Just finished watching Mai Otome yesterday, and started Mai HiME today (although HiME technically came first, they are somewhat separate entities). Not the best anime I've watched, but enjoyable nonetheless. I'd recommend it for anyone who likes Mahou Shoujo and is looking for something else to watch.

I liked both series a lot. Definitely among the better magical girl series.

Personally I'd rate it pretty high. It's not quite as good as Nanoha or Pretty Cure or anything, but it's a lot better than most.

Actually, I'd say it's pretty high up there. As Karlina said, there are better ones but I'd put it just a little behind the first couple seasons of Nanoha.

Comparing the two, Mai Otome was definitely a lot happier than Mai HiME is, now that I'm almost done with the latter. I'd say HiME is more gripping story-wise, but both of them are worth watching.

After finishing Mai-HiME, I am left wanting more... so now I guess I need another mahou shoujo to watch. Suggestions?

Have you seen Figure 17? Less action and more drama but still pretty good.
