I suppose a bit of variation on the comic is necessary, I don't know who read the first Avenger stories, but that's the most sexist comic I've ever read. That and just not very good, they also fight amongst themselves a heck of a lot more than any enemy they encounter.

Still, Wasp and Antman are major Avengers, or used to be, haven't read the series in quite some time.

X-Men I and II were not bad, definitely the second one had a decent enough story to it. The third is pretty much an abomination. I'm surprised anyone dared to make another one.

On the other hand, after Generation X the movie, I'm surprised anyone dared make another superheroe movie. Or heck, after the David Hasselhoff SHIELD disaster even. (although I do admit, I enjoyed that one more than the Gen X movie)

How do you figure?
It's a comic book and it would be on the tame end of the spectrum as far as crazy storylines are concerned.

I, like 99.95% of the movie going audience do not know who Antman is nor care if he's included in the movie. While they'll give lip service to those geeks who do care, the studio realizes that "Antman" isn't going to be what makes it a bajillion dollar box office movie and they have enough big paycheck names on the payroll that they don't need another for some dork named "Antman".

Antman's getting his own movie, by Edgar Wright (Sean of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim).

Like some others, I had heard of Antman, but didn't know much about him. However, I have no idea what those two sentences have to do with one another. This super hero confuses me already.

You know what I like about Hank Pym? He's a mad scientist trying to be a hero.

He wasn't supposed to be a hero in the first place, just a scientist from a Twilight Zone styled story about shrinking himself and having to fight ants. Then we found out that he had basically gone "You narrow-minded fools! We're scientists, nothing should be impossible to us!" and got laughed out of the scientific community, probably muttering something like "I'll show them ... I'LL SHOW THEM ALL!"

And then things went all wrong. He met his first wife who pulled him out of his lab, away from a future that almost certainly held giant ants and death rays, and started showing him the beautiful things of the world. Made him fall in love. Then she was murdered, but not before inspiring him to be a better person.

So what you're left with is this insane man that doesn't think things through; Who tries to be good but keeps messing it up; Who unleashes horrors when trying to do something right; Who can never seem to match up to other heroes (Kind of like how many villains can never match up to the heroes ...); Who desperately wants to be a superhero and redeem himself, but keeps Doing it Wrong. A sad, brilliant, hopeful genius who can't seem to get it right because his brain is cracked.

Like I said, it's like he was all set to become a mad scientist villain when his first wife knocked him clear off that life track, and he's been struggling to escape his destiny ever since. It's like the soul of a hero was given a villain's body, life, mind, skill set, etc. Or like a villainous mad scientist's madness manifested not as an obsession with hats, eggs, giant mechanical spiders, or any of the usual things, but rather manifested as an obsession with being a good person.

That's how I see it, anyway.

Wasn't Pym the idiot that built Ultron, the nuclear powered android with the adamantium body?

He also slapped around his wife, The Wasp, a bit.

Yeah. It's like he just skipped out of the "what could go wrong?" class in mad scientist school.

Even for purists and long time Avenger's readers "back in the day", very few ever thought that Pym was the "leader" of the Avengers. He was the guy who came up with the idea of forming a team (probably because he knew he was pretty wimpy by himself), but he didn't lead the team (and his inability to be an effective leader was one of the major plot lines early on IIRC). Most people would peg Cap or Iron man as the leader, with Pym being the guy who mostly built stuff that caused problems for everyone.

I think the older Superman Movies where ok for their time but they are very dated now. They got kinda goofy needless to say.

I'm going to assume you were responding to a post that has since been removed, because otherwise that's a completely pointless thing to necrobump a thread with.

And besides, the Avengers are Marvel. Superman is DC.

There was a discussion about the superman movies in another thread i think (it might have been in this one, but I'm not bothering to look). He probably just posted it in the wrong thread.
