Twilight-mania... what gives?Follow

Yes they do. The first two books are more geared towards younger kids because of Harry's age and relatability. As Harry gets older, the books get a lot darker and more mature. Hell, even the 2nd book is significantly more dark than the first one (there's actually death in it!)

I certainly wasn't advocating forcing Bella to have an abortion, I just think it's messed up to have the heroine of a book series targeted to teenage girls choose to not have an abortion despite people telling her that she WILL die if she doesn't get an abortion. It glorifies anti choice thought and basically turns Bella into a martyr for that movement. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, that's definitely a possibility. A lot of people seem to think that this kind of stuff doesn't influence people, but it does. It's just very subtle and a lot of people don't realize that they're being influenced. I mean hell, even Disney movies are guilty of that! Pretty much the only Disney movies where the heroine is a strong female and doesn't give up something vital to be with her man are Mulan and Beauty and the Beast. You don't think they have an impact on influencing kids to think that relationships work a certain way? I'm pretty sure they do.

I actually do have Twilight in my Netflix queue right now. I'll be honest, I am curious. Maybe one of these days when I have some free time I'll borrow the books from my younger sister and give them an honest chance so I can form a genuine opinion of my own that's fair. We'll see.

I thought you just said that the Harry Potter books shared target audience with the Twilight books. Are you saying Twilight's a children's book?

Personally, I find the progression the Potter books to be nicely done. You must remember that these books took some nine years from the first one was published to the last one. I remember getting the first book during Christmas a long time ago and I read the last book in English because by then I was old enough to be able to. Harry Potter has been part of many children's upbringing. And I don't necessarily think that the first books are different from the rest. They are merely there to introduce us to the environment, which is why there's very little about the various characters' issues.

Finally, I don't hate the Twilight series because it's popular. I hate the mania going on right now because I feel the teenage society is getting pathetic in their obsession with not just the literature, but also the two movies made. It should be noted that I hated the Harry Potter mania when it flourished too.



Thank you for providing us with such a shining example of the topic at hand. You think it's much better in movie than book form because you either lack the patience to read a book, have issues reading or find Edward/Indian guy to be hawt. Right?

Somewhat necro and I apologize for it, but I have a confession.

Long story short, I've seen New Moon and... it wasn't bad.

Not my favorite movie of the year (or last year, whatever), but not bad either. More special effects, less MTV and an overall nice soundtrack. I did find myself staring extraordinarily much at Kristen Stewart's butt to balance out the AMAZINGLY frequent scenes of muscular, tanned men with no shirts and waxed chests. Luckily they made Alice Cullen (Ashley Greene) one hell of a smoking hottie in this one, so it wasn't too bad.

What grinds my gears, though, is that I'm actually looking forward to the third installment. Bryce Dallas Howard starring in it doesn't make it easier either. Major eye candy available in that one, no doubt. Guess the mania got to me. Now to isolate it and bury it deep down where no one will ever find it...

All that said, though, the movie still contained a lot of those emocore /wrist scenes where I just felt like fast-forwarding. I didn't, though, because Kristen is wearing tight jeans throughout the entire movie, and those long emocore scenes usually include nice camera angles. Way to go, cameradude, high-five!

Oddly enough, the only part of the Twilight movie (the second one, fuck the first, nothing good about it at all) was Taylor Lautner's sexy body.

I totally straddle that gay/straight line sometimes.

Just turned 18 in February. It's legal to drool over him now ^_^

And yeah, there are some pretty crazy before-after pictures of him between the first movie and the second. Apparently it's all working out and eating right, but I dunno...

Yeah, I did that over the last year and... no. You need to gain mad weight while getting buff and then you need to lose it all while maintaining your muscle mass afterwards. I'm not saying he went roid-crazy, but that's not just turkey and lettuce.

Truth be told I've never seen the TV series, just the movie. I didn't have WB growing up. I know that Buffy dated Angel, I'm not aware that she dated any other vampires.

Seriously though, it's just a ******* tshirt. It's funny, most notably because it probably pisses off any obsessive Twilight fan.
