Until Death Do Us PartFollow

Scene: It was a Friday at work. I had been busy all morning tracking down deposits from the last fiscal year, and I deserved a break. Friday is practically Saturday, right? That means the weekend. So over I stroll to onemanga, go into a random series and what do I find? An action-thriller manga that has kept me interested and on the edge of my seat for 60 chapters.

Until Death Do Us Part reminded me first of a movie a couple years back with some girl who was a precog and some guy with fighting skills way too good. Then it went completely katana, as many manga series are prone to do. But after 60 chapter the drama and action has continued ALMOST unabated. I am constantly looking forward to what happens next. Part of me thinks there had to be a leap in time, especially since Haruka says that Mamoru is her husband in the future, and I really think I'm hanging on for that. Part of me is awaiting the likely cliché but interesting story of how he lost his sight and what his relation to Genda might be. Part of me loves the fact that Genda looks like Lupin. And most of me just likes how I can get swept along with the action and I can't wait to see where the cards land.

Anyway, the series is ongoing and only has around 100 chapters right now. It's also published in Japan by Square-Enix, which I found amusing. But if you have some time to kill, or are just as tired of work on a Friday afternoon as I am, go check it out. I'm enjoying it so far!

Anyone know if there is an anime? I haven't found anything about it, but I figure it would make a pretty good series, despite being relatively new (Dec 2005 was the first issue).

Edit: Oh, if you want the storyline, basically it's a girl with precognitive abilities finds a blind swordsmaster to protect her from various groups trying to utilize her abilities. The swordsman is backed by an antiterrorism group that supplies him with a sword that can cut through anything and sunglasses that allow him to "see." What will happen next!?

I'll check it out as I've been looking for another manga to read. I do loathe enjoying manga that aren't complete, having to wait weekly on chapter updates.

Yea, ongoing series are the bane of my existence, but I might check it out. I do enjoy that OneManga has a customized reading list though, so I can check for all my ongoing series at once. Makes it slightly less painful, even if I do check a couple times a day despite knowing the release schedules for all of them (well, except Mirai Nikki).

I do the same thing; trying to keep up with Negima, Nononono, FMA, and History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi :-P

Hells yes Negima. I also am enjoying Fairy Tail (same author as One Piece, but much better).

Ah crap, I forgot that one; yeah, I'm up to date on Fairy Tale too. You know, I've never seen One Piece. I did read all of Rave though, which is also by the same person (same drawing at least).

How does One Manga get away with scanning these books in and translating them? Isn't there a copyright infringement or piracy thingy somewhere here?

Not that I'm complaining... After you got me hooked on Mirai Nikki (which I both love and hate you for) I'm interested in browsing that site more.

My understanding is that they go ahead releasing everything and that they immediately remove anything they are asked to. Several top series such as Claymore and Soul Eater have been suspended on their site because they have been licensed. Since they comply with the requests I assume no one pursues the matter any further since it is m ore trouble than it is worth.

Huh. That's pretty awesome, though, that they are able to get away with it. Smiley: nod

Fairy Tale seems interesting. I need to go pick up some cleaning supplies and attack our bathroom, but I'll definitely be back to read that one.

Fairy Tail seems fairly similar to One Piece from what I've read/heard, except that everything I've read makes it appear better. I've read all that is currently released of Fairy Tail and it's a shounen series that sticks very strongly to gags and never gets too serious or too focused on story.

Plot is ok, but it definitely seems to take itself less seriously than RAVE, for example. And I can't help but feel like it's just going to go on forever; this entire new Earthland arc is... really out of nowhere. But I still enjoy it.

I got to end of "Until Death Do Us Part" over the weekend and moved onto "The World God Only Knows." It's made me literally laugh out loud three times thus far; I'm enjoying it. Probably because I'm an otaku and a megane myself.

30 chapters in and enjoying it so far. Which is not a good thing for an ongoing series =/.

I found the first five chapters of The Future Diary at Books-a-Million last night. Smiley: laugh

I was tempted to purchase one just to take it home and see how well they did their translations.
