Well, in the last couple Teen Titan's DC films, Starfire and Dick were much older than the rest of the crew. (Also, Cyborg was nixed and replaced with the Scarab boy). They were more mentor/trainer roles to the actual "Teen" Titans.

I don't think Star and Dick being older would be much of an issue for the show.

I don't think it'll be an issue. I'm actually more interested now with the wide age difference and how they'll handle it over the course of the show's life and how it differs from the other animated movies, shows, and books. According to the Hashtag Show, rumor has it that apparently Beastboy and Cyborg won't be in this line up, and instead they'll use Hawk, Dove and Detective Amy Rohrbach.

Michael Cerveris has found his way on to next season's Gotham as Professor Pyg. Which ... should get really freaky. His main thing is to turn people into "Dollotrons", which are basically genderless, lobotomized people with doll masks permanently sewed to their face that obey his every command due to the use of mind-altering drugs.

So, Ready Player One. I just don't get the hype over this. A work buddy wouldn't shut up about the book to the point that he eventually brought in his copy and practically forced me to read it. It wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't very good. The writing was amateurish, the plot was painfully cliched and predictable, and most of the characters were shallow as f*ck. I suppose all the '80s nostalgia bits were fairly well researched and weren't terribly implemented, but that only carries so far. Honestly, the entire thing felt like '80s based fan fiction that got out of hand. The trailer for the movie version didn't do much for me either.

I just finished it (audiobook version with Wil Wheaton) and thought it was fun. But not terribly well written. I enjoyed it but probably won't read it a second time since I doubt the writing holds up once you know the plot. It reads like a Young Adult novel despite obviously being intended for an age 35-55 demo. I'll see the movie just to see how it gets realized on screen and what plot changes they make. I wouldn't judge the trailer too much -- it's an early hype trailer and not really meant to tell you about the movie.

Nerd Rage Alert moment from the book:In Zork, the first two treasures are found in the same place: you go around the old house, climb a tree and retrieve a golden egg from a nest up top. Then you open it to retrieve a tiny jeweled bird. These two treasures are part of the nineteen required treasures for the case. But Wade says that he went right into the house, investigates the kitchen (finds the Capt'n Crunch whistle) and then descends through the trap door. I was actually expecting him to say that he only found seventeen treasures and then remember the location of the first two (despite using a walk-through). But Shoto runs into his white house and collects the treasures while his brother holds back the Sixer forces; he very obviously didn't spend time climbing trees in the back yard. So no one actually could have collected all the treasures and the whole book is bullshit lies.

Maybe the best gift in a book about nerd stuff and Easter eggs is making an error so an astute reader and bitch about it and feel smug Smiley: grin

Well, it's the best DC movie in ages and one of the better superhero movies in the last 5+ years. But the final battle is long and weak (and most people agree on this) and it's largely supported by the first two acts. Glad to see Jenkins returning for it; maybe she'll learn how to put together a climatic battle scene.

I watched the latest DC animated film on Friday. Batman and Harley Quinn.

Very light hearted compared to many of the recent DC films. Looks like it was the 1990s Batman animated series type stuff. Had a really good scene in a Henchmen bar full of random characters showing up including Captain Clown, which made me remember I'm glad I was not afraid of clowns growing up. Cause nothing like a creepy killer clown robot in a kid's show to strengthen that fear. and a couple good songs.

I really enjoyed it. I think it was better than the more recent Teen Titans animated films. Melissa Rauch did a pretty good job.

Edit:
Song Spoilers

I actually liked the "Don't Pull Your Love" more than Harley's song, but both were fun.

I agree, and it even reached like the 5th highest grossing cape movies of all time, but some of the articles I've read treat it like it's the second coming of sliced bread. It's no Troll 2.

Courtney Ford joins Legends of Tomorrow as Damien Darhk's daughter, which at first my reaction was that she's a bit old to replace and play a ten year old, but then I remember LoT's time travel premise.
David Koepp, about the next Indiana Jones movie wrote:
Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say. And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film.
Thank the heavens. Nothing hurt the brand more than Mutt, and I'm including Short Round in that list.

Silver Sable's Wild Pack might appear in Gina Prince-Bythewood's Silver & Black. According to rumors the team will consist of Powell, Klein, Chen, Morty, and Arnold. Morty is going to be male, which means that the movie is probably going to be drawing from the Ultimate universe version of the team.

Oh, and Marvel and Star Wars movies will be ganked off Netflix in the near future, as Disney is joining in on the whole streaming service model. Won't be long before there are as many of these services as there are channels on regular television packages.

And "Buccaneerbasin". Smiley: um

Looks like some of the rumors at least were true, as Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly have been cast as Hawk & Dove on Titans. They're kind of like Batman and Robin, except their relationship with each other is less obvious.

Executive producer Brad Winderbaum revealed in an interview that in Thor: Ragnarok Hela will be borrowing from a relatively new character for her skillset. Specifically, Gorr the God Butcher. Which is kind of awesome, because frankly that was the last time a Thor book was really good to read.
Brad Winderbaum wrote:
A lot of the design of Hela is a combination of the early Jack Kirby stuff but also ... especially his power set, the villain Gorr, who has a very specific power set of being able to manifest an infinite number of weapons. We are doing a version of that, not exactly, but a version of that for Hela in our movie because in the books Hela can kind of touch people and they die and sometimes she can do all sorts of different things and we really tried to specify and narrow it into very specific skill sets.

Watched IT today. It was a good movie. After Dark Tower's failure, it was refreshing to see an adaptation done well. Now I kind of wish to have seen what the group behind IT would have done with Dark Tower's material.

IT didn't follow the books exactly, but enough was there, and the way they did it, made it work. I didn't go in expecting a lot, but then in the first scene they rip the Georgie's arm off and let him bleed all over. I wasn't expecting them to show as much detail as they did on these child deaths. My only real complaint was Beverly's dad. They just straight up went for the molestation route. Probably just to be "edgy". The same result could have been had with the physical abuse. I'm glad that they had Pennywise take many forms. Including the Leper, and even had the Mummy near the end there when he was attacking Ben. And some new ones like the abstract painting of a woman with a flute. Not sure if that's a real painting or not, but I definitely wouldn't keep it anywhere in my house. I think the movie captured the kids pretty well. And their characters interacted pretty much exactly how you'd expect a group of early teenage boys (and one girl) to interact. Even a "Tighty-Whitey" scene at a quarry that spent a surprising amount of focus on the 15 year old girl's underwear and breasts (And, I think she's actually a 15 year old actress, not some tiny adult female). I mean, it fit well with the scene. But it was just surprising how much the camera zoomed in on her anatomy.

Movie is going to be two parts. So they leave it open at the end for the second movie. Complete with a "Chapter One" appearing over the IT title at the end before the credits.

There is a very tiny after credits "scene" similar to Dark Tower. Pennywise begins to laugh.. You can go ahead and skip it, just like you could skip the Dark Tower after credit "scene". But, while you should skip "Dark Tower" all together... I think IT is worth while if you like Stephen King (and probably even if you don't). As long as you aren't afraid of clowns.

Edit:
Oh, and yes, Bill Skarsgård did a good job as Pennywise. I'd say better that Tim Curry, but that may just be that the character is better in the movie than in the TV series, so it leans in favor of Skarsgård.

Curious what Bobbi has been up to after her cancelled SHIELD spinoff?

Wonder no more!

If you are familiar with Seth MacFarlane, you can pretty much guess how this show is. One episode in, and I can't say I have any real opinion yet. It had its moments, but I was expecting a lot more of a Parody/Comedy angle.

Heh. Once Fox cancels The Orville she can join Nick Blood, whose real name is cooler than his character's, back on Agents of SHIELD since Lance Hunter is returning next season. Still a little disappointed their spinoff "Most Wanted" never made it off the ground.

Speaking of shows doomed at inception, ABC ordered to a put-pilot commitment for a reboot of The Greatest American Hero with an "Indian-American woman named Meera from Cleveland whose talents include tequila drinking, karaoke and not much else." As you may or may not remember, the premise is that aliens leave someone a suit that turns them into a superhero, but the goofy guy loses the instruction manual and hijinks his way through his escapades. Also the theme song was amazing.

To the surprise of absolutely no one Patty Jenkins has officially signed on for Wonder Woman 2. Apparently she made $1mil for the first movie, and now for the second she's reportedly going to be making somewhere in the $9mil range.

Nicole Kidman recently revealed that she "got to lie on a rock with my hair strewn and blood and (she) kind of liked it," which means her character in Aquaman will either get severely hurt, is just relaxing after killing a bunch of things, or fakes her own death (which is in line with her comic counterpart)

Haven't seen The Orville yet but the people I've heard from said it was an uneven mixture of parody/humor and playing it as straight space opera sci-fi. So whichever angle you were hoping for, you probably found it kind of disappointing. Maybe it'll get better balance further into the season.

Wait, Orville was last night? Talk about setting yourself up for failure competing with the season premiere of Fear the Walking Dead.

Preacher: Charon was ... weird. I think they were only really expecting one season and being shut down so they had no idea what to do with the second season and beyond. The whole "Hitler Redemption" Arc seems like it was just thrown in in an attempt to be shocking and it just ... wasn't. Pip Torrins as Herr Starr was good, if a bit neutered. The real MVP of the show. Little surprised they offed Tulip, but sure money is they bring her back with Bayou-Voo-Doo. Also thought Cassidy killing Dennis was another hallucination. Watching Chris Hardwick trying so hard to spin this season positively is heart breaking.

Fox's The Gifted has cast Garret Dillahunt in the role of Ahab, a cyborg mutant hunter and one time Apocalypse Horseman. He'll reportedly have a key recurring role, and is a "mutant researcher contracted by the Sentinel Services. Professorial, intense and intimidating, Dr. Campbell has a morally dubious mission yet to be revealed." Still not absolutely certain about the show, since it's supposedly canon to the main and highly convoluted storyline, but I've always found Dillahunt to be a phenomenal actor.

Daniel Dae Kim is in talks to take over Ed Skein's abandoned Major Ben Daimio character in the Hellboy reboot. Decent actor and such, but a part of me is amused that the white guy left because he felt he wasn't racially correct for the role so now it's a Korean-American guy playing a Japanese-American character. Like, shouldn't there be outrage over that and is Daniel going to step down/away as well?

I think it came on before Fear. I watched both. Orville was 8pm, and Fear was 9pm to 11pm. It did compete with Chris Hardwick's Walking Dead season 8 preview talk show. But my box glitched and failed to record that, I figure I didn't miss anything though as those preview shows never really are all that interesting.

This past season of Fear has been more interesting. None of my Walking Dead-Fan Coworkers like it though. They stopped watching part way thru season 1. I keep watching. Bonus that the daughter is hot. Still funny that she's all dolled up in the Apocalypse. Smear a little dirt on her makeup'd face, doesn't hide the fact that she's well groomed throughout it all. Maggie on the Walking Dead (That show's hottie) seems to have recently abandoned the well groomed aspect and moved more to the unkempt (relatively speaking, that is).

The Orville; didn't love it or hate. I'll give it a few more weeks. Dark Matter and Killjoys just wrapped up their seasons, so it's not like there is any other Scifi space stuff to watch at the moment. STD still looks like it's going to be terrible.

Well, to segue from that it's been officially confirmed that JJ Abrams is replacing Colin Trevorrow on Star Wars: Episode IX. Also it's being pushed back from May 2019 to December, presumably to give Abrams more time to work on the project.

Also new short teaser for The Punisher.

Wonder Woman 2 adds Dave Callaham to write for the sequel. His IMDB shows he's kind of like the guy who only carries a group's project to the meeting and puts his name on it. Doom, Godzilla, and Expendables were all ... extremely light on actual script.

Next movie for Jennifer Lawrence is Black Widow Red Sparrow, about an injured Russian ballerina who becomes a spy trained to use everything from martial arts to sex to accomplish her mission. Not really something I'd normally post, but it's similarity to Black Widow makes it amusing. Personally, I'm waiting on all the inevitable denial.

Fixed. They definitely chose a preview image for that trailer to get people's attention.

Been slow lately. According to my DVR, South Park had a new episode last night. But I worked 5am to 7pm yesterday, and got in to work at 4am today, and who knows how late I'll stay yet, so I haven't watched any TV other than a recorded episode of Harvey Birdman. Seben and Seben Employee Orientation video. Very enjoyable watching these old shows re-run on Adult Swim. Why can't adult swim start airing more of this stuff and less of Tim and Eric Live-Show-For-'High"-People-Cause-It's-Funny.

Red Sparrow seems to be going for more of a thriller angle than action like the Marvel flicks or, say, Atomic Blonde (to pick another trained female spy-assassin sex/violence flick).

Apparently the new episode of South Park freaked out peoples' Alexas, which is neat. And Red Sparrow apparently got some pretty good reviews from the CIA, which praised it's depiction of the mundanity of spycraft.

The episode was pretty funny. Cartman actually took a bunch of Siri, Google, and Alexa things and had them start saying things that would trigger each other.

Adult Swim has been airing their old shows again these past weeks. And this week had a good episode of Harvey Birdman. (Not the Apache Chief episode, but close).
