I've been checking out a few new shows that started up this month, Mr Robot and Complications on USA, and Killjoys and Dark Matter on SciFi. So far Mr Robot is the frontrunner, but the rest are pretty solid too.

The main character in Mr Robot is a functional schizophrenic hacker by the name of Elliot. The show starts out with him narrating to what he considers to be an imaginary person. He knows he shouldn't be talking to an imaginary person, but he can't help it, he doesn't have anyone else to talk to. He works for cyber security firm during the day, which he hates, and hacks people in his spare time. During the first episode, he stops an attack on the servers of the evil corporation that he hates, and in so doing meets up with the group that initiated the attack. The writers seem to know enough about hacking to make it somewhat believable, but without getting bogged down in the details, so the show appeals to my nerdy side. But, I think the part about the show I like the most is that due to Elliot's mental problems, the viewers can't be sure what's real and what isn't. There's only been the one episode so far, but I'm definitely going to follow this show for a bit.

Killjoys and Dark Matter are both space shows. Killjoys is about a small group of space bounty hunters, on the surface, they work together, but have secrets that can cause some distrust. Dark Matter is about a group of mercenaries that lost their memories. They retained their skills, but not their identities or any memories of their past. Both shows are pretty solid (in the dumb and violent entertainment sort of way) and fit well airing along with the new season of Defiance.

Complications is the show I know the least about. I caught the second half of the second episode, but the little bit I saw made me want to go back and see what I missed. Basically an ER doctor somehow gets involved with a group of criminals and a kidnapping.

Anyway, any of the rest of you watching any of these?

I watched Killjoys. Figured it'd be a mix of Cowboy Bebop and Guardians of the Galaxy. It was neither.

I don't have cable anymore, but I did watch a thing on upcoming anime where some of them look cool. Naturally, I don't remember what any of them are called.

I've been watching both Killjoys and Dark Matter (as well as Defiance) and I'm kinda on the fence with them. Both have somewhat similar themes. Team of people, all with various secrets, which presumably will be revealed over time. These sorts of shows can either work out really really well, or just fall flat. It's too early to tell which is which, but it seems like Dark Matter probably has more legs (more characters and an honestly more interesting hook). With that sort of format, you need to time the release of your secret info to a build up of a sufficiently interesting world and overall plot to keep the audience interested. Just stringing them along with the secrets works for awhile, but wont last because you have to give the audience something. With only three main characters, and just two of them with secrets (as far as we know!), Killjoys might have a hard time balancing those out to build a decent show. I just think that Dark Matter can take a lot more time delving into the pasts of the different characters and thus build more world for the audience to bond to. And the whole "they don't even know who they are, or what their agenda is" adds a huge element to this. If done right, that is.

Speaking of "dragging along secret stuff far far too long", is anyone even still watching Under the Dome?

Under the Dome has dragged on. I watched the two hours season premiere. Could barely stay focused.

I like Dark Matter so far. A good selection of characters to chose from. We'll see where it goes.

I don't really care for Killjoys, but am giving it a chance. I never cared much for the "Hot Super Woman" thing. I don't think it's going to go anywhere interesting with this Dutch character. Secret group inside the Killjoys trained her from a kid to be some ultimate warrior. Plus she's hot. I'll continue watching, but am not expecting much.

Humans started up on AMC. Pilot seemed a pretty typical "Humans create humanoid robots to do bidding, robots develop free will".

Last Ship started back up. I tried to watch the season premiere, and gave up. I'm just going to drop that one.

Falling Skies final season started yesterday. Hope they wrap it up well. But I am hesitant. I suspect they'll bring the Star Child back and magic in an ending.

Olympus is really dragging on. They really did spend all their budget on the creatures. Zero extras, the scenes are empty. A dungeon scene just has murmurs in the background that are supposed to be the dozens of inmates while the king and prince sit trying to "hide" so the inmates don't realize who they are.

Penny Dreadful is pretty good so far.

Overall, lots of shows, nothing spectacular. The Strain starts up sometime late next month. I am hoping that saves the season.

Oh, and Wayward Pines. It's pretty good. M. Night Shamalamadingdong is involved with it, so the twists... I actually didn't see the twist coming the way it did. I was expecting a similar result, but different methods. I don't think it's the last twist though.

So, the second episode of Mr Robot aired the other night. Still very solid. Good righting, interesting characters, and strong acting. If they can keep this up, I think this might be new favorite show.

I'm pretty sure Olympus is over. Went out with a fizzle and a dud.

The nameless "Hero" turned out to be Adam. And the Oracle, Eve. And Zeus is revealed to be the one True God. The other gods try to get Hero to destroy Zeus, but instead in the end he partners with Zeus to kill off the other gods. The downfall of polytheism and the rise of monotheism.

I seem to remember Kratos being the cause of monotheism.
