Okay so we all know he had a mental breakdown because he took vengeance on his kid's lives that were lost when his wife drowned them. She had telltale signs of mental illness but he disregarded it out of love. Obviously bit him in the *** in the end. So basically they let him roleplay through all the elements because it was the only way they could keep the place running, pretty sure that was said at some point during the end. He finally breaks out of the delusion, not that he didn't in the movie at certain parts but at the end... he asked his friend, what would be better? To live as a monster? Or die a good man?

He chose to die a good man and chose to make it look like the experiment failed, which in fact would shut the place down and there would be no funding. Maybe I have the ending wrong but I don't think so. In the whole movie he wanted to figure out was going on, whether it was a delusion or not; and in the end it seems he has. Going to re-watch the one part just to make sure they say he's the last hope they have of the place staying open... brb.

Well maybe I got the ending wrong, they said it's his last chance before they labatomize(spelling) him. I thought somewhere it said the place would shut down. But I guess if I had to choose to live the rest of my life with my memories and be mental the rest of my life or that route and know that what I did was right I don't know what I would choose. The doctor did say he talked to the board to try and prove something to them that it works, was assuming they would shut the place down, the one other guy says that they would be discredited so I dunno. Take it how you will.

I guess I will stand by my previous statement then. What does everyone else conclude?

Though you could argue the other route that he was Teddy the entire time and his wife did in fact die in a fire. Because they only showed his daughter in all those flash backs to the war. Not only that but someone pointed out in another forum that I was thinking of, the tie thing. Why would they have his tie after two years of him being there? Was it part of the roleplay? This movie has my mind going crazy lol. Hopefully Wolfman will cure that.

First of all, it was a horrible ending, and I wish I had my money back after going to see it. Ten minutes into the movie, I had the ending figured out, which is infuriating.

Second of all, The doctor said he was trying to convince the board that he could "fix" Leo's character by letting him play out the delusional fantasy that he had come up with as a way of coping with losing his wife and children. He wanted to convince the board that a lobotomy wasn't necessary at all, and to let him have the run of the place to let "Teddy" do what he wants. It either didn't work, or "Teddy" decides that he wants to be lobotomized so he can get rid of the memories. When he asks the doctor, "Would you rather live as a monster or die as a good man," I think we see that he knows exactly what's going on, and he's chosen to effectively kill off the part of his brain that remembers his past life so he can be at peace.

At least, that's what I remember it all as being. It's been a while since I saw the movie.
