a Day.

It certainly makes this game difficult to play at times. I can't realyl PT all that much during the week, as I'd feel bad for leaving, and at weekends, I usually want to do other things like Missions or quests.

I'm right there with you too, though I play slightly more.

I still encounter the same scenario. Several times now, I've hooked up with a very good group for my THF, which is now at 61, but inevitably, they always pass me because I am unable to regularly commit long periods of time. Work, gf, and other hobbies prevent me from playing 4 hours a night every night.

That said, I started up BST so I could play during my morning coffee or during all my little breaks. I have played mostly solo and am now BST55. It has worked out really well for me and I would really suggest this to others in the same situation.^^

Edit: And btw, I have been leveling THF since early last November. :P So frustrating to get lapped by people who already hit 75 and caught up to you on a second job.

Wow I thought I was the only one with this problem. The same thing happens to me and its putting me on the verge of quitting. It would be nice to have a friend that I could actually stay in the same level range with though. :)

Arie I am the slowest lvler cause I started in December and I hit lvl 30 with my war in May, once I picked up drg job I hit 50 in August, and I have been lvlin drg since May. So it took me 5 months to get my war to lvl 30 to get advance jobs then it took me 3 months to get to lvl 50, so I am slower then you. Get this, basicly play everyday, unless I am working 12 hour shifts at work. When I was lvling war I was at lvl 12 for 2 months, I didnt gain a single exp even though I was partying, kept on dying. The whm's of the parties never healed me and get this I was puller/tank and the whm's never healed me, well they healed me once per fight. So I would say I am slower then you, there is probly a new PS2 player who started a month and a half ago that is probly higher then me in lvl.

Edit: I guess there are people who are slower then me, the way I was able to get my drg to lvl 50 is cause I had friends who waited for me to get to lvl 45 so they basicly pushed and helped me get parties or help me form a party, so I am slowly speeding up but I can still be concidered as being on the slow player list.
