TV Viserys seemed suitably nasty and repulsive in character to me.
In the books I got the idea that the Targaryon dynasty had come down to vile minds in almost superhumanly beautiful bodies, through close inbreeding. Their ancestors, the dragonriders, had the dragons, the magic link, the looks, AND good minds. Viserys is just left with the looks. But indeed he has them.
You think so? She looked like maybe say, a 6.5/10 to me. I don't think she's got the prettiest face, and her body is nice, but not model-level. Certainly good looking, just didn't wow me.
I only bring this up because I actually liked that about her. Same for most of the cast, really. I can take the show more seriously when I feel that the actors were chosen for their acting chops and suitability rather than how hot they are.
I know GRRM describes some of the characters as being really good looking (Jaime, Cersei, Sansa, and to a lesser extent, Daenerys) but I feel like that'd still contrast poorly with the series' gritty nature in TV format. I say leave the picturesque maidens to more traditional "high fantasy" fare, personally.
Downloaded and watched the first episode (many thanks to those who responded to me in PM!). Loved it. The entire time my biggest complaint was "I don't want to wait for the next episode!" There was a LOT of information presented in the first chapter, and I can hardly imagine watching the series without reading it first. It's almost impossible to understand exactly who was important and what their relationships were without reading the series, but I felt they did a decent job. I also feel like the Cold Ones at the beginning were a tease, since as of the fourth book they still haven't really shown up except in small groups here and there.
And holy sh*t, Daenerys is hot.
I think I might be getting old - my first thought is "Holy sh*t, she looks like a 16 year old girl. Ick." She's attractive, sure, but... I felt kinda slimy for seeing her without clothing. Tyrion is going to be my favorite; love Peter Dinklage (although I really feel like Hollywood only has two go-to little people). Also, I was constantly confusing Rob, Jon, and Theon - they all looked similar to me.
Oh well, great start, looking forward to how it progresses. I wonder if the viewership will take a hit in the second season, since Sean Bean will probably not be in it.

Awesome episode. I enjoyed this one more than the first, now that the introductions and such are out of the way. I also liked that large portions of dialogue were culled directly from the book in this one. Great acting by the kids.
My comments are pretty much the same as the first episode. Still very solid. There is some pretty obvious CGI at points, but it's hard to make that blend well with actual footage, so I let it slide. It still looks good.
