New season starts January 3rd. Most importantly, IMO, Season 2 of Maoyuu. And a new season of Minami-ke. Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru sounds pretty interesting to me.

But mostly it's a season of sequels and such. Anything strike anyone else's interests?

Edit: So I read the wrong one, what with my sleepiness. Here's the right one.

Isn't that last year's list?

This season nothing really looks that interesting except maybe Space Dandy.

This is what you want to link: http://anichart.net/winter

Anyway, I'm mostly looking forward to the 2nd season of Chuunibyou and the Sailor Moon remake, and continuations of KLK and Golden Time.

Crap. I think you're right. That's what I get for posting with 5 hours of sleep last night. Editing the OP.

After reading the quick descriptions, not a one of those gives me enough info for me to get excited about. I'll look into them more after I've slept.

Yep, those are the two getting added to our rotation as well.

Four anime to keep up with again. Gah! I'm reverting back to my anime-binging, hair-dying weabu self from undergrad a decade ago. Smiley: frown

The first episode of Log Horizon was alright, but I dunno if I'd really want to watch more?

I dunno, them starting at level cap is a big turnoff for me, particularly with the concept being a MMO-based anime. I would have much preferred the route SAO took, and had everyone start at level 1. I can see why they'd want level 90, for the past relationships and such, but I don't see why the expansion couldn't have come with a hard reset of their levels, equipment, etc. along with the content.

I dunno, seeing a wizard dude who already knows all his spells clear content doesn't sound fun...

Trust me, the later episodes will meet your standards and even explain why they're at level 90. It's definitely better than SAO's second season, and the pacing is better than the first's.

I just watched ep 1 and 2.
It might go places. 1st episode really didn't make any sense, but you learn what Space Dandy does (searches out alien species that have not been identified, for money).

2nd was about Ramen.

There is a "bad" group, guy looks like a Pimp (in space!) after Dandy but why is unknown still.

Cartoon Boobs.

I laughed and enjoyed both episodes, but then I am a fan of FLCL and weird animes.

I would disagree. I think it would be fairly accurate to describe Space Dandy as Redline's character design with Excel Saga's jokes (space and time has even been used as deus ex machina again).

The art and animation is quite good, but I think the humor is a little too low brow.

Yeah. Admittedly it's only been two episodes, but Space Dandy seems a lot more like Excel Saga than FLCL so far.

Watched ep 1 of Chuu2 Ren, looking like it might be ok even though I'm kinda sad they made a sequel. We'll have to see. The first ep did at least do a good job of reminding me why I liked the first season.

It makes sense from a marketing perspective. viewing solely as a person consuming a media product though, I found the first episode hilarious because I guess it distilled for me frustrations I have with many other stories. Certain events needed to happen, and due to lack of time they couldn't even *pretend* for them to occur organically. Events just happen because the plot demands it. I also find the proportion of time devoted to the OP and ED to be amusing.

Yeah, that needs to be abridged, you are already on a clock with these micro episodes. A minute intro and outro really chop down your ~5m short work-space.

Btw, have you been busy lately?

Spring 2014 anime have already been announced.

Not really sure at this point what I'm interested in. Fairy Tail's long awaited revival is here, though I never watched the anime I did read the manga up to a point (I actually think about where the anime is going to be starting back up). Gokukoku no Brynhildr could be interesting. With a tagline like "I can be the greatest man in the world, because I am a virgin!!", Fuun Ishin Dai Shogun might be hilarious. New season of Jojo for those who care. Kamigami no Asobi ~Ludere deorum~ is a reverse harem with Greek gods. No Game No Life sounds just dumb enough to maybe be good. 2nd season of Date a Live will be my guilty pleasure show no doubt, as I watched the first season. Mildly interested in Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin. The only one I'm really excited for is 2nd season of Mushishi!

Why is it that every mecha anime recently has had a high schooler piloting it? I wasn't interested in that concept in the first place. The next 86 times it was used just made it worse.

I could accept it in Code Geass, since it wasn't just a case of "random high school kid finds mech." But for the most part it's just awful...

I don't remember Gundam pilots being school students? It's possible I'm thinking the characters were older than they actually were, but I don't remember high school life being part of the series.

Then again, it's been so long since I saw the early series..es... that I could just be remembering only the parts I cared about.

I know Gundam 00 had some of the high school stuff. I also didn't watch all that much of it.

Oh yeah, that.

It's one thing if they're using a military academy plot line, and the daily life of the cadets is an aspect. Or like with Evangelion, where they're just kids being used as tools by adults, and that is explored.

But the whole "I was walking home one day when I fell into a **** and now I'm a mecha pilot who saves the world" thing just kills me.

I mean, in general the "high school kid saves the world" trope is overdone, but it's easier to swallow when the plot line isn't them randomly coming to possess a giant robot. Not great, but better. Even then, though, the slice of life stuff is taxing. If they're going to do it, I'd prefer it was more like Bleach. You get the part where the secrets strain relationships, but I don't have to endure an episode where they're all going out to Karaoke, and almost all of the series takes place completely independently from school.

Sidonia no Kishi might be up your ally idiggory. it's mecha that doesn't follow that trope least with it being a high schooler blind lucks into a mech and saves the day the main charater is just high school age iirc. I lost interest in the manga but I'm going to give it shot. Others I might try is Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei but there was parts of the plot that never got explained fully in the manga and there is a second title that continues the story but only 2 chapters of that is out so it will most likely end where the first did. Black bullet is another that the manga was interesting but I haven't been keeping up with it.

I tried watching it, but by the midpoint of the first episode, I was forcing myself to finish it. I had a hard time focusing with the art style, and the humor isn't really my style. Then came some pretty insane fanservice.

Not saying it's bad, just not for me. Smiley: lol

Has anyone been watching Valgrave. I watched the first episode, but it looked to be one of those slice of life mecha shows. But the kotaku review of season 2 says it's solid...

IS IT a slice of life mecha? If not, I might give it a shot.

I'm partway through a bunch of anime started at some point in the past year. Smiley: lol

You're either a week late, or your levels are different than mine.

A week late. Smiley: laugh Saw last week's episode on Thursday.

The art and animation is quite good, but I think the humor is a little too low brow.

I only watched the first 2 episodes, but I agree with this. For a show with so much adult content, the jokes are at the level of a 14-year-old. It reminds me a little bit of Superjail, actually. Except that Superjail's weirdness and extreme violence made better low-brow eye candy, in my opinion.

Tonari no Seki-kun is freaking hilarious and a must watch. Robot Girls Z is reasonably entertaining, and reminds me of Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan.

Kill la Kill just went Gurren Lagann levels if awesome and **** imo. It's right up there in terms of enjoyment for me. さすがTrigger, you have saved anime from moeblobs and seriousness.
