I think it was more for insulting the Zammers than it was for defending Twilight.

Back when I was in the (NERD ALERT) Inuyasha fandom, Urd-chan, one of the two founding grandmothers of the fandom (the other was the late Kristine Batey, who we lost to breast cancer), called the 14-year old slavering hordes of fangirls the "teeny-boppers." Us serious fans, the adults, looked down upon them, gently mocked them, and in some cases kicked them out of our forums altogether. I was briefly part of a very mean livejournal committee whose sole purpose was to mock bad Inuyasha fanfics.

I view Twilight fans the same way. When I was 14, I was a serious hardcore Star Wars fan. Okay, I swooned a bit over Harrison Ford, but not to the point where I screamed and fainted at threw my panties at the movie screen. It's undignified.

Saw this for the sole reason of having seen the first one.

But to be honest, that was what I was expecting, so I really shouldn't be complaining.

Because nothing that Mazra, et al enjoys is retarded or boring to anyone.

Let me add, I think what really bugs me is how irritatingly hypocritical people are in this thread. I don't give two sh*ts about Twilight but when a bunch of people who have been invested in various forms of fandom and addicted to videogames, give some attitude to teenage girls for being rabid fans of something, it strikes me as retarded.

To most people, writing fanfiction of Inuyasha is ten times dorkier and more obsessive than liking Twilight, particularly as it lacks an adherence to a social phenomenon and doesn't have the attendance social benefit of promoting peer relationships. I'd defend people's right to like any fandom but not when you start giving attitude like you are too good for something.

Writing fanficion of Inuyasha is ten times dorkier and more obsessive than liking Twilight, yes, but writing fanfiction of Inuyasha is equally dorky and obsessive as writing fanfiction of Twilight. If we're going to do comparisons, then we should at least compare like issues.

Yet, I'm annoyed by Inuyasha fanfiction writers a lot less often than I am by Twilight fans. IMO, it's their sheer numbers that's the real problem. I can't go to the bookstore without tripping over squealing, obsessive Twilight fans, but I have to search out annoying otaku if I want to find them(except maybe the little kid Pokefans/Yugifans, but little kids are like that everywhere about something). Hell, I went to the public library the other day and overheard a sigh filled conversation about how dreamy Edward is. The last time I overheard a conversation at random involving any kind of anime fans was when I was in the anime section at the video store.

In case you're wondering, they were talking about whether Hellsing or Hellsing Ultimate was better.





What the **** is this? Because a couple squealing fangirls come together over something that's "mainstream" that's suddenly better than when "less mainstream" fans are brought together by their media? I met some of my best friends in high school because of anime or videogames. Well, and some of my best friends now became my friends mostly because of our shared anime/videogame interests. Is that not the promotion of peer relationships?

I was merely pointing out that you were completely ignoring friendships founded on anime/videogames when you seemed to think friendships fostered by Twilight are a good point of it.



Thanks for completely missing the damn point. It's not that Twilight is discussed less respectably, it's that I can't escape discussion of it. It's that it's damned everywhere. I just mentioned the library because it was the first memory that came to mind. If I had to hear discussions about ANYTHING as often as I do Twilight, it would get a bit grating. Give me some damn variety.

I mean, I understand how people like Ugly want to escape discussion of anime, but at least he can do so. He can turn on the TV or go out in public and have a good chance of not hearing about it. Sure, he has to deal with it here, but this is a set of forums built on the initial premise of video game discussion. It's a high risk zone. If I were hanging around high risk Twilight discussion zones like Hot Topic or a junior high school, then I wouldn't be complaining. But it's freaking everywhere.

If Twilight fans don't want to suffer from elitism maybe they should like something that sucks less.
