I just randomly chose this manga to start reading the other day, and only 6 chapters in I'm hooked. It reminds me a LOT of Higurashi no naku koro ni, in that I have noooo idea what's real and what's not and creepy stuff keeps happening. The series starts off introducing the main character (Amano) who is friendless and passes his day recording everything in a diary in his cell phone. He has an imaginary friend named Deus Ex Makina (hahaha), who controls time and space. Suddenly it seems Deus isn't so imaginary and gives Amano's cell phone a new power: the power to see all the entries he'll write in the future. It also puts him into a deadly game of survival, where 11 other cell phone users get similar upgrades and are pitted against each other. If they break their cell phones their future is effectively erased, killing them. The last survivor because Deus's successor.

The mindf*cks start coming early on. The school gets bombed early on, and it seems like several students die. Is Amano imagining this, or is it actually happening? Soon after, Amano opens a door in Yuno's house to see what looks like a slaughterhouse in one of the rooms. After he runs home, Yuno takes a page straight out of Higurashi chapter 4, and looks at him with freaking creepy eyes through door. Now I'm on chapter 6, and some poor dude just got his head cut open by an ax. WTF?

I guess the biggest question is, is this all real?

I'm really enjoying it; apparently the series is still ongoing. Anyone else read it?

Edit: An example of the creepiness would be this scene: http://www.onemanga.com/Mirai_Nikki/10/35/

Edit2: I learned a new word! "Yandere." According to wikipedia, it means:
Quote:
Yandere (ヤンデレ?) is a Japanese term for a person who is initially very loving and gentle, then at one point becomes deranged or psychotic, often brutally so. Yandere is a combination of the two words yanderu (病んでる?), meaning to be sick, and deredere (デレデレ?), which is defined as exhausted or lovestruck.

Well hi there, Yuno! Wait... are those ropes and knives? AAAEEEEEEEEIIIIIII!!!!

Holy crap, I'm really enjoying this. It has the creepiness of Higurashi, the mindplays of Death Note, a bit of gambling like Gamble Fish, and still a little bit of fan service! Plus I really like Yuno... although it seems like she's f*cking crazy.

Start reading, Pol! Although I agree this would make a really cool anime.

The crazy ones are always the most fun. Granted, she might lock me in a cage after and let me starve to death, but hey, it might be worth it.

That said, MOTHER@#%^ER, it goes right up to the climax of the series! There are probably only like 2-5 chapters left, ARGH!

Edit: Also, the ending is shaping up to be very Donnie Darko-esque.

Edit2: MAJOR POTENTIAL SPOILER
According to wikipedia, popular speculation says that Yuno is actually the winner of another round of the survival game, and came back from the parallel world to make sure Yuki wins this time. This explains why she can pass a retinal scan that only the Gasai family members should possess.

Personally I don't quite believe it, but it sorta makes sense. I think she's still going to betray Amano at the end.

DO NOT READ
I was thinking that the parents just recorded her retina pattern after the switch. So even if it really isn't her, it'd still be "Yuno's" pattern. Of course, I always look for the simplest solution to the most complex problems, and in case of anime/manga, especially ones dealing with time/space and such ... and, you know, now that I've read Chapter 48 while writing this it leads more credence towards the Yuno Time Travel Theory ... I want the **** last chapters.
Also: I'd also hit Minene.

Also Also: WTF is with Mrs. Kamado?! She's like a giant kewpie doll, and quite frankly she scares me.

Also Also Also: A little background reading.

Also Also Also Also: PARADOX.

Also Also Also Also Also: Also.

Enjoying Mirai Nikki greatly so far. There are quite a few plot holes, but they just don't matter. The plot is just to allow really messed up things to happen to really messed up people who do really messed up things, and I'll accept that.

I tend to like very extreme or psychotic characters, and stalkers in particular I find very interesting. I'd like to see more main character stalkers, though Yuno is a fairly excellent execution.

When reading, I thought it was interesting that his diary only predicted that he destroyed hers, not that she would die. I don't get why she has a 2nd diary though...

Tying into the conjecture from before, if she is actually the winner of the last game, who came back to the parallel world, then I would imagine that she killed her parallel self and took her diary as well. So the diary that was destroyed belonged to the current world's Yuno (who was already murdered). Hence, original Yuno has both her and her counterpart's diary. Maybe?

I don't recall diaries disappearing when the holder dies, but I don't feel like going back and seeing if that happens or not, haha.

Yea, it occurs to me that typically the diary itself is destroyed in order to kill the user. Whether the opposite happens we don't know. Interesting theory, definitely possible.

For sure. Wonder if the next chapter is the last? Guessing not. I feel like even after summing things up with Yuno, there's still Mura-Mura. And then the conclusion. I'm guessing 55?

Surprised Onemanga allowed it to be shown, as they block mature content now.

Yuno was awkwardly drawn in a few scenes, such as the lumber chop. It was just weird, but I can understand the intent.

I think Yuno's motives are fairly clear now. She's been continually leaping back in time (or at least once) to spend more time with Yuki, especially to relive the last day. She honestly would let Yuki kill her to become god himself, but since he won't she thinks she is preserving him by killing him to start everything over, because otherwise he would die with her. It's a little messy way to wrap things up, but I like that it preserves Yuno's total devotion to Yuki.

They've moved it to 1000manga.com.

And, yeah, Allegory pretty much said what I was thinking. It's sort of sad, how they're both bound in this loop. But I think Yukki has the right idea, sort of.

I also wondered if Yuno could go back in time and kill herself so Yukki would be the only one left.

Well she's definitely already done that once already, she killed the original Yuno of this world. Now why she doesn't just kill herself forcing Yuki to become god doesn't make too much sense, but I'm willing to chalk that into the "Are you questioning the logic of a crazy person?" territory.

True. And I'm wondering why we think she should have to go back in time to kill herself, anyway... She can do that just fine without going back in time. Smiley: laugh

I guess I wasn't clear. She goes back in time entirely so that she can spend more time with Yuki and so that he can in some way survive. She doesn't go back in time to kill herself, she kills her former self out of convenience, because if two Yunos were discovered then people would figure out her intentions much faster.
