So- I initially watched the first 9 episodes of clannad at a friends dorm when he put it on while falling asleep a while ago. And after catching up on a bunch of anime I finally got around to finishing it. I liked it a lot, there were plenty of small things that made me laugh. And to top it all off it pretty much ended the perfect way. Not once have I had seen a harem type situation end with a happy ending.

So of course, I started up Clannad After Story. It was slow at first, but before I knew it I was halfway through. I went to sleep after episode 12, and I'm glad I did because once I get to around episode 16 I decided I can't stop watching until I finish it. Episode 16 and on have been pretty much a baww fest for me. I literally, and I mean that seriously, bawwed at episode 18. Many animes and shows have made me come close- to where you feel like your eyes are about to water up.. but you can hold it back. I couldn't hold it back at that episode. I originally thought the ending song was meh compared to everything from the first season.. but the way they transitioned into it in episode 17 made me respect it a lot. I spent the previous episodes wondering who it was at the beginning and I finally found out.

So yeah, I tried not to spoil anything; but if you're a hopeless romantic like me then I have to recommend you watch this. But be prepared to have enough time to watch at least 12 episodes of after story without break.. because if you're like me you won't be able to stop once you reach a certain point. To those of you who have watched it, did you also baww when he was on the trip with Ushio?

edit: Episode 22 was wtfhax. If it wasn't for all the different dimension stuff built up through the entire series I wouldn't be able to accept it.

I almost cried, it was pretty close.

Clannad is still one of my favourite series.

Almost?

I don't usually cry when watching anime or movie but the scene in the field when Ushio is looking for her toy and then when they go back in train and he decides to tell her about her mother ... Yea I cried like a baby.

I read the first 7 manga chapters today.

AND.

THEY.

SUCKED.

Seriously, worst school life story I have read in manga so far. Generic, boring, the ONLY good thing I could say about them is that it moved quickly (by chapter 7 the two main characters were usually dating... compared to say, Yankee-kun to Megane-chan, where 80 chapters in there is still hardly any romance!

So I came home, reread this, and watched episode 1 of the anime.

100% BETTER!

This is one of those series that I feel will be a lot better in anime form. Although I'm kinda laughing at the music and scene changes, because they are right out of a Love game (which is what Clannad originally was... granted, without any fan service). I finished the first episode and am actually looking forward to episode 2... rare with school life. I'm sure we'll hit the big school life themes: festivals, field trip, a haunted house, hot springs at some point... but for now it's fresh and new.

I'm just hoping I don't need to get to the second series to get the Bawwww moments :-/

There are indeed some baww and daww moments in the first season. It's just.. I seriously cried a bit at that certain point in the second season. Never happened before with any anime..

I'd recommend [SS-Eclipse] subs btw. Another thing I really liked about clannad is that there are 2 specials that are sort of like alternate worlds. This was a love game originally after all, so I was really happy to see that they played out the stories of the other 2 people I think he could have also ended up with.

I think the manga might have been based off the anime. (?)

edit: I went back and watched the opening from the first season.. and was like holy sh*t.. that's Ushio..

Yeah it's truly one o the better harem shows out there. KEY does some amazing things when they get their hands on a license and can pump out the emotion in a show pretty damn well.

Their most recent show currently airing is Angel Beats, and at first it put off a LOT of people for coming off as a "Haruhi Clone" But given a few episodes in you'll not only see that it has it's own story, which is quite original compared to what's out there today, it's get's u thinking as to what is going on and how the characters deal with the problems that arise.

Truly a hidden gem among the sub par shows this season, definitely worth a few episodes (because episode 1 is hella confusing and doesn't explain jack XD)

Angel Beats,

Aaaaand now I have something else to watch besides Clannad, which is freaking long enough already! On episode 8 now, and can already tell this could end up hella sad. And part of me (er, the dirty guy part) keeps hoping it'll turn into a fan servicey love game. I'm trying to hold that down, but the urge to fire up True Love or something to balance out all the Moe is getting harder and harder to resist :-P

Don't forget to watch the two specials! I'd say the appropriate place for them is probably after finishing Clannad, but you can watch them after After Story also.

Oh, and you're almost at what my friend calls "the violin episode". That episode woke him up when he was sleeping lol.

You won't need to.

I've only seen the first one(have the second one but was midway through something like six other series so finishing those off first), but I'd have to say that this is the first series I've ever seen that effectively yo-yos between epically heartwarming, sad as all get out and beyond hilarious in an almost natural way without creating a mood whiplash that detracts from the series.

Yeah, I really like when series can do that effectively, and without making obvious and jarring jumps between moods.

I can understand the having to finish off series; but make sure you don't forget about watching after story. The first one is nothing compared to the second half of after story.

I watched the first volume yesterday and will probably watch the second one today. I really liked it!

I'm bummed, though, 'cause the After Story volume 1 isn't available. I can "save" them, but I can't get them. Vol. 2 is available, though. Weird.

I watched the first episode of Clannad today, and I'm reminded a lot of Kanon (which I believe is because they're from the same people)... which means I can already tell I'm going to like it. :P

Watched episode 1 today, it was very... cute. I think I'll watch some more of it before I'll pass actual judgement, but seeing everyone so positive about this, I doubt I'll dislike it.

I started watching it(one roommate has gotten ahead of the other two of us, so we'd also been waiting to watch it until he had other things he had to do). They didn't hold back. It starts on the rollercoaster of sadness and heartwarming pretty quickly.

Though I probably have never laughed as hard as I did when Tomoya convinced Sunohara to ask Nagisa's dad for Sanae's hand in marriage.

Yes, this is my 20k post. I was gonna do a ding with a bunch of pictures of myself, my friends/family and some stuff around town, but I've grown tired of waiting on a few friends/family to visit so I can get digital versions of pics of them.

Also, no Clannad thread is complete without this:
Mei from Clannad

I totally enjoyed that scene, where Mei spends the afternoon calling Tomoya "onii-chan" Smiley: lol

The gif of that picture is just so perfect. I didn't even realize it was of this series until I got to that episode. You cannot go more moe than the existence of that gif.

If I'm correctly guessing your position in the series, you're still only on the start of the roller coaster where it's pulling you up. At somewhere around episode 14+ be prepared to have enough time to watch it to the end without breaks.

Yeah, I know. I found out about this one on TV Tropes a good while back(doing the ol' wiki walk) and I'm the kind of person who just reads all the spoilers there, so I know where this whole thing is going.

Episode 6 now. While I find it highly amusing, I fail to see a consistent story coming in soon. The **** Ibuki being a ghost part was a bit of a stretch, but I haven't seen how it's resolved, so I guess I can't comment on that.

Edit: Damnit, I cried again.

Ok, be prepared to watch 16-24 in one sitting. Once you finish 16 you will not want to stop. I ignored like 60 phone calls from my dad because I had to finish it.

The two OVAs are <3. They filled in the only two possible "things" I could have wanted to happen.

We talking After Story here? That aside, I've been doing little else other than watching Clannad when I had time the last two days.
