I'll just start out by mentioning what pretty much anyone who's seen the first movie and the trailer for this one suspected. It's the exact same movie, just in Thailand instead of Vegas. I'll also say that the first movie was better.

This time around, since all the characters were familiar to me, it wasn't as funny when they pulled the same gags as the first movie. Alan is still clueless and odd, Phil is still telling everyone to just calm down and figure things out, and Stu is freaking out over every little thing. There are enough new bits in there to be worth at least seeing it, I wouldn't recommend spending too much on it. I only spent five dollars, so I'd say I got my money's worth. It was funny, but not as funny as the first movie. I'd say if I hadn't already seen the first movie, I may have liked the sequel more than I did.

This is funny, particularly if you've seen the movie.

My opinion was about the same:

Not as funny as the first, but still a decent movie in its own right.

To the european people, it has a scene in it where people freak out over a transvestite for over 10 min thats supposed to be funny but it ends up just being completly awkward and degenerating, it has a few more more moments like this.

First movie miles and miles better, first movie had some cleverness and nice surprises, 2nd not. Its a cheap rehash, I do not recommend.

I always felt like the first movie was a bit overrated. Enjoyable, yes, but Get Him to the Greek came out around the same time and was much, much funnier to me. I think I'll pass on the sequel...it can wait for Netflix.

Saw it, bitterly disappointed.
Don't bother watching it in the cinema, just rent it on DVD.

I didn't find Get Him to the Greek all that funny; I enjoyed its somewhat-prequel Forgetting Sarah Marshall much more. *shrug* To each his own, I suppose.

I agree with this completely. I never could understand the obsession people had with the first movie, acting like it was the greatest movie ever. It's moderately funny, sure, but far too crude to be fantastic imo. (I can't comment on GHTTG because I have not seen it.)

Zach Galifianakis is overrated, too. Not quite Jack Black overrated, but still pretty high up there.

Complete agreement. Seems like a one-trick pony, and that trick is the awkward grown-up guy.

Kinda like Michael Cera is the perennial awkward teenager. At least some of the movies he's in are creative (Scott Pilgrim was awesome).

I just saw the Hangover 2 yesterday, and I agree that you should wait until it comes out on DVD. It has its funny moments, but it follows the exact same format of the first film. It would be a perfect addition to a Netflix queue.

I should have read this thread yesterday before going to the theater. Ah well, at least it was matinee pricing.

To illustrate my point, I give you CollegeHumor's list of the 100 greatest comedies of all time (I believe they were voted on by site members).

The Hangover: #2

...Really? Smiley: confused

The list is absurd by any standards, even when you factor in the natural bias of the site's demographic. Have a look, it's worth a laugh (or a good cry, perhaps).

Oh my god, superbad was #4? I weep for humanity. I've decided that the site should be renamed highschoolhumor since that's obviously the primary demographic.

Here's a scary thought - it would have been a few years ago. Now they're college age o_O

I've seen all of the top 10, although I haven't seen all of Anchorman.

Their voting system seems silly, IMO.

On second thought let's not vote there, 'tis a silly place.

Fixed in respect to #1.
