A documentary that recently came out on DVD about the hair stylings of black women. I've seen most of the other pop documentaries (supersize me, food inc., etc), but this was the only one to truly disturb me. Even the scenes of mutilated limbs from Murderball (a very excellent documentary which I would highly recommend) could not compare to the horrow I felt as a women describes the process by which her full weave was attached.
I feel a lot of sympathy for the women in Good Hair. As a white male I basically get a hair cut every 2 weeks, wash it, comb and maybe a little gel in the morning. What I go through and what most white women regularly go through is nothing compared to what these ladies experience. It was enlightening about a world I knew nothing about.
A sample clip.
