I thought that the revelation that Gene Hunt is actually a 19-year-old boy, a police constable that died way too early in his life for being cocky, as opposed to what we have seen from him now was very well handled.

The scene where Chris, Sazh and Ray all see how they really died in their real lives was extremely powerful and is one i will remember for a while.

I did not really buy the plot twist that Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes is pretty much purgatory for police officers and that Gene Hunt's alter ego is essentially the gatekeeper to heaven. That was a LOT to take on even for a series finale although it did explain how Hunt seemed to know a bit too much about the new officers that came into his station.

I thought the final scene was excellent, the idea that heaven is actually a pub made me laugh and that the whole series came full circle by that guy bursting into Hunt's station at the end, shouting "Where is my god damn office!? Where is my IPhone!?" and seeing the smirk on Hunt's face was brilliant.

Good ending to the series.

Those indeed were awesome touches. If I understood properly, I did like how Keats essentially turned out to be the Devil.

Although, with everything coming full circle it makes me sad that this brilliant series has finally come to an end. I mean, with everything that went on I don't think they could make another one without it becoming drab.

The 2nd, or is it third series hasn't shown in Australia yet. I couldn't resist looking at the spoilers, because I'm so in love with the show. After all, it's the journey that's so much fun, right?

I was so disappointed when Life on Mars finished. And then Ashes to Ashes happened and it was even more mesmerising, engaging, funny and riveting. My favourite scene of the series is when Gene Hunt sees Alex Drake's wallet on the inside of the closed restaurant, and realising something is wrong inside, he steps away, turns around and shoots the front glass windows in, and it all falls down in slow motion, so he can step inside and play "save the day" instead of the usual fantastic "withering *******". That slo-mo fall of glass is one of my favourite TV images, and is particularly good on a large HDTV.
