I don't think they'll solve it that cleanly. Nick or not, the writers of Avatar aren't necessarily known for cheery endings. You'd think they were, but just look at that city... That's a pretty ****** ending for the first series, all things considered, no? It could have been worse, but it's definitely far from "and they all lived happily ever after."

I honestly think Amon's real identity and backstory. Honestly, I don't buy the one he's trying to sell. It's either been greatly simplified, or totally fabricated. He's trying to win public approval, after all, and what would do that better than a sob story that vilifies his enemies? Personally, I'm thinking he's probably a non-bender son of a well-known bender, and grew to resent the fact that his sibling(s) could bend while he could not. Or perhaps something a bit darker, where his family shunned him or even excommunicated him because he couldn't bend.

I don't think she'll give everyone bending. Just doesn't seem to be the answer. I also don't think Amon's "energy bending" is truly energy bending, or a gift from the spirits as he claims. I think the whole 'thumb to the forehead' motion is just for show, and the real 'magic' happens with his hand on a pressure point at the base of the neck. I think he's just blocking their Chi with a more permanent pressure point.

Also, Zuko is apparently still alive. The little "adventures" flash game says Zuko is 87, and he gave his position to his daughter, now just acts as ambassador. With Aang gone, he and Katara can get it on, old person style. Bow-chicka-wow-wow.

I really don't think they will. The shows have been about winning cooperation and fostering community between different types of people from different cultures. It's ultimately a children's show--the moral of the story is a HUGE part of what they are trying to teach.

The spirit-bending theory completely flies in the face of that. It doesn't teach cooperation or acceptance, it teaches forced assimilation and the idea that one type of person is intrinsically better than another.

The last show was about a group of kids from completely different cultures/walks of life* working together, and befriending/learning about others, to defeat a power that was trying to force ITS way on everyone. Think about how far out of their way they went to make Sokka/Tsuki useful in the last episode. That's exactly what the spirit-bending ending would go against in this case.

*Different classes growing up, different nations, different values, different motivations. Benders and non-benders.

The ending, however/whatever it is, is going to go to great lengths to celebrate the differences between people. It has to.

So yeah, I'd actually be seriously disappointed in the writers if they did that.

The way I hope they end the series is that Korra takes away all bending except for her own; then either disappears into the wild ala Yoda, or turns the entire planet against her to unify them ala Watchmen.

I doubt either of those.

Amon's influence grows, Korra gathers supporters of her own. Amon and Korra confront each other, and Amon's lies are exposed. Amon's followers see his lies (which will likely end up being very against what he was gathering supporters for) and (most) everyone realizes he was a bad guy and wrong. They abandon their hate for benders in favor of the goodness and truth that Korra, as the Avatar, stands for and has shown them.

Has anyone read the comic (I think there is going to be three of them?) about the time between Avatar and Legend of Korra dealing with Zuko and Aang and Fire Nation Colonies in the Earth Kingdom? I think I'm gonna have to read them.

Yea, but I think as a kid it was more hyperactivity; or at least that's how it felt.

I think Korra will eventually have her bending sealed, and have to work at getting it back, along with learning the spiritual aspect to it and Avatar Super Saiyan Mode. Also, Amon is Aang.

Not too bad of a guess, though I would disagree--with the caveat of not being able to offer up anyone better. Koh makes some sense because of the mask, and in his speech he did include suspicious references to spirits. However It seems very unlikely for the series to have a wholly supernatural enemy as the primary antagonist. The mask narratively necessitates a reveal, which means it'll be a reference to some we know. Initially I though this might be a character with aconnection ot the previous series (though not directly from the previous series), however as of the most recent episode Tarrlok seems a suspicious character. Whatever the case, his past sympathetic history is entirely bullshiz for certain.

It would be rude of me to make an entirely spoilered post.

Yeah, it's more a joke theory than a real one. Though I'd really like it to be true.

Looks even less likelly after ep 4, though. Amon doesn't seem interested in Korra except as a means to his revolution. Last time we saw Koh he was very obviously not over that one time the Avatar tried to kill him, maybe because he only ended one of many lives out of revenge whereas he would have been gone for good. Ending all bending would be one way to properly kill the Avatar. That's was what I was thinking for as his motivation.

I'm not sure we've met unmasked Amon yet. While Tarrlok is the type who might start a revolution so he could crush it and be a hero, he seems more like a B antagonist to me.

I'd point out that one of the reporters was voiced by the same guy that voices Amon, but considering his voice actor, having a small character voiced by the same guy as the masked villain isn't really indicative of anything.

I just got an email from Amazon today saying that book 2 of "The Promise" (the story between Aang and Korra) has come out.

I think I'm going to buy Promise Part 1 and 2 this week.

Amazon's email apparently lied to me... cause it's listed as pre-order still. Amazon can suck a fat one.

I hope they got it all out of the way for a while. A bit of a boring episode, a couple good scenes, but not much happening.

Anyone think they just make up or change the rules of this game as they go to let who ever should win, win? Sometimes they score two points for rounds, other times one, sometimes the round lasts forever other times it times out relatively quickly.

No, I haven't bothered looking to see if there are rules posted anywhere on fan sites or official sites.

I don't believe they change the rules. From what I've seen, there is a finite round duration though you can obviously finish it sooner. A full KO is worth more points than knocking out a few members.

What is happening is that people win when and in the ways necessitated by the plot. The matches were just supposed to represent team conflict for the episode. At the end, Korra coming back to win a 3v1 is just about plot. It didn't make much sense in terms of the sport.
