Hm? Really no threads on this?

I had actually watched Code Geass a while back, and in the process of getting my father back into watching anime I became interested in it again, had to watch it through.

What are the opinions of the rest of you on this anime? Likes/dislikes? There has been a number of debates(arguments) about both the morality displayed in the anime as well as what really happens in the end. I am curios to know what others think about it.

I loved finding out how Zero got out of each episode's predicament.

Also, the ending of the two series was one of the best I've seen.

Well, the series is fairly old already, which is why you haven't seen any recent threads on it.

Looking for any depth in Code Geass is a flawed pursuit. The series is shallow. However, it doesn't need to be deep. Code Geass is a thriller. It's a nonstop ride of action and drama with excellent pacing. The series also has a very wide appeal in the same way that I found FMA to have. While I can imagine someone finding nothing to like in Code Geass, I believe it is one of the most difficult anime to find nothing you like about it.

That may be so but I have seen threads on topics older than Code Geass.

Figured it would be interesting then to mention it, see what others think.

I felt that there was more artistic merit than purely a thriller. It reminded me of a very stylized and energetic suikoden II in terms of the main characters (except not really, because its not the happiest of endings), as well as the rejection of ethics in favor of fighting about order and chaos.

Still can't say I have much of an idea what the **** the whole "I just spent 15 minutes yelling at the collective unconsciousness of the world) thing was on about.

Yeeeeeeeah, for a while that was awesome, but then it became more and more ridiculous and absurd that I gave up. The last one during the second series with the video was just BEYOND STUPID that it ruined the episodes that came before it for me. I seriously RAGED at that. Hard.

But that's what made it fun D:

The ridiculousness, not the raging.

I did feel it was more than just a thriller too, that's why I had enjoyed it so much, its different from the action, comedy, etc that I am normally accustom to in anime. And the ending is left relatively open, so you don't have to consider it all sad depending on what you think ended up really happening. That and who knows, considering the money they made off it it they might go for a movie or one more season, never can tell.

I didn't feel there was really a rejection of ethics.. not all of them at least. none of the characters were saints but many had ideals they felt truly were good. And as for Lelouch I felt his reasoning was fine(at least after the point he realized he was doing this for more than just his sister).

I don't know, at least the victories he has makes more sense than the fact that the universe seems to revolve around ruining his day.

If R2 was never made, it would have been similarly enjoyable. When I finished the first one I messaged allegory and I was like, "wow that was an awesome ending, ambiguous and a nice microcosm of the needless conflict" and he was all, "dude there's a second season."

Perhaps, though if it just ended after the first season it would of been way more open-ended, with more questions. At least the second season gives some amount of closure. To me the ending of the first season really seemed more like one **** of a cliff-hanger.

R2 was RIDICULOUSLY bad. It's a perfect case study in what happens when a company starts pressuring a writer. It's the same thing that happened with other series (such as Naruto).

It got to the point where I was only watching because I didn't want to just stop. I didn't like Lelouch. I didn't like Suzaku. I didn't like Rolo (I HATED him, actually). I hated Nunnally.

The characters I liked?

Lloyd, Cornelia, Shirley, CC, Arthur (the cat) and Kallen.

Of the 40 billion others, they all mostly made me want to kill myself.

It's sad, because it had a LOT of potential. While things were getting a little iffy at the end of season 1, I was still really excited for the second. 2 episodes in and I was already like, "What is this crap?"

It was a cliff-hanger. CG was never, to my knowledge, meant to be only one season.

The problem wasn't starting off "Some time later..." It was the other decisions they made.

The ending overall summed it up nicely. Had I seen the first season and that last scene, I would have been excited (albeit, extremely confused) about the rest of it.

But, on the whole, it was just terrible. Bad story-telling (rushed, with too many small things packed in), bad character development, and overall conflicting messages.

The only thing I thought was really good in R2 was the art, which was just as great as the first (and better in some ways).

It is more interesting to actually know why someone does or doesn't like a character. I can understand with some but I can only guess with others. Why do you feel this way about them? Personally I don't know why anyone could like Cornelia.

In that I was responding to Pensive's saying "If R2 was never made, it would have been similarly enjoyable."

Anyways besides you pointing out that it was rushed, which I actually agree to an extent with, I would like to know why you feel some things were bad or not. For me I found it quite enjoyable.

She annoyed me in season one, but I liked that she was one of the few people acting logically in season 2 (like actively investigating the Cult of the Geass).

She still kinda annoyed me, but I was happy just to have something interesting and understandable going on.

I suppose that does make sense. Though she was searching for the information on it merely because that was the big concern for her right? Other people had bigger concerns.

I just could never enjoy her as a character. She seemed to care about no lives aside from her knight's and that of her sister. That at she didn't really seem to act all that more logical that anyone else.
