Netflix Strikes Large "Watch Instantly" DealFollow

This makes me happy.

If you buy even one DVD (that you don't want as a keepsake/gift/etc) a month, you've pretty much paid for your Netflix. I totally recommend it to anyone that isn't blind.

ETA: Or rent something like 4 Redbox DVDs OR 1 Blockbuster movie.

Sweeeeeeet!!!! I've been paying my $8.99/month, but I haven't even bothered 'renting' a physical disc. So far, the online stream has been good enough for me, but now it's even better.

I would welcome this news if I hadn't canceled my account a few months ago for them refusing to send me a pair of new releases for over two months, despite them being on top of my queue. I can understand making me wait a week or two, but two months is just unacceptable.

Excellent news! Netflix's Watch Instantly catalog has already gotten much better in the last year, and this will only help. I think the studios have finally decided to back Netflix as the digital distribution platform of choice.


Wow, you actually have Blockbuster still? My neighborhood just lost all of our Hollywood Video stores (due to the company officially going out of business), and all but one Blockbuster closed over a year ago. There's not even any local Mom-&-Pop rental places anymore; Blockbuster and Hollywood ran 'em outta business years ago. Our only affordable options are Netflix, Red Box, the public library, or Pirate Bay...


Also, what movies were they? I've seen some movies on "long wait" for quite a while due to popularity. I've also had stuff be on "long wait" that's not new releases. For example, I've currently got Cowboy Bebop Remix in my queue, and the first disc (and only the first disc for some reason) has been marked "long wait" for weeks. I also had Farscape Season 1 in my queue for literally months. I finally found out the discs had actually been recalled due to a manufacturing defect or something. So, sometimes the delay isn't because of anything Netflix can control.

Huh. I had Inglorious Basterds come to me as soon as it came up, soon after its release. I've heard of people having the issues you had but never experienced them myself or seen anything in my queue skipped over more than once.

Not entirely related, but kinda cool is that Hulu is offering a similar service through the PS3(and probably other platforms) that's currently in beta(my roommate's in the beta, which is what reminded me to mention this).

According to IMDB, there's a new Short Circuit in production right now!

Interwebs Challenge Time:

Find a video or audio file of Johnny Five singing "Still Alive", it can be a files spliced from different scenes from the movies.

At the time, they didn't have it on streaming yet. Once I found that they did, I had a small geek-gasm and promptly watched everything they had available. I have Season 4 and Peacekeeper Wars in my queue somewhere, but I keep getting distracted by Dr. Who and sundry other movies... :)

As an avid Netflix user myself, I'm pretty stoked about this. Now if they'd only put True Blood back on their streaming list, I'd be happier.

If anyone with kids wants an awesome show from the 80's, check out Jim Henson's Storyteller. There's only 9 episodes, but I watched them yesterday and was thoroughly entertained. Or you know, if you're like me and just like fairy tales you'll enjoy it too.

Yeah, the guy with the magical bag. They did a few fairy tales I was familiar with, and a few that I wasn't, so I really enjoyed it. One of them was a particularly interesting variation of "Stone Soup" starring the storyteller himself, as he claims it happened to him. They also did the story of the Princess whose brothers get turned to swans/ravens and she has to stay silent for however many years to free them and the Cinderella type story of the girl with the three dresses that look the moon, stars and sun. And one about the seventh son of a seventh son.

Wait... the "Watch it Now" movies expire...?
