Huh. I was always under the impression his wife's name was Sarah and always associated Barbara as his daughter, which kind of icked me out in this instance. I can live with that explanation. Learned something useless new.

Alfred was less obnoxious in the most recent episode. The rest of it was mostly forgettable except for the ex lez-lovers & Cobblepot. Still mostly enjoying the show.

... Any particular reason the seasoned veteran lieutenant cop's first reaction to being slowly lifted into the air by a weather balloon was to shriek in horror and not reach for the clearly visible service revolver from his shoulder holster? Also cops don't know how balloons work? They think balloons just stay up in the air forever? No wonder why crime is such an issue in Gotham. It was kind of funny where the first body landed ...

Yeah, that bugged when I saw it, and then bugged me again even more when Gordon does more or less the same thing. He decides to save the balloon man, but instead of just shooting the balloon immediately, he grabs the man's legs, thus sending both of them flying. Only then does it occur to him to shoot the balloon. It was obviously contrived to force Bullock to be the one to save the balloon man as the only means to save his partner. Not super thrilled with that sort of hamfisted character dilemma.

I can overlook that though. It's the sort of thing that writers overuse all the time (as if that's not redundant enough).

So are the timelines of all the characters messed up in this show? Was Batman that much younger than these people? I mean, ok, he's a young teen, so not _that_ much younger, but the others are in their late 20s, early 30s, plus.

Alternate reality, I guess. Show is all over the place.

Scarecrow incoming.

I think at this point I watch it just to see Who and How they'll introduce. Bruce Wayne's a whiny little *****. The little girls (Ivy, Selena) hanging around him are annoying. Alfred's worthless.

Pretty much anything dealing directly with Batman has sucked.

"You wanna work with a murderer?" Really? That's the line Gordon uses as leverage on Bullock? Bullock, who the first few episodes was happily working with Gordon who he thought was a murderer? At least they've given Gordon a personality.

Nygma and Penguin are the show's MVPs. We could do without everything Bruce related.

I kinda saw that as intentional (well, maybe). It represents growth of Bullock's character from a guy who didn't care if he worked with a dirty murdering cop, to someone who kinda does now. I saw it as a choice being presented with the implication that he's really asking if he wants to continue working in that sort of environment or make the hard choice to change things.

I also thought he directed that question at the entire assemblage of cops in the room, not just Bullock. And for much the same reason. He's basically asking the cops if they really want to just continue accepting an environment full of dirty cops, or if they want the badge to actually mean something. Given where we all know Gordon ends up, this is and likely will continue to be a theme in the show.

Or maybe I was reading too much into it.

I could see the first point, it was pretty open to interpretation, but I think we're talking two different scenes. I'm pretty sure you're talking about the scene near the end just before the dirty cop was arrested, and I'm talking about near the beginning just after the Token Witness suicided himself, and Gordon pulled Bullock off to another room and suggested the killer might be a cop and Bullock lost his **** over it.

Oh yeah. You're correct. I couldn't remember which parts happened when. I was thinking of that scene near the end. Either way, it's the same basic theme.

Vaguely relevant, but looks like Turner Network Television is jumping on the superhero bandwagon and producing a Titans show of it's own, with Bruce Wayne's favorite Dick and Token Female Hero.

So it's Nightwing-Robin, and wheel-chair Barbara? Not familiar enough with Hawk and Dove.

Raven and Starfire thrown in?

My only exposure to these characters is through animated shows. Mostly Teen Titans, and the Teen Titans Go! show. I can't say I know what to expect. Other than probably disappointment.

Edit:
Oh, and on topic... Penguin's either really good at weaseling out of these situations, or the people he's pissing off are just really dumb.

They're supposed to be the embodiments of War and Peace. Hawk has super? strength and Dove is acrobatic.

Ya, don't know anything about em. Or Nightwing. I thought it was an alter ego for Robin, but I guess not?

Wasn't Barbara in a wheelchair in one of the latest iterations of the Batman animated shows?

Nightwing is the persona Dick adopted after leaving Batman and not wanting to continue looking like Robin, and continued to let Bruce kidnap orphans to dress in brightly colored outfits to act as decoys for him.

She might have been in a wheelchair in one of the cartoons, I don't really remember much besides the 90s Animated Series and Beyond, neither of which had her battling the forces of stairs.

In the cartoons she was always Batgirl (or Commissioner Gordon in Batman Beyond), and only appeared as Oracle in the "Birds of Prey" series and the first two Arkham games.

The Graysons should be showing up tonight. I'm pretty sure at this point Robin shouldn't even be a twinkle in his parents' eyes.

Also some assorted quickie news.

You know how well they are with the timelines and ages though. Robin could be the same age as Batman in this one. They are also introducing Joker (or if you believe the writers, someone who may or may not be the Joker). And I'm pretty sure he doesn't fit into the timeline right at this moment with Bruce being a little emo kid.

Bruce's ambiguous possible pedophilia is intact for now. Really, should have left him at the bottom of the hill he fell down. Not-Joker had a pretty good laugh going for him. Beyond that, meh. Know anything about snakes? I don't think snakes would act like a bloodhound for what amounts to no reason at all.

Well, apparently this came back. Now Bruce is an accessory to murder. Also, that bag was like two inches from the window. What the hell took the guy so long to reach it? It's Gotham detectives don't understand balloons all over again.

The on off scheduling of this series sucks. Not sure why they show one episode wait two weeks show another. Rinse repeat.

To be fair, the guy was strung out on heroin (I'm assuming?). Kinda have to assume that a guy with his normal physical capabilities wouldn't have been intimidated by a couple of young teens if he wasn't in a severely diminished capacity. So the fact that he was fumbling and off balance trying to grab the bag wasn't so shocking. I also saw this as a bit more character development for the man Bruce will become, and in that context the character's reaction was about right IMO. Remember, he'd already resigned himself to the fact that Alfred was intending to kill him. He just couldn't bring himself to do it for Alfred, hesitated, Selina realized this, and took action for him.

At some point in the future, he may not hesitate.

Oh no, I get it. I just can't watch the scene without screaming at him that the bag would be within his reach even if he were a two foot tall double amputee midget.
