Anyone seen this?

I'm really not into the romance/slice of life or shojo anime in general (I'm a guy after all) but I can say without a doubt that this is one of the best anime I've seen.

Simple but good story and amazing characters with all their qualities and flaws that makes them real are the strong points. It is based on a manga by Ai Yazawa. The anime covers the first 12 volumes of the manga (currently at vol. 21) There's talk of a second season once the manga wraps up.

I found myself so captivated by this anime, I ended up watching the entire serie (47 episodes) over the week-end.

If you're a fan of the genre or like me a fan of anime in general, I strongly recommend you give this show a try.

I rate it a solid 9

Yeah, normally I avoid the melodramas myself, but Nana is an exception because the story is so riveting.

My husband likes it even more than I do. He cosplays Yazu . . .

Ari and I have bonded over our love of the manga. I like the anime too. The live action movie sucks though. It took the life out of the story.

Those tend towards being my favorites. Hrm...time to go see if it's on Netflix.

Edit: Is this it? If so, Netflix doesn't have the anime, though it does seem to have the live action...which is always death.

Not all live action adaptations are bad. I was quite fond of the live action GTO, and Detroit Metal City. Real death is live action adaptation of an anime done in Hollywood. Look for Fist of the North Star, or my favorite tragedy: Guyver.

*Gasp!*

I loved Live Action GTO! Yes, it was ridiculous, but it was soooo funny! I saw it before I saw the actual GTO, though, so I'm biased. Actually, I didn't see all of the GTO anime. Did read all of the manga, which was awesome.

I'm starting to think our tastes in manga/anime aren't as compatible as I once thought :-( I feel so disheartened!

Maybe I just have a different threshold for when "ridiculous" is no longer "good" than you do.

Edit: Upon talking to my roommate, he mentions that all we saw was the movie and that he'd heard the series was better. Was it the movie or the series(or both) that you saw?

I saw the series; I think it was like 12 episodes or something. I watched the first 4 or so at Otakon, and the rest with my friends after we got home. The last episode is apparently the most watched episode ever in Japan. I don't remember seeing the movie... but for some reason, the words "Canada land" are in my head. Was that in the movie? If so, yes, the movie sucked compared to the series itself.

Yea that's the one. If you like the genre, you will love this anime.

Too bad she stopped doing this manga... I was really liked it, but there hasn't been a new chapter since like May. Hopefully she's going to come back to it.

Apparently she was very sick recently and is now getting better and back to drawing.

Really? Well, it's good to hear she's getting better then. I read somewhere that people thought she was just focusing on other projects.

Well, your health has to come first, and comics/manga work seems like a pretty mentally draining job if you ask me.
