Music down loadersFollow

#1 Jun 05 2010 at 2:33 PM Rating: Decent
Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of finding another MP3 down loader, I would prefer if it was a pay one to limit the amount of virus/spyware/crap that can come with free programs or torrents. What are the most popular ones out there, and is there any of them that let you pay for unlimited downloads? So please list some of the programs you guys use out there and I'll look into them. Thanks for anyone who helps me. CHeers

I assume you aren't talking about a pay-per-song/album service like iTunes?

The only one that springs to mind is Pandora.com. It's streaming, so you aren't actually downloading the music, but it's free (as long as you put up with ads, but they're a lot better than the radio).

Honestly, for free music, using torrents is way to go.

he/she did say they were looking for a pay to download service to avoid viruses... I use iTunes because I own an iPod. The only other one I'm aware of is Rhapsody because I've seen commercials for it, never actually used it.

I highly recommend Pandora too, although I don't think you can download music from it, you just listen to it.

My beef with Pandora is that they're now forcing you to pay for a subscription if you want to listen to more than 40 hours a month.

Last.fm is free, and pretty much the same thing.

Deezer is a semi-decent website if the song you want is available and works. It's a legit site out of France that has some contracts to host music through a few of the major record labels. As for actually downloading the tracks, since it's free, you'd have to most likely find a way to illegally rip the tracks from the site.

One positive thing about sites like Deezer is that a lot of unsigned artists looking for exposure hunt down sites like this to get the widest possible exposure. This means I can find a HUGE selection of one of my favorite genres: Underground Hip-Hop. Most artists that don't fit a particular criteria (especially in Hip-Hop) tend to remain unsigned, regardless how many records they sell or how talented they are. So while paysites are great and all, remember that you can find an incredible range of music on free sites like Deezer from artists simply trying to make a name for themselves. Unsigned =/= bad music.

Not to nitpick but who gets viruses in torrents? If you use websites like TBP, Isohunt and among others that are popular they have open comments for every single torrent and if there is a virus they are rated down into the negatives or removed from the website entirely. I trust torrents over any P2P program that exists today which isn't going to be many before long, Limewire and a couple other popular ones are about to get shut down.

I do and do not support this, but I've used it to get a few songs that I already own -but are scratched or are on old Records (And i don't feel like rebuying them on CD).
You can use Dirpy with youtube to pull the song down and into a mp3 file.

If you're not an idiot, it's pretty easy to use any music downloading program without getting a virus...
