Glee, Season 2Follow

#52 Nov 09 2010 at 11:07 PM Rating: Good
Finally got caught up on the last two episodes... Meatloaf had a cameo? Was he one of the cable news guys?

Overall I enjoyed the RHPS episode, but I do agree that some of the lyric changes were unnecessary. If Britney and Santana can talk about scissoring each other, i think "heavy petting" is acceptable. John Stamos' Hot Patootie was awesome. I forgot that he could sing. =x It's been a long time since I've seen Full House, but I gotta say he looks so much better without the mullet. I didn't mind the slight key changes in some of the songs to be honest, I noticed them but they didn't bother me.

I do need to get around to downloading some of the music from these episodes and the second half of last season, but I can safely say that I'm not going to go looking for the songs from the RHPS episode. It's kind of like how I felt about the My Fair lady song that Emma did last season, the original is much better. Which is kind of sad, because Emma has a very nice voice. They need to give her more songs. I really loved the Touch Me song too. It's my favorite from the musical.

The duet episode wasn't bad either. i loved Tina and Mike's song, I agree that it was very cute although it makes me wonder if that's really the best Mike can sing lol. Also, what happened to the other black kid? Having Mike get more screen time recently made me realize that the black football player from last season is missing. I definitely feel bad for Artie that his first time with sex was so bad after the fact, but I wonder if Britney really did use him just for his voice? I don't think that the argument that she ***** everybody, so why would she **** you unless she wanted something from you is a good excuse. Maybe she's one of those girls who doesn't get any love at home and so she seeks love through sex? I dunno, I want to give her more credit than the other characters do. Besides, we all know Santana is a ***** and will lie through her teeth to get what she wants.

I don't really see Glee as being anti-sex to be honest. One of the first episodes we saw Rachel join the Celibacy Club and tell everyone that girls want sex too. I think what the show does do, is try to tell people that sex is something you need to be careful with. If you have unprotected sex there's going to be consequences, and if you have sex with someone you don't care about for the first time (ala Finn and Artie) you're going to feel like **** afterwards. It would be nice though if they'd show a more positive example of what people should strive for though, I'll admit that. I'd be great if they had Rachel dump her ridiculous idea of not having sex until she was 25 and not until she's married, and have her and Finn have a really nice first time.

They basically shuffled him off in one of the first episodes of the second season by saying he moved to a different school, the end. It was weird.

I guess maybe I could have worded it better. Your paragraph after this sentence pretty much summed up my feelings - there's been no "good" examples of sex, only negative ones. It doesn't avoid the topic of sex - it just hasn't shown anyone having anything good come from it.

Actually, the episode where she had sex with Finn made me think otherwise. Afterwards, she said something to the effect of, "Before you rush me home, can you stop and get me a burger? I'm really hungry." I don't remember the exchange exactly, but I remember it left me feeling like she was used to being used for sex then discarded pretty easily.

If anyone makes me think she doesn't get enough love at home or whatever, it's her.

After my girlfriend begging me for the past hour to let her tell me who Kurt's new love interest is, I checked facebook and got it totally spoiled by her status:
"This episode of Glee is 'totally awesome'!
If you couldn't guess, it's Darren Criss, who plays Harry Potter in "A Very Potter Musical," which is an internet phenomenon with over 25 million views. My annoyance at finding out is matched only by my excitement for the new character, as I think he'll be amazing! Can't wait to watch it once I get home today... didn't get a chance yesterday.

Don't worry, he's pretty awesome. Oh, and even though I'm straight he's pretty hot. And has a great voice. I hope we see more of him for sure.

The song he/their choir sung I enjoyed, although there were a few points where the autotuning was of course overused :(.

That's true, I hadn't thought of that. They probably both have elements of that going on. Don't get me wrong, I do like Santana as a character, although I can't say I would want to deal with anyone like her irl. Britney just comes off as a harmless follower more than anything else, where Santana is more like the ****** ring leader.

Last night's episode: Freaking awesome! I really loved this episode, I have to say. The introduction of the guy who is going to be Kurt's new bf was great. And the part where Mr. Neanderthal football player kissed Kurt was hysterical! I really love the trope that people who protest the loudest against the gays are actually gay themselves and don't know how to handle it. And poor Kurt! The horrified look on his face was priceless. I did feel bad for him though, he almost looked like he felt he'd just been raped. Chris is such a great actor.

The whole Beast plot line was awesome too. I definitely felt bad for her. While I can't imagine going that long without being kissed I was teased pretty mercilessly in middle school and sometimes it felt like I was never going to get my first either. Will helping her out with that situation was very sweet.

As far as the songs went, I liked both of them quite a bit. I definitely think the girls did better though. Bon Jovi, yes please!

One final thing: I love love loved how they put Tina in with the guys who needed to "cool off." Goes along with the whole "girls want sex too damn it!" theme from last season that I mentioned earlier. I never expected Mike to be so puritanical, even though we got a peek at that with the RHPS episode when his parents wouldn't let him play Frankie. And I loved when he was all "Stay away from my woman!" That was so funny.

What? No. God no. They did not do that song justice. I thought the guys' song was much better.

Of course my favorite song of the episode was the boys' choir's song.

Can't argue with any of that. Smiley: lol

I haven't seen last night's episode yet, will watch it tonight, but this doesn't surprise me. I remember the episode where Tina was getting frustrated by all of the "authentic Asian" stuff they were doing. From what I understand, they are sort of religious and frown upon that sort of thing.

Yeah I just never expected that a family obsessed with being "authentically Asian" would also be religious considering most Asian countries don't have a strong religious base of the conservative Christian type.

I remember watching Gilmore Girls, and Lane's mom being really conservatively Christian. Maybe that's where I was getting it from. Smiley: lol

It's odd to say, and I feel prejudiced considering my admiration for Dennis Criss, but I LOVED this episode. While there was some autotuning in the choir song, it was my favorite of the episode (but I am a HUGE sucker for a cappella). In fact, all the songs were good. The whole thing with Chris and Kurt caught me completely by surprise - I thought Kurt was gonna eat a knuckle sandwich. I gotta admit, Beast + Will made me go "OH GOD NO!" even though it was kinda, er, cute? Bon Jovi was good, last song was better though, and I loved when Sam sang - I really enjoy his voice.

Overall, my favorite episode of the second season. Good plot, great songs, a little lacking in the Sue department, but overall really good episode.

I love a cappella, too. Which is why I was pissed when I heard the music being played in the background.

Kurts new BF is cute, though.

And GOD DAMMIT let Santana ******* sing!!! Her voice would've been great on the Bon Jovi mash up, but they buried her in the background again. I'm tired of it!

I must be deaf - where is the background music?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E46BhMIRujI

I've listened to the song a half dozen times and I don't hear any background music - the only thing that comes close is the percussion, because they don;t show the beatboxer.

****. I was wrong. They did it so well, I thought it was music. Smiley: lol

Color me impressed and un-pissed. Thanks for the link and for restoring my faith in Glee.

I'm totally in love with Kurt. He's so elegant and beautiful and sensitive and wispy. His long cardigan just slayed me. Also the time his dad was in a coma and he sung "I want to hold your hand". For me his face while he sung that is the best ever moment of Glee.

I preferred the Bon Jovi mash up. It might not have been gritty enough, but it's the grittiest I've ever heard on Glee. The choreography, blowing hair and costumes were ultra fun too.

I love a Capella, but not this one. Ugh. Pop Lite. Almost all the songs on Glee sound like they are sung by a 5 person boy-band populated only by tenors anyway, and this song was one of the worst offenders.

Yeah I think that's why I liked the Bon Jovi mash up better. The girls looked damn hot rocking out like that, where the boys looked like wannabe lounge singers... Although singing to Beist was really cute.

Was it just me, or did last night's episode have some hilarious one-liners? I don't think I've laughed that much at Glee in a while.

I really enjoyed it. Also the first song was really good (my girlfriend thought it was Meh, though she just doesn't care for Paltrow's voice).

FINALLY, an episode that shows off the "second string" a bit! I enjoyed the Warblers song, but it was weaker than the original (sorry Darren Criss). I LOVED the dance number, although the moves pushed the song to the way side. None of the songs really "WOW!"ed me, but they were all pretty decent. RIP Rachael and Finn, although I know it'll be back strong as ever next weak. Gotta say, I kinda love Barbie and Ken.

Also, the episode reminded me of how brutal emotions in high school are. If nothing else, I kinda got that nostalgia during the breakup, reminding me of my own experiences and how it feels like the world was ending.

... granted, I never had a kitty calendar of my SO.

Except that all of their wardrobes, sets for the songs, and choreography have been ridiculous since the start. Smiley: lol

Finally caught up on the previous two episodes tonight, and I gotta say I loved the wedding episode, and enjoyed the sectionals episode but not as much.

I often wonder how much I missed out on going to an all-boys high school. =/

I'm surprised more people didn't write about the sectionals episode...

Anyway, today's episode was entirely about Christmas! And overall, I found the songs exceedingly meh. I didn't know Rachel's first song to Finn (my girlfriend was aghast); the boys' duet wasn't as good as other versions I've heard; Sue's Grinch song was funny but it's a cruddy song; the last song I didn't recognize but it sounded the "best." The first song about the Island of Misfit Toys was probably my favorite, but only because I love the movie it's from. Overall it didn't put me in the Christmas spirit, it just made me hope next season picks up a bit as this one ended in a slump.

Note: I may be biased because I am already sick and tired of Christmas carols on the radio.
