A classic samurai story, with all the gore of Gantz but surprisingly even more cruelty. Shigrui is a story of perpetual vengeance and suffering. The story follows primarily Seigen Irako and Gennosuke Fujiki as they meet and their hatred for each other grows.

While being anime, it flows mostly like a live action period drama. Animation primarily serves to permit the extreme amount of gore that is shown. If you're looking for something done more realistically, such as in the style of Monster, then Shigurui has much to offer.

I've watched Shigurui, it was an intense ride. Everyone in it is ambitious and cruel, even the 'good' guys. Life isn't worth a dime in this series.

I liked it, but the ending was inconclusive, which was rather annoying.

I dunno about that. I thought putting two episodes to a disc was pretty cruel.

Wow, you've got an awesome writing style.! I really dig the narrator's back story, humor, sarcasm, and the plethora of pop culture references. Altogether a refreshingly different RotR journal (not that I don't like the more traditional ones, mind you).
