Horror MoviesFollow

I've decided I want to watch some good horror movies. Any recommendations on some that will totally melt my face? Preferably netflix available as I dont want to travel the earth for some underground titles.

Favorite horror movie would probably be The Exorcist. Gore movies dont do it for me. Looking for one that really plants itself in your head. I've heard Paranormal Activity is pretty good and have that coming on Netflix. Also I just watched The Tale of Two Sisters last night, thought the plot twists were overused and only one scene in the movie made my skin crawl a little. Slept like a baby afterwards so it failed.

I prefer my horror to have humorous undertones. Things like the Return of the Living Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Evil Dead series as well as Dead Alive and Zombie Strippers will make you chuckle while trying too hard to be frightening. The Leprechaun movies are okay for that as well.

As far as horror for horror's sake, well, I can't really remember the last time I was scared by a movie so my opinion on the matter is a bit off. Maybe Drag Me To Hell or The Hills Have Eyes would be up that alley. Maybe Phantasm as well, though I don't remember the sequels too clearly.

Rec (The original version of hollywood's Quarantine), Cloverfield, Drag Me to Hell, 28 Days Later, Session 9, Let the Right One In, & Event Horizon are some of the more modern movies that actually scared me.

Classics include The Thing, Alien, & Jacob's Ladder.

If you want to laugh, too: Dead Alive, Evil Dead, The Host, & the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (For one scene that has traumatized generations!).

I do not include modern Japanese horror movies in my lists because every time I watch one, I wished I hadn't seen whatever it is I saw.

Possibly the same ones who accidentally released "Night of the Living Dead" into public domain by forgetting to include a copyright notice in the proofs?

Cool, ill try out Ringu and I've been recommended Event Horizon elsewhere so ill give that a shot too.

So maybe just getting the Ring would be wiser? I've never seen the movie period.

Also, I've seen The Hills Have Eyes and was bored by it.

Try both versions of Ring. In my opinion japanese is better but they're both good.

Dark Water and grudge are worth watching too, but only japanese ones. While I am sucker for Jenny Connelly Dark Water US is simply boring while JP had me sitting on edge of the chair.

If you don't mind zombies go for 28 Days Later. It's quite good.

update: Just watched Paranormal Activity right before bed, with the wife, in the dark...

That indie was shot in a neighborhood called Rancho Penasquitos in San Diego, where I have quite a few family members. Unfortunately, the house (where the movie's director lived) has the same floor plan as one of my uncle's house. So while I was watching it, I couldn't stop comparing that house to my uncle's. "Hey, that's Len's room down the hall! Hey! That upstairs closet is where we used to play! Dude! Remember when we slid down the banister and tried to throw the ball into the chandelier at the same time?"

Did not make a scary movie for me.
