So lately I've been on a anime fix watching a ton on Crunhyroll. My usual fare is Comedy,Romance/Harem. Anyway I'm clicking and was split between watching Myself; Yourself and School Days.

Well in the end I watched Myself; Yourself first, its an alright anime nothing spectacular kinda messed up but in the end an average watch.

Then last night I watched School Days.

Dear. God.

Its starts off as your normal Boy likes girl, girl likes boy with a possible third or 4th love interest. The first 5 episodes play out rather well, boy is a blundering idiot when it comes to anything female.

But then it gets darker, and darker til its pitch black, but NO it doesn't stop there it goes all the way. I have never had an anime make me this unsettled (a tad queasy) before this.

After some research I found this was based on a H-game (they make such awesome harem animes Smiley: rolleyes) with 21 possible endings, including some ending not normally in this genre, which makes it stand out.

I'm not sure if I want to recommend this anime or tell you to stay away. I know for a fact that I will be doing my research a bit more thoroughly before randomly clicking an anime and watching.

The answer is always to recommend School Days. ALWAYS.

I honestly cannot fathom how you sat through that entire anime without knowing about the incoming "nice boat" payoff".

I'll have to add that to my list. Your description made me think of Mai Otome. While it doesn't get as dark as you're making School Days sound, it has a similar timeline; it starts off light and goofy, but about 10 episodes in it does about a 90 degree turn and gets some very heavy plot. It's very good if you keep going, but you wouldn't have a clue just watching it for the first time.

That's the thing I WANT to recommend it but, but wow it threw me for a loop.

As for the other comment I've been out of the anime loop for a while (about 2 years or so) so my anime has really fallen behind. With this spare time thanks to being laid off I'm binge watching.

So far I've watched:
H2O-Footprints in the Sand
Maburaho
Zero no Tsukaima
Zero No Tsukaima: Futatsuki no Kishi
Zero no Tsukaima: Princesses no Rondo
Noein
Myself; Yourself
DearS
Good Luck! Ninomiya-kun
School Days
Evangelion 1.11/2.22
Trigun: Badass Rumble

As well as some currently airing series, also I forgot to write down a few I watched.

He's leaving out the fact that everything that happens at the end, you're probably begging for it to happen. At least, I know I was. And School Days didn't seem like a sudden veering, but a gradual descent into madness.

Read the manga, The anime stops at around issue 20 ish or so, the manga fills the rest of the story very well and one of the few harem type that actually has a rather well done ending.

http://www.mangafox.com/manga/dears/

Don't worry its 'completed' so you'll get the full story and not another ongoing anime to add to the list.

It reminded me a lot of Chobits, with a less subtle ending.

Edit in: also watched The World God Only knows and read all the manga **** ongoing series. Thats a really good one too!

Huh.

School Days... I know I've read that. *Looks it up*

Ohhhh, that one. Read the manga a while ago when I was on a horror/psychological bent. The ending really came out of nowhere and frankly I didn't care for it. Now, the game sounds AWESOME (if you like H-games, I mean Smiley: blush), and the anime sounds much more interesting. I skimmed the wikipedia entry for it and right from the get go I read "thinks she's pregnant and goes to get an abortion" and closed the page. Already the anime sounds more interesting than the manga, which was a standard (and rather plain) school days romance until the last chapter when things get crazy out of nowhere. Seems it's a combination of "bad" endings from the game Smiley: lol

So yeah, this is probably one of those "watch it, totally better than reading," like Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni was. Of course, I still have a season and a half of Battlestar Galactica to watch before I waste even more time on a new series!

This is one of the series I'm so happy I both read and watched it. Awesome opening song, and the anime stays very true to the storyline (as far as I recall, I read the beginning a long time ago but still read the updates whenever they're out). The manga is far ahead of the anime thankfully, so I'm hoping the anime stays true to the manga for a while. Eventually it will probably veer off because the manga isn't complete yet.

Well the 2nd season got greenlit because the TRAILER for the first season sparked a ton of interest. Honestly though they will probably keep extremely close to the manga. Other than maybe having the 'chapters' out of order, many the filler chapters though so that's kosher I guess.

I think the show ends approx around the 50's in the manga chapters, so would take approximately 2 more "seasons" to reach where the manga is. And since TWGoK is weekly I wouldn't foresee them having to do too much filler if any.

Only shows that seem to be filler'ed (yay for making up words) out a lot is stuff like Bleach/Naruto since they run all the time and not in the seasonal brackets(12/13 episodes), I think.

So since I've posted in this thread I've watched Beelzebub, and read the current 99 chapters. So far a good action/comedy, I want to say its a mash up of Bleach/yu yu hakusho. Had some good laughs and I like where its going. The Mangaka seems to be making sure all the characters stay relatively close in power lvl, unlike Bleach where its Main character> Everyone else by a long shot.

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu Season 1/2 - Mediocre Romance/Comedy/Harem, Its good for a watch and few laughs but unmemorable.

And Omamori Himari - Decent Action/Harem/Comedy, wanted to read the manga but unfortunately the fanslation group have fallen behind and they are only a few chapters passed where the anime ended.

I also enjoy this one (reading it). Usually gives me a chuckle each chapter, putting itself ahead of many fighting series.

Since we're kinda tossing out series we've read recently...

Just read up the current chapter in Sankarea, which is a fun harem/ecchi manga about zombies (so far no brain eating). I also just read all the current chapters of Nineteen, Twenty-one. I... really liked it. A lot, actually. I believe it's Korean, so the art style is slightly different than manga, but the story itself is pretty good. Plus I'm a cat person, so a story about two cat-lovers who bond over their affection for felines made me happy Smiley: grin

I feel like I read another recently that's been great, but I can't think of it right now! Smiley: bah Hopefully it'll come back to me eventually...

Meh it's probably because of my binge/watching reading I might be dulling my sense a little. But I started watching back when Ramna 1/2 was in season 3 ish, Hand Maid May, Video Girl Ai, Tenchi Universe, and Love Hina (Best Harem/Romance manga evar) Back when RM was supported format and everything was super pixelated. I had a Crappy Gateway with a Pentium 1, 20 gigs of HDD. Me and my friends would download 17 gigs of anime burn them onto CDS Format reinstall Windows 95/98 and repeat. Then watch anime for a week, ahh good times.

I still remember being all excited when End of Evangelion got subbed me and my friends sat around my PC watching it, any High action scene was a pixelated blur and the subs would be hard to read.

I was kinda lucky when the Comic/Anime shop in the area 'borrowed' out fansubs they put on tape, I was able to veiw many series i wouldnt have got the chance.

I honestly don't mind Manhwa, I read UnbalanceXUnbalance (Wish it would be updated /sigh), Aflame inferno, Freezing, Re:Birth - The Lunatic taker (Pretty much anything by Im Dal Young) I just need to remind myself to read Left to right again.

Might check that out though, I'm a cat lover myself, and will proudly proclaim I've watched almost all of Chii Sweethome/Newhome and had my head explode from cuteness overload.

Hey the Shinigami Arc was good, everything after sucked,

kinda.
maybe.
ish

Honestly Yu Yu Hakusho was 1st arc was interesting then it was just fighting. Hmm, the more anime I watch the more I start to see this pattern, that kinda repeated itself.

Meh, probably just my brain imagining those weird things again. I'll pay it no mind.

So, started watching School Days... after episodes 5 and 6 I feel really depressed Smiley: frown The main character is a jerk. The story is similar to the manga, but there are pretty big differences. For one, the anime feels a lot more mature. In the manga there're a lot of longing looks and innuendo, and eventually some kisses here and there, but no overt *** (I guess it was implied at the end of chapter 9, but eh, clothing was on...). So far in the anime, Makoto is a pushy guy who simply doesn't care how the girls feel. I feel very much like he uses Sekai's feelings to guilt her into ***. In the manga, it feels more like genuine confusion. Sekai pursues him, rather than the other way around. The character of Sekai also seems very different - in the first 4 episodes she's outgoing just like in the manga. But once chapter 5 hits, she becomes very timid and guilt-ridden (pretty realistic, actually). I don't know where it'll go from here, but in the manga she remains outgoing almost all the time - although she snaps at the end. I feel like the anime, if it leads to the same conclusion, is doing a MUCH better job of showing the changes in her. Rather than being the pushy, friendly, vivacious girl she is throughout the manga, she shows a conscience in the anime. Add some drama and tragedy into the mix, and an ending similar to the manga would make a lot more sense.

Anyway, I'm already liking the anime a ton more than the manga. The manga was standard fare until the last two chapters, then it was wtfviolent and creepy. The characters seem much more fleshed out - Makoto is a playboy instead of just being indecisive, Sekai has a conscience and is the victim, not the instigator, of the sexual advances. I'm wondering what Katsura will do next (when she finds them kissing in the manga, the next day she tries to kill Sekai and stabs Makoto by accident... but there are still 6 more episodes, so I figure the anime goes further).

But man do I feel depressed about it right now Smiley: lol

Edit: Thinking about it, this series takes a perfectly good harem H-game and injects a pretty realistic feel to it. It becomes the opposite of the game - a warning against just playing with people to get what you want. I'm curious just how far that warning will go - judging by Bean's reactions, I think it'll get much MUCH worse!

This is my take on what happens here. Ep 5 is the start of the downhill, it only gets worse from there.

This is a spoiler so view at your own risk. (Sorry this is long)

In the beginning Ito and Kotohana are just shy kids who like each other. They cant even talk to each other because they don't know how to express themselves.

Sekai sits next to Ito in class and sees the picture on his phone, for w/e her reasons she wants to make Ito happy and sets the 2 up. Then as he thanks her she steals his first kiss, because she likes him. Planting a seed of doubt in his mind, he doesnt know how to treat this action.

Anyway on their first date it was trainwreck, he doesnt know how to treat a girl, showing his naivety and innocence. On the opposite hand, Kotohana, is way to shy and never speaks up. In the end he tries to kiss her, which he thinks is the correct thing to do, never having done something like a date.

Sekai steps in again, wanting Ito to be happy, She scolds them both, with good advice but now shes spending more time with It, her feelings are growing for him. Finally she says she'll 'train him', but part of it is becuase she wants him also.

Ito doesnt have a clue what a real relationship or feelings are, Sekai uses that and her understanding of what she knows he wants to, pretty much create false feelings (lust) for her. I mean this guy couldn't even figure out how to say hello to the girl he likes.

Kotohana keeps herself distant from him and when he 'advances' on her she pushes him away. In his eyes he sees this as she doesnt feel that way so much for him. Sekai on the otherhand seems to want to allow him but only as practice.

I don't defend Ito becuase he is a jerkass, and should have realized what he was doing earlier. But I feel Sekai used his innocence to win him over, because she wanted him. Kotohana isn't completely innocent either, she wanted to be with him so much she closed her eyes to what he was doing.

Then each girl that likes him pretty much uses him for what she wants then forgets about him or moves on.

In a sense each showing Ito what hes doing wasn't wrong. I mean were talking about a kid who couldn't even SPEAK to the girl he liked. And his not breaking up with her says to me he still liked her, but her pushing him away to what he thought were correct advances, ment she didn't like him. When hes with Sekai he feels comfortable he can be himself, and she accepts him, but keeps saying its practice/training, which he thinks is ok, becuase hes never knew it was wrong.

Finally the big I'm preggo fiasco happens. All the girls which he thought cared and accepted him turn their backs, Sekai uses this to do this. But one other girl refuses to give up thanks to her delusions/truly liking him.

Finally when she confronts him, he sees what hes been doing to the girl he actually likes, how his meanderings and flings hurt her and wises up, finally admiting he loves her. this breaks her out of her delusions/depression and she realizes that she needs to open up to him to keep him.

he breaks up with Sekai in a terrible way, still being childish, BUT he does it RIGHT AWAY. He doesnt loligage like he did earlier in series with Kotohana, Becuase unlike Sekai he actually has real feelings for Kotohana, he didn't want to break up with her because he liked her and thought if he could get more practice/experience she would open up which she never did.

Kotohana even says this to Sekai at Ito's, that she needs to be open with him if they're relationship will work. The kiss was easily a stab at Sekai to **** her off, but Kotohana realized what Sekais been doing. **** Kotohana even kinda goes out of her way to see about the baby, which she has a feeling is a lie. The Translation is kinda vague, at first I believed it ment abortion, but in context of what Kotohana on the school top after she finds Ito dead leads me to believe otherwise.

Kotohana says Did you goto the clinic, Hes a good Doctor. How would she know that the doctor was good at abortions, maybe she wanted to see if she was really preggo, or lying. Or possibly figured even if it wasnt hers she still cared for it becuase its part of Ito.

Im not exactly sure. I could also be way off. Anyway my take is:

Itos an Idiot and a Jerkass but hes not completely to blame, part of him honestly didnt know any better, and all the girls pretty much reinforced that what he was doing wasnt 'that' wrong. It doesnt leave him without his own faults but in the end i think he finally wised up, a day late and a dollar short but yeah.

Sekai: Controlling, jealous bish. She used his nievity, becuase she wanted him, but she never really showed him, rather just gave into what she thought he wanted so he would be with her.

Kotohana: She wouldn't open up to him, pushing him away, and didnt struggle hard enough for what she wanted (him) until it was almost to late.

All 3 are to blame but I think Sekai, is the one to blame the most. Followed by Ito for being a jerkass and not realizing what he was doing.

Sorry for the long post :(

Warning Spoilerz:
MC is just a normal boy, he doesn't instigate anything. Don't see how you people get that vibe from him. Girl sets him up when she really shouldn't have, and then goes back on her decision. Guy is confused but doesn't pull back. It's obvious which person he held only fleeting emotions for. But, like a normal young boy, he doesn't settle sh*t properly and pretty much just leaves whatshername hanging. He wants the 'relationship' to end, and thinks that by avoiding her she'll get the hint. sh*t continues like that for a good 9 or so episodes or something. Whatshername starts going crazy, and MC starts evolving. Based on what he's been pulled/pushed into so far, he starts to get addicted and doesn't see anything wrong with what he does. Then the sh*t hits the fan, everyone wants to @#%^ him and he happily obliges. Blah blah blah pregnancy, blah blah blah oh sh*t wake up call, blah blah blah addicted to ***, blah blah blah nice boat.

I don't see how Sekai is supposed to be controlling or anything. She loves MC, and MC at the very least liked her too. At the end he starts becoming delusional himself, wanting the same type of lustful attention that he's been getting, without any of the responsibility that normally comes with it. He doesn't love whatshername, who is most definitely crazy at this point, he is just as delusional and wants to escape from reality and responsibility. I'll have to rewatch to be sure, but I'm fairly positive that Sekai was not lying and did not at any point have an abortion. Giving the other crazy delusional girl's words meaning is just silly. How many months in was Sekai? Pretty sure there shouldn't have been anything to be seen yet.

Ito is definitely to blame, although the things that caused him to be what he currently is can all be blamed on other people. It's therefore both his, and not his fault.
Sekai is at fault for what she does at the beginning, for after that she does nothing wrong.
And whatshername is just a crazy *****, and everything she does after the beginning is definitely her own fault.

I watched it on my own in one sitting, with no previous knowledge of it or any related memes. sh*t was awesome. Especially when he just went and @#%^ed everyone.

2 episodes left... and all I can say is...

1. Girls are freaking vicious (and can and hopefully will be charged with crimes)
2. This series totally destroys the H-Game/harem ideals for me Smiley: cry

Edit:

OMG, WTF, OMG!

Nah, ok, kinda saw that coming. Major props for this being almost 100% realistic except for the threesome (maybe, I do have a friend who did this...), and the deaths. Best school days (snicker) genre I have seen.

I totally missed this meme.

Anyway, I disagree in part. Makato could be a nice guy... but he's not. Sorry, but as soon as he slept with Sekai without breaking up he crossed into ******* territory and never went back. I cannot understand why for like 5 chapters after he never went to Katsura (psychogirl) and said, "Hey, sorry, my feelings changed." Bam, it hurts her, but it's over. The rest of his crazy hook-ups were just... messed up. What especially annoyed me was the ring-haired girl, who was one of Sekai's best friends but unlike Setsuna didn't even have a past with Makoto. Her only excuse might have been "Well, the guy I liked is interested in your ex(?) so I might as well go for you" but even that is poor.

Basically the entire series is people ******** over other people to ***** a guy who honestly had better have a 19-inch dong or the world just isn't fair.
Smiley: bah

I need to go watch some no Naku Koro Ni for enough random violence to get this bitter taste of reality out of my mouth. Honestly, this series is the best and most realistic (if extreme) schooldays genre I have seen. The fact that I can almost entirely piece together this entire plot from real life experiences (thankfully, not my own) leaves me incredibly freaked out and pretty sad.

... great recommendation, though Smiley: grin

Your welcome. If you want another anime i just finished, Its an action/schifi/comedy/harem-ish

Asura Cryin'

I honestly would rate this as a 10/10, I couldn't find any ONE part that brought the anime down, The story was well constructed, all the characters felt fleshed out, music is good, Animation was good. Probobly one of the best animes I've watched in a LONG time.

As for the views on the characters, I guess its difference of opinion, different viewpoints. I completely agree ep 5/6 on the main character is pretty much a jerkass.

But if you take a step back from his actions later and watch the first few episodes you might see Ito being almost a different character, Hes a Nieve love struck boy trying to figure out his feelings/actions, who doesnt know what hes doing.

He doesnt love Sekai, in the last episode he drops her almost instantly. While Kotohana he kept putting it off. One offered Love the other offered lust. Yeah Sekai was in love with him, but for most of the time they were doing stuff she didn't even ask him to break up with Kotohana.

It's kind of like 2 dog owners splitting and letting the dog decide, Ones offering there gentle hand the other has a steak in their hand. the Dog will almost always pick the steak quickly even if the gentle hand would have been a better master in the end.

Again, I don't think the way Ito acted was right at ALL, nor do i condone his actions, and honestly I felt there was a bit more to the whole story then what it looked like on the surface.

PS Im a Ito/Kotohana shipper :P When they FINALLy got back together in the end i was so hoping for that ending, then i was emotionally scarred for life ! LOL

Its kind of funny this is the ONLY anime I've watched that I hated most of the characters and how they went about stuff, but I still wanted to keep the story going. I guess the watching a train-wreck in slo-mo effect.

Anyway I'm happy you liked it, I hope I can offer my opinion on some other animes you might like. I try to be pretty open minded about everything, but I do have opinions and don't mind being told I'm wrong. The only Genre I'm not a huge fan of is Gundam, I liked Wing but was never able to pull myself into the other ones, yeah I'm an anime heretic probably for saying so.

If you have a Crunchyroll account friend Otakami that's me.

According to their March 1st update, they said a completed version will be out by the end of this year. If you want to watch a walkthrough of the PS2 version (translated), it's on Youtube. It's different than the PC version (no hentai), and it doesn't have all the endings, but it seems pretty decent. I watched the first episode last night before heading to bed. I just want to get to a good ending Smiley: lol

But I gotta catch em all.

Edit: Which is probably the same reason he goes on that boat trip at the end.

Speaking of Crunchyroll, I have a guest pass for 24 hours premium membership if anyone wants to marathon a series or just wants to see what it's like without ads and getting to watch new episodes of stuff :P.

Man, you guys are making me really want to watch this, and not watch it at the same time. I don't know if I want to watch something right now that's going to stress me out.

Thinking about it some more, I had a few questions:
1. Was Sekai actually pregnant?
2. Was the hospital to check about the baby being real, or for an abortion?

My initial feelings were yes to the first and the latter on the second.
Sekai certainly seems to think she's pregnant. She covers her stomach and rubs it multiple times, she gets sick, she never used protection for ***. Dumb freaking kids -_-. And her reaction to the hospital suggestion implied to me that she was basically being told to "get rid" of the problem.

But looking further into it, I can make a decent argument for Sekai lying. It's obvious Kotonoha is crazy at the end, but Sekai I don't feel was in her right mind either - she stabs Makoto, and not just once either. He tries to get away and she wrestles him down and stabs the ever-loving sh*t out of him. She obviously used his confusion to get her way with him before. Her getting sick can easily be explained by grief - Setsuna said it wasn't uncommon for her to lock herself in her room and cry for days when upset. Anyone that anguished is going to have physical issues as well. Most tellingly (for me, at least), she never takes a pregnancy test, instead choosing to confront Makoto in front of the entire school, purposely torpedoing his relationships without any hard evidence. I feel she was bitter and upset, but knew exactly what she was doing. Even at the end, it's not pre-meditated murder but she knew what she was going to do - she sent him a text before sneaking up on him, stabbing him, and wrestling him down.

The only really telling things against it are Sekai's lack of "crazy eyes" like Kotonoha, and her rubbing her stomach while alone. I feel like the disembowelment proved it. Kotonoha was crazy, but if Sekai was far enough along to show symptoms, she was far enough along to have something in there.

As for the hospital it's a lesser issue. I still feel it was meant for an abortion, although for Kotonoha it would be win-win either way. Either it proves Sekai has no baby and is lying to keep Makoto, or she gets the abortion and Makoto gets off free. Sekai refusing to go could be explained by her not wanting to give up Makoto's love child, but as she murders the **** out of him anyway I don't think she's really planning for the future. More likely she's been caught and knows there's no way for Makoto to be with her, so she goes to town on him.

Just idle musings, of course we can't know for sure.

It's super depressing, kinda crazy, but one of the best school days genre that I have read. It's also really realistic for a large part of it - the characters act like how real life people act. The boy is indecisive and ecchi, the girls are backstabbing jerks, and there are a lot of messed up things that happen way too often in real life (cheating, foursome, pregnancy scare/lies, death when it comes to the overly emotional or crazy and romance. That last spoiler have happened to a few people I know, so this series freaked me out even more than I thought it would Smiley: lol
