I've been checking out a few new shows that started up this month, Mr Robot and Complications on USA, and Killjoys and Dark Matter on SciFi. So far Mr Robot is the frontrunner, but the rest are pretty solid too.
The main character in Mr Robot is a functional schizophrenic hacker by the name of Elliot. The show starts out with him narrating to what he considers to be an imaginary person. He knows he shouldn't be talking to an imaginary person, but he can't help it, he doesn't have anyone else to talk to. He works for cyber security firm during the day, which he hates, and hacks people in his spare time. During the first episode, he stops an attack on the servers of the evil corporation that he hates, and in so doing meets up with the group that initiated the attack. The writers seem to know enough about hacking to make it somewhat believable, but without getting bogged down in the details, so the show appeals to my nerdy side. But, I think the part about the show I like the most is that due to Elliot's mental problems, the viewers can't be sure what's real and what isn't. There's only been the one episode so far, but I'm definitely going to follow this show for a bit.
Killjoys and Dark Matter are both space shows. Killjoys is about a small group of space bounty hunters, on the surface, they work together, but have secrets that can cause some distrust. Dark Matter is about a group of mercenaries that lost their memories. They retained their skills, but not their identities or any memories of their past. Both shows are pretty solid (in the dumb and violent entertainment sort of way) and fit well airing along with the new season of Defiance.
Complications is the show I know the least about. I caught the second half of the second episode, but the little bit I saw made me want to go back and see what I missed. Basically an ER doctor somehow gets involved with a group of criminals and a kidnapping.
Anyway, any of the rest of you watching any of these?
