Where is his background story? I admit my reading has been spotty but I have this nagging feeling that they haven't explained why he decided to betray everyone. Sure, power, blah blah blah but that doesn't feel like enough. Is there a section where they really explain his background?

I don't think they got to the monologuing section in the manga yet. I just think he's one of those types who just wants to be the most powerful in the universe, that why he's trying to break into the Soul King's palace in order to kill him/her and take their place.

I dunno. I find most of the Espada easier to like than him. I like Grimmjow and his crazy ambitions.

A power higher then him that's manipulating him or using him to ascertain their goals. I don't think the Soul Society king really does anything at all. Why kill him? That's why I think he's being controlled. Also, it gives them a lead in to extending Bleach. A rival of said king, who was competing for the position. The master with two pupils, one turning away whilst the other basks in glory and power. Perhaps the whole DBZ style there's always someone better then you. Aizen a pawn, with X being 'the true mastermind' yet his master Y is angered that you crushed X.

I don't believe it myself, it's all Aizen, all the time.

There's more to it at this point than we see, I hope at least anyway. Aizen is burning through his "allies" without doing any damage mentionable whatsoever to the shinigami, apart from a couple of victims anyway but noone really all that powerful as of yet.

As for his motives, the flashbacks tend to come near an impending death or major defeat, so it could come soon.

I'll be disappointed if Aizen gets killed by Ichigo. And you know, I feel for the Espada. They are just Hollow trying to do what a hollow is trying to do.

I dunno, they're all pretty much jerks apart from that guy with the guns - though there is circumstantial evidence to suggest he likes little girls. Maybe Halibel, too, but she has less characterisation than an extra in a Godzilla movie, so it's kind of hard to tell.

She's actually his physical other half, or he is her half. They can't remember which one was the original body.

I always liked Grimmjow. I mean, maybe you'd be bitter too if you spent much of your childhood as a Gillian and then some panther type animal, running around, trying not to lose your individuality. Now given the fact that Aizen got almost all of his Espada killed, even by his own hand, I don't know, I'd like to see Grimmjow (who was never actually killed) come back and stab Aizen. Just because--I mean Aizen never had to deal with all the gritty **** that the rest of the Hollows had to go through. ***** him and his bitterness.

My husband stopped watching Bleach when he found out Aizen was a bad guy.

He swore off all shounen action anime, but he always forgets, and once again, he had his heart broken by Fate Stay/Night.

Personally, I think Aizen is a douche for the sake of being a douche.

He's obviously doing it just so he can slick his hair back, which he was unable to do until he told everyone he was evil.

I've only seen/read Bleach up until Aizen leaves Soul Society after he is outed.

It was a shame, because he was hot. :(

I too only read up to the point where Aizen left with the Menos. Then I stopped reading, then the anime came out, and then I didn't watch it...

Now I see an episode every once in a while on adult swim if I'm doing something and forget to turn the TV off. But I never have any idea where they are, or what they are doing.

If I remember the last ones, there were some little puppets like Kon, and then there were a bunch of half-hollows like Ichigo, and then there was a little tiny half hollow girl in a green caveman like outfit or something.

The thing was...

Ichigo just got too ludicrously strong too fast. I'm not into animes when the MC is so ridiculously OP. Kinda takes the fun out of it... I get why (well, I predicted why and am 99% sure I'd be right if I continued reading), but still...

At least with Naruto, he didn't have access to his power right away, and it took forever for him to actually get really strong (I still stopped reading once he was though, just after the Pein battle).

Just isn't interesting to me when the character can flex their finger and destroy the world.

Unless the anime was about their quest TO do it. Then it could be fun watching all the little people squirm...

See, I find that stage most interesting. Not the omnipotence stage - no one likes an invincible hero - but where there are a lot of people at around the same level of strength, and they have to sort out their battles through, you know, actual tactics of some sort (though, to be fair, Naruto normally features this in any fight that's not mook slaughtering). In Bleach, we have an odd mix of power = victory virtually always, with very little tactics or swordplay beyond run really fast and hack, at least in any battle featuring Ichigo, and amazingly variable power levels. See, after Ichigo beats everyone up in the Soul Society arc, he suddenly regresses to being unable to defeat people he once beat while carved up like a pumpkin and with, if he wasn't an idiot, a single strike. So, yeah, Bleach doesn't have this stage (or the one you dislike, really) because it is written by a moron.

The masks are pretty cool, though.

Well, a bit too harsh imo, but unfortunately quite close to the truth perhaps.

Mind you, Ito does given an explanation as to why Ichigo is fluctuating in power so much, it's all about his state of mind and apparently the kid does suffer greatly from a serious case of low self esteem at times.

She never fights, she's just a decoy to keep the enemy's focus away from Kenpachi as he re-adjusts his hair bells.
