So, I watched The Mist for the second time over the weekend (first time being when it came out).

At the end of the movie, when the truckload of survivors drives by, and one is a short haired woman holding onto some children. Was that the same woman who left the store at the beginning of the ordeal to go home to her children? The one who was asking for help from anyone to go with her?

Yep, but in the original book you never know what happened to her, David's wife, and the group after they pass the giant monster. They never off themselves (it was an option but never used), and the Army never showed up. They just keep driving into the Mist, heading towards a supposed safe zone being broadcast on the radio.

I need to re-watch this movie. There was something about it I liked, but everyone else who watched it with me hated it.

I really enjoyed the movie, and I liked the ending more than the one in the book. The short story is basically just a giant cliff-hanger. They are heading off toward a safe zone that might have been imagined. Odds are they all died. The movie's ending was brutal, ironic, and closed. I enjoyed it more.

Yes, the movie ending was perfect for people who lack the imagination to come up with their own ending.

I hate movies that end with cliff hangers. It's like the story writer wasn't confident enough to make it end, so they take the easy way out.

The ending in the book worked perfectly, the ending in the movie was just slapping in the guy's face for his lack of 'faith'. It ruined the movie for me, slightly anyway.

I'm not a fan of open endings, I hated the ending of for instance The Sopranos which was just bloody ridiculous, but in the book it just worked well. A hint of hope and no guarantees fitted the mood of the tale.

The movie is different ofcourse, and the build-up and visuals are really good imo, but the ending did not work well with it imo.
