So, I rarely have the problem of choosing which I prefer. I find most dubs so attrocious that the subbed version is clearly superior. And now that I am studying Japanese, I like them even more.
However, I decided to watch some FMA over the break, and I can't choose which I want to use... It is one of the few good dubs out there. From what I have heard (meaning voices), it is at least equal quality to the Japanese version, in its own ways. There are probably ways it is both better and worst than it as well.
So, which do people think I should watch?

FMA dub is acceptable, but not one of the best I've seen. I'd rate the sub a little higher, because the Japanese voice actors are quite good.
Just get the dvds that have both? Or are you talking about the new series, which I don't think even comes dubbed yet? Really, dubs vs. subs is just a can o' worms.

I'm not looking for a general sub vs. dub debate. I'm just curious which people prefer in this specific series.

For me, there are certain voice actors/actresses whose presence on a cast list give me hope for a good dub. Vic Mignogna(Ed) and Caitlin Glass(Winry) working together in prominent roles is always a good sign that a dub will be at least acceptable, if not excellent(I found the dub for Ouran High School Host Club to also be pretty good, and those two do the voices of two of the main characters). And personally, when I can find a dub that I like, I prefer them over subs, though I'm not above finding certain subs better(Azumanga Daioh, for instance).

Subbed is fine, but I really do love the dubbed version for FMA. They just have so much fun with it. 
I only watched the first twenty or so episodes in English, the rest I ended up just watching subbed since that's all Jon had on his computer and I was lazy. The dub really is great, though, and I think for some parts I preferred it--it's just a lot easier to quote funny scenes to my friends if it's in English.

Okay wow, I hate those voices from the clips, but maybe it's just because I"m used to the other ones.
Boring either way. I'll say subs though.

Personally, the only dub I would go out of my way to tell people to watch is Ghost Stories, but it isn't because of the voice acting itself.

Crispin Freeman was born for that role, IMO.
I always go subbed. Somehow Japanese anime expressions and emotions always come off as pretty poor in English to my ears. In Japanese I find silly scenes like those Isyris linked hilariously goofy; in English I find them painfully embarrassing.
That said, I do really enjoy Vic Mignogna's voice. He was also Junpei in Persona 3 FES!

1. Acquired taste. Many anime fans watch fansubbed anime to get early release or save cash, and so familiarity breeds predilection.
2. Voice talent. Since anime is produced in Japan, they tend to have a wider selection of talent suited for the types of roles developed. A lot of American voice over actors do adult comedy or children's shows, and this may not be suitable for more dramatic anime series.
3. Cheese relief. It just doesn't sound as lame when ichigo says "getsuga tenshou" as it does when he says "moon fang heaven-piercer."

Dear god, don't get me started on the Bleach dub. I especially hate it when they leave some words in Japanese (no real good translation? Want to keep some names intact? Lazy?), then butcher the pronunciation.
But yes, mostly familiarity (although the first half dozen series I watched were all dubbed... I miss Toonami =(.), with a side of the Japanese voice actors sound less fake to me.

I like the subbed version. I usually prefer subbed or dubbed if I happen to watch it first but really, a decent dub is fine for me.

A single episode of the Naruto dub is enough to make you claw your eardrums out.
Then again, the voices are kinda annoying in Japanese, too.
I LOVE the "older" shippuuden versions though (Japanese).
Too bad Naruto got so ridiculously bad I can't stand to watch or read it anymore.

As for FMA, I started on the dub and actually think it is one of the best dubs I've heard, but I had to switch to the subs to finish the series and ended up liking those better anyway =/.

My best friend and I used to read/watch it in Japanese, before it got too ridiculous (luckily, we both started AFTER Shippuuden began, so we could skip the awful fillers. Well, she did. I watched it first and didn't realize it was all filler until 2-5 arcs in. I was like, "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!?!").
We kinda started saying "BUH-lieve it!" to friends when they were being stupid. No one got it but us. [EDIT] We watched it in Japanese [/EDIT]
Then we stopped watching Shippuuden, because (while their filler arcs were better from a 3-rd party view, they COMPLETELY clashed with the story of the show, creating villains that appeared and went down in one arc that were stronger than the villains of the actual story).
Then we stopped reading Naruto, because Sasuke is one of the stupidest characters ever. And we could tell things were about to get extremely ridiculous. A lot of people at her school read it and talk, so she has learned some things that have been going on. She tells me our decision to stop was the best thing we've ever done. XD

Like I said, though, I really like the adult voices for Naruto and Sasuke. They are actually very smooth, when they both had that whiny adolescent thing in the first show. Plus, in Shippuuden, Naruto tends to be more serious, so he's never screaming like he used to.
