I found a 2010 TV series called Sherlock... they've updated Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson to the present day. Done a really good job of it, well chosen actors for both (which is rare in Sherlock Holmes visual media), fast, properly snarky script, and interesting visual editing.
They've done a bang up job on both characters, especially Sherlock, who is appropriately strange, bossy, brilliant and manic depressive; describes himself as a high-functioning sociopath, at one point. Watson is a suitable fit, capable everyman. In the original books Watson was handsome, capable and smart, and the illustrations showed him that way. It is horribly unfortunate that so many movie/TV adaptations chose to show Watson as ugly and a bumbler, as if Sherlock needed that much contrast to suitably appear as a genius. A properly presented Holmes never did.
I'm sad there's only 3 90 minute episodes per series, because they are so exciting.
