So I'm watching the next generation. I've already finished all of DS9, and it is certainly the best shows of the series, though TNG is certainly the best Star Trek. Season 1 was a rough start, and I often found myself muttering "Dammit Wesley." I've heard his character often being the butt of jokes, but it was humorous to see how grossly gary stu and deus ex machina the plots involving him were.

That is not why I made this thread no one will care about. I made this thread no one will care about because 31 seconds into the beginning of episode 12 season 2 Geordi just stated a planet has a surface temperature of "negative 291 degrees Celsius." They're just not even trying. This has to be deliberate.

Come on Star Trek. Really? Come on. Fudge.

Haha, that's ******* hilarious. Has no one there even got a high-school diploma in physics?

DS:9 is, indeed, easily the best in the series. It avoids dealing with the embarrassment of the prime directive, Star Trek battle tactics (well, more than usual) and things actually happen and stay happened as its freed from the requirement to return to the status quo after every episode.

I disagree. I feel TNG is superior because it has Q.

That is all.

So did DS9 and Voyager, granted DS9 only had one Q based episode IIRC. Even TOS had a Q, Trelane.

Well, Trelane being a Q isn't really canonical. It was written in the novel Q-Squared by Peter David, iirc, and the books aren't canon.

Heh, that is pretty bad. I love shows that spout out sciency stuff to sound exciting, when really it's a bunch of utter crap (I'm looking at you, CSI and other related shows).

My partner is a programmer, and every single time they try to explain any computer process on a fictional TV show he spends 5 minutes afterward cringing and shaking.

He desperately wishes they'd just say "this magic whizz-new technoprogramme" and leave it at that.

The only thing that could have made TNG better would have been Shatner.

Reminds me of The Fifth Element where they try to measure the temperature of The Great Evil. The captain claims the sensors must be broken because one is showing two million degrees and the other minus five thousand.

So the Great Evil was a Jewish grandmother.

I was going to write a post about how that show was made in '88 and how your average person didn't really know much about science back then, (not that they do now, but it was worse then) but then I realized that I remember watching the episodes as the premiered and realized how old I've gotten. Thanks a lot for that reminder there Allegory.Smiley: glare

So the Great Evil was just a giant Baked Alaska?

They knew that minus 291 C was below absolute zero.

I'm sure that they did, but I'm equally sure that the average person would have had to look it up to know that.

I will have to say this about this DS9 episode with Q though it had one of the greatest Q lines ever. "You hit me! Picard never hit me!"

Which is just one reason I like DS9 better than any other of the series - Sisko was just badass.

I propose we design a hiarchy of bad assitude to rank the captains of Star Trek and perhaps even leaders in sci-fi in general.

Well if you were more like me you wouldn't have to do that. I have all the Star Trek, both series and movies, except for the utter crap that was the eleventh movie. I also have all the Are you Afraid of the Dark? and Twilight Zone, and am coincidentally watching one of the 2 Twilight Zone episodes with Shatner in it.

More like you how? If you're about to tell me to download it, I'll tell you f*ck off.

If you don't want to download there's always the option of buying, though that can get rather expensive I guess. I have them simply because I like being able to watch any episode, of any of the aforementioned series, whenever I want. This is especially true during seasonal breaks in the few remaining shows I watch.
