The last 2 selections brought to you by the animenewsnetwork Top 50 list. Looking forward to seeing if they live up to their ratings.

Baccano! is great. I haven't watched any of the others.

I'm taking a little break from anime, after my Railgun+Index marathon.

I'll probably watch Kino's Journey next, by recommendation of Allegory (and later Manosuke).

The movie is better than the series.

Baccano is pretty good.

I still have mix feeling about Higashi no Eden. I didn't like the ending.

Haven't seen the other 2

No I haven't. I enjoyed it a lot until the end. kinda felt Spoilerlike a rip-off of code geass

I guess I'll give the movie a try.

I strongly disagree, but I suppose in this case it can be legitimately attributed to taste.

The movie has better music and a higher percentage of action, but I like the shoujo-shounen blend of the tv series and the condensed story telling (originally 52 episodes were planned, which was then shrunk to 39).

Baccano! is great if you can deal with the jumping back and forth (some people just don't like that style of storytelling).

Escaflowne was one of the very first series I ever watched. Haven't watched it in a while, but it was definitely pretty good, better than the movie.

Eden was good. I still need to watch the movies though.

ef was ok. I liked memories better than melodies.

I don't know about the ANN top 50 list. Clannad AS as #1? Really? I'm not sure that's even in my top 10, or 20.

Baccano! was enjoyable. Now to decide what to watch next... probably Escaflowne.

I did enjoy Escaflowne a lot... and I can see why Allegory likes Dilandau.

The entire Escaflowne series is simply a set up for the next time a cat girl can yell "VVVVVVAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNN!"

The movie does it only once, methinks. The movie is darker, animated better, has a better soundtrack, & has one of the coolest opening scenes out of any anime.

Sure, a lot is lost in the translation, but the good stuff from the series is all there.

I watched the first episode of Eden of the East last night, and I wasn't really impressed. I'll reserve judgement for now though. But I hate the character art for the main characters.

Just watched episode two of Angel Beats!, I lol'ed a lot in the first half, and then it got all serious business on me during the second half.

...So I'm still not quite sure where or how this anime is going to develop the plot.

I had to deal with a lot of people thinking I was silly for my cartoon viewing habits as I got older. Statements like "Wouldn't you rather be watching Seinfeld instead of the Simpsons? You're not a kid anymore." and whatnot were pretty common. That kind of thing didn't stop until I started getting into anime with some friends from high school. So I'll always have a soft spot for anime.

Add in that culturally, it's still like that around here to a degree. Cartoons are becoming more present in adult society, but for the most part are still only the realm of comedy(and some shock cartoons), where in anime you often have a variety of types of shows. It's a lot easier to have a conversation, at least for me, about a show that tells a continuous story than one that's made mostly of throwaway gags or single episodes where nothing is changed once it's over. There are some shows where you get that sort of thing, but they're mostly marketed to kids and the adults watching them are just a periphery demographic(Ben 10 is one that comes to mind).

And some of us just love us some fan-servicey Japanese cartoons.

Add in the fact that Johnny Bravo is kinda old and that's why he doesn't get a thread(also, you want one, start it, dammit!).
