Ya, I'm going to make a thread on every show I watch. Sue me. (Someone's gotta balance the Anime and Ponies in here)

I really liked where the pilot went on this one. It stars up cliche, with the retired agent being called back into duty, and I really thought I was going to be bored. But then right around the last 15 minutes or so it really got interesting. I can't say I care much for Kevin Bacon (just something about him, in general, not specific to this series), but I think James Purefoy plays a decent psycho.

Incidentally just watched the trailer before coming here and seeing this thread. I must say it looked quite promising. The only reservation I have about it is the network being FOX. :-/

Edit: speeling

For a 9:00 slot on a major network, it was grittier than you'd probably think. I don't know if you just dislike FOX or if you mentioned it because it's not a cable network and therefore would have more restrictions on what they can show, but I thought it was well done.

We'll see how it goes. I wonder if they're planning multiple seasons or if it's supposed to me more of a mini-series. I can see them following this storyline for the 14 episodes or whatever, but it will get tired if it's the same antagonist over multiple seasons ,I think. I guess I could see a multiple-season arc if say, one of the followers becomes more powerful than Carroll. If there ends up being some in-fighting between them, where he ends up as kind of an antihero in trying to hunt the rogue killer down or whatever, I could see that carrying the show a bit, with a return to the main conflict after that is resolved.

It's because they killed Firefly. Them not being a cable network is not the problem. The way they treated an incredibly great show in the past is.

I'm also not sure how long they can maintain the current plot line, or how they could reasonably expand it to make it last multiple seasons. It's a bit contrived like how Carrol allows himself to be captured, presumably purely so they can have scenes of him taunting Hardy about what his followers are doing but it definitely looks interesting (and different at least!). We'll see how it shakes out in terms of multiple seasons.

Oh. And maybe this is just my predictable plot twist meter going off, but anyone else just assume that the boy is really Hardy's kid?. I mean, they practically beat you over the head with the possibility. Too obvious?

That was pretty much my first thought the moment Carrol says Hardy had sex with his wife.

I agree that this show as is does not seem like a multi-season candidate. But that's not exactly a bad thing. If they can keep it the story interesting and give it a proper ending it will be better than milking it out and then having to quickly wrap it up as people lose interest and the ratings drop.

I wonder which of the FBI agents are in on it. I mean I'd be fairly surprised if they didn't use that trope.

I dunno man, that would be almost too obvious, with the way they've been portraying it.

Ya, that wasn't a serious answer.

If anyone it will be the young FBI agent who is a fan of Hardy. That's been played out before.

This was my assumption as well. The other character is too obvious and they've hinted at it (with Hardy giving her a couple strange looks). The casual mention of him being a fan early on, but not overdone makes it a better possibility. Also interesting is that in this episode, he's the one who fails to stop the agent from bleeding to death. Did he really try? Or did he like the blood?

If I'm remembering right, he also left the stake out to go find Hardy (who admittedly had already left the stakeout, and of course the young agent was charged to keep an eye on Hardy by the lady in charge) rather than stay and provide backup for the officer inside. I mean, there were gunshots outside the house which the officer inside was investigating, that agent should have been investigating and making sure the officer inside was safe. Instead of hunting down Hardy.

Honestly, that whole bit bugged me. Even with the woman inside helping to take out the agent guarding her, how the hell does the other guy just waltz inside the house with no one spotting him despite two agents outside? And how is it the shots are fired outside, but the two guys outside didn't seem to be reacting to that at all. And why were the shots fired? The last thing I'd do if I were trying to sneak into a house guarded by three FBI agents would be to fire shots outside first and alert them to my presence. Again, unless the young agent was in on it and he fired the shots as a distraction? I suppose that could work.

It does seem as though there's a whole hell of a lot of plot armor going on with regards to what should be low probability choices by some of the characters.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. The young agent fired the shots after Hardy left to get the agent inside distracted and give the woman a chance to attack. Then left the scene to find Hardy to not give Hardy a reason to suspect. And since Hardy knows how the young agent feels about him and that he was sent there to watch Hardy, Hardy would not really think it odd that the agent followed Hardy out there and missed any potential attack on the agent inside.

The only question I can think of with that explanation is why Hardy didn't hear the shots. But the shots did sound muffled from the House, maybe they were partially silenced or farther away? The boyfriend (husband?) of the woman fired the shots as a cue to start the plan. Distract the FBI agent inside, cue the young agent outside to leave and find Hardy to give him an alibi, and tell the woman to attack.

Either way, the more I think about the whole end of the episode the more I figure the young agent has to be in on it

Carrol clearly doesn't want Hardy to die, so that is a definite possibility. Too obvious though? Hard to say.

The whole first half of the episode the young FBI agent was lost in though looking at the picture of the FBI agent who Maggie killed, we are to assume out of guilt that he couldn't save him. But I'm thinking it was out of some sick lust of the death like Carrol's other followers. And yes, killing Maggie to save Hardy would be perfectly within Carrol's allowed actions.

The weird bisexual murderous threeway going on between the 'gay' couple and the short haired gal is a bit strange. I really wasn't expecting them to embrace the 'chicken' at the end.
