Has anybody else read the mangas? I just started reading Pokemon Special today and holy **** I did not expect this. I wish they would make a decent anime adaptation out of this, it seriously kicks ***.

My neighbor long ago had Pokémon manga. I found it to be vastly superior to the anime in every way. The anime seems very campy and cheesy to me, while the manga is darker, and stays much more relevant to the original game.

I wouldn't call the manga "darker." I mean, that would imply it has some darkness in it. Really the difference between the anime and the manga is nothing more than a PG instead of a G movie rating; in the manga, people talk about how Pokemon can attack humans not just other pokemon, and how evil Team Rocket is and how they abuse pokemon, and the Elite Four are actually after the genocide of all humans. But it really isn't dark at all.

I really enjoyed the first series and the second wasn't bad. Not sure if all of Gold/Silver is out yet, but what I've read thus far is pretty meh. Not better, but not too much worse. I did like how closely to the storyline most everything falls, and I also like how different from the anime it is. Like most anime geeks my age, I watched a ton of the show; the manga blows it out of the water, but I find myself missing some elements, like Brock and Misty being more involved, or having Jessie and James on Team Rocket. Also the drawing style is VERY distinctly different; not in a bad way, but in a way that I definitely notice it after watching so much of the anime. I think it's closer to what the style is in the games; more angular and defined.

Which pokemon were decapitated? Only one that comes to mind is that Arbok (which was cut in half), but it was later shown that they regenerate so it didn't matter.

Edit: Also, yes, as there's no blood it's pretty much PG :-P

It was "cut in half" around the mid-bottom of the head area. Aka decapitation.

And what type of logic is that lol! That's like saying they could show a sword cutting somebodies head off and still make the movie PG because 2 hours later he shows up okay.

Then you're in luck. Arbok's aren't cute. They're demonic wrap and poison sting-spamming servants of the cheating ******* computer that deserve to die in righteous fire.

They kind of annoyed me when I played the games.

They also do unmentionable things to female team rocket characters.

Wow I didn't even know a Manga existed for pokemon, I thought it was just cards->video games->show.

Slight Derail:
I would kill a drifter and sacrifice him to the gods for a Pokemon MMORPG

You wouldn't have to do anything special outside of creating servers. I'm willign to be force fed a basic Pokemon game just online and with other jag offs running around capturing wild monsters and fighting each other. It would make a fortune.

One night amongst a few hours of drinking I brought the idea up with some friends and everything they had to say against it were why I would play it.

"So you would just make a character and then pick one of 3 basic pokemon?"
yep

"Then just go out and try to find wild pokemon to catch?"
ohh yes

"What else would you possibly do? Challange other PC's to matches?"
ohh man im already getting hard from this

"I mean I guess you could have NPC's give you quests for equipment you would wear and it could give enhancments to certain types"
ohh sweet jesus yes

"What about crafting?"
you could make pokemon food, synth gear/equips for your character to wear to enhance his monsters or maybe even build modes of transport like bikes!

"It sounds like you want a pretty pokemon game with up to date graphics in a sandbox world that plays like all the other ones but lets you chat with people."
yes...this is exactly what i want

"That sounds stupid"
<faceplant>

There's already quite a few homebrew online Pokémon games. It's basically a ***** fest over people who use "cheap" pokémon to annihilate pokémon other people use because "they look cool."

Skarmory & Blissey combination will make some people **** themselves with anger because they refuse to put something in their team that can counter it. (Although, yes, it is cheap as holy hell)

I've read this up to the point where the fan translation stopped and I also would love to see an anime of it. I really can't stand the Pokemon anime, but the manga is great.

My favorite characters are Yellow, Sabrina and of course the badass Giovanni himself.

Here's a nice non-storyspoiler example of why I don't think young kids should read this manga. You'd never see this in the anime:
