Pretty funny thus far. Anyone else check it out already?

Basicness: He was killed by a serial killer. Then resurrected to become a zombie. And then he becomes a chainsaw wielding magical girl of some kind.

I totally thought he was mistaken and meant she or something, but right near the end of the episode my jaw dropped and laughed quite a bit. Show is shiny as well. Really, really shiny. Seems like a very promising show.

It seems like only the first episode so far is subbed. Is this correct or was I just not looking hard enough?

I watched the first two episodes on Crunchyroll. This show looks very promising, and I'm looking forward to more of it.

If you don't want to use Crunchyroll (they of course require a premium membership for the latest episodes... but I just happened to have a 30 day free trial activated recently), try here.

Watched this last night with a non-otaku friend. Conversation pieces from him included:

"Why do they show the girl's panties? Is it supposed to arouse the audience?"
"You called it a Pedobear. What's a Pedobear?"
"As a med student I don't like this. If he could hit something that hard, his muscles would explode."
"Ok, his arm broke. I like it now."
"WHAAAAT? So he's a tranny zombie?"
"Let's watch more episodes!"

I also watched the first episode. At the very least the show is an equal opportunity gender offender.

While I like it for being over the top, I'm displeased that it doesn't play the archetypes it's parodying any different than how they would normally be played out. Doing something ironically isn't funny when it's indistinguishable from the real thing. A bad joke told knowing it's a bad joke isn't a good joke.

You and I obviously have different senses of humor. A bad joke can be funnier than a good joke if done right.

So I just saw episode 6. Wow, the show just suddenly got hard core. To jump from a gag comedy right into a dark drama was incredibly jarring. Cliche plot? Sure, but a near perfect execution. Genuinely creepy.

Indeed. That episode was effing awesome.

The next one sounds like it brings the silly back(based on the episode summary on Wikipedia).

After watching episode 11 I had to create a new tag in my anime list for this show: "bullsh*t."

I kept going back and forth on whether this show was just plain awful or so bad it's good, but it turns out it's both. Episode 11 is some of the stupidest bullsh*t I've ever seen in an anime, but then whales with school shirts start coming out of the megalo and suddenly "dammit I like this show again."

I really hate Vataro for making me watching this. He also forced me to watch Negima.

Negima's anime is pretty mediocre. The manga started out good (if you like harem comedies and fan service) and then became very stale.

Oh @#%^, what an awful show... I just watched Negima?! recently thinking "It can't be that bad, it went 26 episodes and had a movie or two or something." @#%^ that sh*t. Just a little frustrated about watching that show. Hindsight, probably should have stopped watching it, but I have a tough time stopping mid-show.

On Zombie... I love the show simply because of how ridiculous it is even with the plot was lame. Plot ending was a big let down, yet the final episode was awesome/hilarious. I'd probably give the show an 8/10 for being so outrageous, imaginative, and having a weak story.

Still waiting on Madoka, but I'm fairy sure that'll come out on top as my favorite show this season.

Eh, I feel it just has gone on far too long. It started out as one genre and turned into another - from harem romance comedy to fighting with panty-shots. Heck, it basically went from Love Hina to History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi after the first few volumes. And even Love Hina ran a bit long - I read back over it again a few months ago and was surprised how much of the story blended together in the middle in my memories. It was still really good, but I found myself thinking "Eh, this could have been 10 volumes instead of 13 and nothing important would really be left out.

Although then the second Okinawa arc would probably be missed, and I did love the whole Keitaro/Mutsumi angle Smiley: inlove

Edit: I think also that one of my major problems with Negima is that after 20+ volumes, when a new chapter is released every month I forget what the heck has been going on before.

That is a surprisingly accurate assessment. But I was a (mostly) big fan of Kenichi too, so it still works for me.

Madoka is my favorite show of the season, but then again this season was pretty meh.

Madoka I have at 8/10, with Zombie at a 7/10 (I'd give it a 6.5 if I could).

I'm only gonna finish Yumekui Merry because it's almost done.
I dropped Gosick... lol. Rog hates me now, but whatever. It's a pretty average show once you get past Victorique's cuteness.
Maybe if they went more into how she gets those intuitions, and how she figures things out... maybe they explain that later in the series, oh well.

Only show I started and dropped this season was Level E. Besides being awful, the distribution of the show was strongly moderated. Any torrent or stream was dead within hours after being posted. I'm not about to work to watch awful anime. I'll give this 3/10... three is the number of episodes I watched and I applaud the show for creating the biggest troll I've ever seen... and now that I think about it, I bet the show was just animators trolling us. and yes, I know it's on Crunchy Roll, but I don't like them.

Other shows... I enjoyed Gosick, but I feel like they go over the top with this "Let me use my great well spring of knowledge to piece together this chaos for you." at which point she pulls out a pipe to smoke and snowflakes appear on the screen. Other than that, I liked the format of the show. Each arc started with a simple mystery that anyone can figure out, but then this leads to something more complex. Typically, I was able to figure out the answers to the mysteries before the girl pieced them together, though they weren't so easy as to be gotten immediately. Probably give this show a 7/10- better than a 6, but Zombie was better.

Merry started off strong, I thought, but then died off into this sea of doubt, hesitation, and nothingness. Animation and character design were probably its best aspects. The world that was created had a lot of potential and I wish it hadn't been squandered like it was. While something like doubt and hesitation can work well as conflict, in a short series such as this, since it took root at the start and has lasted over half the series, it made the show seem dull and drawn out. 5/10

I wanted to watch the show about the cross dressers, but never got to it. I might go back some day if it turned out well since the first episode had me interested.

For future use, please use Tokyo Toshokan.

No streaming allowed.

Also, Level E is ok, I'll probably give it a 5. I'm not a big fan of the humour in the series, but it was entertaining at least.
I don't really see the "biggest troll ever" bit, honestly. The first couple of episodes were trolling, but I found them funny.

Since I've got other reviews here, might as well a couple more-

Bakuman - Really good show, I thought. The story is about two middle/high schoolers trying to become professional manga artists (one writes, one draws). The two students face many problems along the way while making friends and rivals. The drama in this show is very well played out and I was on pins and needles the entire time watching the last episode just from the suspense. This easily deserves a 9/10.

Fractale - Eh, can't really think of anything positive or negative. I guess the OP was really good, but other than that, an average show. Probably a 6/10.

I felt it fit the series exactly, and also left it pretty open for a sequel which I'm rooting for. I was surprised by the 'final' episode being rather OVA-ish but Eu was cute as hell in her inner tube.

The final 'fight' was basically a tease, they are both zombies and neither could truly die. So it would have just lasted forever. That's why it played out as it ended, and the Big bads final words are awesome sauce. (note my sig) Which floored me.

Because of what the series was aiming to do and the way it played out I would rate it at 8.5/10. That number would have gone up if there had been a tad more character/plot development, and if It gets a green-lit 2nd season since it left off open ended, which I usually hate but felt in light of this anime was fine.

I downloaded the raws for this and I'm reinstalling an old copy of Adobe premiere I haven't touched in over 7 years to make an AMV of Zombie set to Mindless Self Indulgence - Eveningwear. Hopefully I can remember how to edit, but will probably suck since I stopped because I hated my AMVs I made back then (Which I only showed to friends to mixed re-actions :s

I tend to hate amv's but make sure you send it or post here. I really did enjoy the show, just the whole Eu talking thing without a real explanation and then being silent in the show really pissed me off. Especially after killing whatsherface like 11 times in episode 6(?). Then suddenly for no reason, she's struck dumb again.

Might as well make use of the double post:

I actually got Haruna about a week and a half after Eu, or I'd have posted it then.

ZOMG I want, where did you get them from? Also when my gf gets made at me for buying those I'm blaming you.

They were included in the March edition of Dragon Magazine. Well the one is like a magazine which is the light novel stuff, the manga book that Eu came with is as thick as a telephone book.

The final confrontation in Zombie pissed me off. I'm glad there was the final episode. I gave it a 7 on MAL.

I pretty much agree with this, though I haven't seen the "OVA"ish last episode yet. I ended up enjoying the show just as much as I suspected I would after the first episode.

Quote:
Episode 11 is some of the stupidest bullsh*t I've ever seen in an anime, but then whales with school shirts start coming out of the megalo and suddenly "dammit I like this show again."
That could almost be a good description for the show in general. It appears to be nothing special for a good portion of the viewing time(not saying bad, just nothing spectacular), then suddenly something crazy happens that completely makes it all worthwhile.

Wow, you've got an awesome writing style.! I really dig the narrator's back story, humor, sarcasm, and the plethora of pop culture references. Altogether a refreshingly different RotR journal (not that I don't like the more traditional ones, mind you).

They did explain why she couldn't talk, it was because she had so much magic that even her words caused sh*t to go down. She got pissed off at the girl enough to get rid of all her lives, so she busted out the words for it, then went back to silence so as to not use her magic again.

That part made sense and I was not confused about that. I'm referring to after she killed the other zombie guy.

I think that the danger of her talking was still there, even when she spoke to him after the death of the other, she just felt it was worth the risk at the time.

Wow. Usually I stay away from anime, but this is good. I'm three episodes in and I can't stop.

Help?

Don't fight it. Just ride this train down to the end of the line.

There are, after all, much worse things to get addicted to.
