What do you think of Death Note? That's my top favorite anime so far.

Would have been better if it ended at the halfway mark.

Never seen it, but have read all of it. lolgaxe sums up my feelings pretty much to a T about the second half. The first half is by far one of the best manga I have read. To be fair it was also my first foray into the suspense/thriller/psychological genre.

I agree, I have read the entire thing but the second half was just awful.

One of my most favorite manga/books/movies was Battle Royale. I've read the book, seen the movies, and trying to read the manga but they seemed to have gone away with the regular books and turned them into those massive books which totally jacked up with the like 5 books I already own.

I don't really know what you're saying here, but if you're complaining about the price you can read the manga of Battle Royale here.

No, not the price. They started making them into those like Mega books, that contain like 3-4 of the smaller books.

Ultimate Editions, that's what they are called.

Like the others, I really enjoyed the first half and wished it ended at that.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy the second half with Near and Mello and all that jazz, but it just wasn't as good. If the series ended at the middle, it would have been perfect.

I saw nothing wrong with the second half, other than Mello's horrendous character design.

Yes they did. I've tried to watch it a couple times.

I thought he was trying to spell Squeakel, and thought someone did a Chipmunk parody of Death Note.

Would have been better if it had ended at the two thirds mark.

I watched the live action movies and they more or less followed the plot of the anime, but leave out the Mello/Near bits. The best thing about them is that they used the same voice actors for the movie as the anime, which made watching the dubbed version less awful than most dubs.

Problem would be it wasn't as good as the first half. More of a prolonged ending, with him trying to ultimately win but is cut down to size. It dropped Death Note from a "Watch that in a heartbeat again 10/10" to "Well, it was good so I'll give it an 8.5/10 or maybe a 9".

Now that I think about it, Death Note was like the anime version of Scarface (the 1983 version not the 1932 one).

I enjoyed the animation style of L., but the Light Yagami character pissed me off straight from the word go. I couldn't empathise with him, I couldn't sympathise with him, I found his logic and morals faulty from their very foundation. I so didn't care what he did or what happened to him.

L. was much more interesting and charismatic, and I was pissed with what the story did to him.

I never watched anything after episode 25 (well, besides the last 10 minutes of the finale). I just wasn't interested. It makes absolutely no sense to me why you'd kill off a character that is a major protaganist, antagonist and fan favorite.

I never watched the actual anime, however I did watch the live action movies and liked the first 2 pretty well. The 3rd one was so-so as it had nothing to do with the actual death note.
