I watched Rise of the Fallen and for the first time in a long time, I actually found a sci-fi actiom movie too long. The Lord of the Rings was awesome and I enjoyed every single moment, which there were a lot of (12-hour extended edition marathon, go!), but with Transformers it just got too dull.
Maybe it had to do with the crazy camera handling (what's up with the hand-held epileptic **** they present these days?) and maybe it had to do with lack of proper acting (at times the movie felt like a B-movie production), but I caught myself yawning in the theatre.
And as far as I've noticed, 90% of the time, people are yelling or being frantic in their speech. Seriously, if you had to write a book over the movie, your 1-key would need replacing (I don't know what key on US keyboards holds the exclamation mark). Shia is constantly talking/yelling as if he's about to die and he really needs to say a couple of hundred script lines before punching the ticket. Everyone is yelling, sometimes just for the sake of yelling. It made it seem too fake.
Then there were the unrealistic things that made me twitch when thinking about it. Not so much the whole 'robots turning into vehicles and fighting each other' unrealism, but more the 'we're an anti-Decepticon military squad who gets help from other transformers, but we'll just waste a couple of dozen soldiers by NOT sending in the mega robots first' unrealism.
And they've been fighting Decepticons for a year or so since the first movie, right? And it's all a big hush-hush. Well, if every fight is like the one in Shanghai or wherever that was, who the hell doesn't know? I mean, a giant truck transforms into a huge robots which proceeds to tear apart the city before being wtfowned out in public. Oh yeah, gas slip. Suuuure.
