For those who can't see youtube vids because you're at work or something, it's a trailer for the next movie in the Star Trek reboot. And it really sounds like it could be narrated by Khan.

I read somewhere it wasn't Khan. But can't remember where and how reliable this source was. Either way I'm looking forward to it. The first movie had some flaws but overall I didn't mind them too much.

I never watched much of the original series. The only thing I know about the negative energy barrier is that I remember reading something about the Q using it to keep something horrifying out of the galaxy.

Edit: That seems to have been a reference to the Q-Continuum novels. So no idea if it's canon.

If you want a little prequel, the IDW comic series, out now, is all about the Gary Mitchel of the J.J. Abrams' Trek Universe.

It's funny you should mention Khaaaaaaan, due to the extra footage at the end of the japanese trailer (warning, possible spoilers):

(Not imbedding because the footage could be considered a major spoiler)

I really hope that they don't try to recreate that scene. There is no way it will hold up to the original.

Wait, what?

Spock dies? I'm not much of a Trekkie, but I'm assuming some kind of time travel thing is happening for Spock to be alive? Or is that Spock's canon demise? I'm just curious, because the Spock that arrives from the future in JJ's Star Trek was the Spock from the original timeline, and he was alive long after Kirk died.

Oh, and it's totally a remake of that scene in the Japanese trailer. Intriguing, now that I know the spoiler.

I only remember bits and pieces from watching them as a kid with my dad, but (from memory, not google) Spock dies, his remains are sent to a planet that was Terraformed. The Terraforming process creates a duplicate copy of Spock, accelerated growth, and Kirk has Spock's entire life stored inside of him because of the Mind Meld thing, and that goes back into the Spock v2.0 Or something like that.

Actually the effects of the Genesis device completely reverse the death/age of Spock's body and he reverts back into a child. However since the effects are temporary he starts to rapidly age again, and Kristie Alley has sex with him when he hits puberty. Finally the aging stops back at his original age and he helps Kirk beat the Klingons.

Ok, I just remember seeing Kid Spock on the planet after the Terraforming thing. I thought there was something with Spock's memories being in Kirk?

Edit: I talked to my dad during my morning commute, and he said it was McCoy, not Kirk, who had his memories.

I'm fairly certain both hands seen in the Japanese trailer were male. One hand was doing the Vulcan greeting and the other, which was definitely male, looked like it belonged to Kirk, judging by the shirt sleeve.

Yeah, just before Spock jumped into the Warp Core chamber in WoK he nerve pinched McCoy, then uploaded a backup of his mind by using a mind meld.

Probably, I didn't look at it that much. Though it also doesn't look radiation cooked.

We're spoiler-tagging what happened in the Japanese trailer because of what happened in Wrath of Khan. Smiley: tongue Spock and Kirk do the hand-on-glass thing in Wrath of Khan, before Spock dies. Japanese trailer showed Spock and Kirk, presumably, doing the same thing in Star Trek Into Darkness.

Also, Dumbledore dies.
