I kind of like the idea of Disney going back to basics. I know, I know, their basics involved taking old stories and butchering them into family friendly musicals, but truth be told ... I never really minded. Consider it a guilty pleasure, but I've usually enjoyed the animated films and music, from Pinocchio to the Lion King. I actually kind of liked olde Disney movies. I don't know why, but I'm actually looking forward to seeing this.

Unfortunately I had cheated and known about this movie back in 2007.I don't have a problem with the new Disney style, but it would be nice to see them shake up the formula a little, even if it's only back to an older formula.

The last Disney flick I was charmed by was Aladdin. The Lion King was only "meh" for me, and after Pocahontas, I gave up on the genre entirely. So if they can get back to the charming sort of animated movies that they stopped making in the early 90s, I'll be thrilled.

I don't remember where or what movie I went to see (it might have been Crank 2 lol) but they had a small clip of this movie.

I'm glad to see Disney (or any company) use actual cell-drawn cartoons (or comp'ed helped). The time and skill it takes is amazing and even if the movie sucks, if it is visual entertaining, I'm happy.

The wiki link...

I didn't know Disney was putting out the Prince of Persia movie.
But then they have had to branch out to still be around .___.

They need to make a Kingdom Hearts movie >.> that would be BA.

The thing about old-school disney is that they snuck in subliminal sex references into all their movies. Hopefully they wont this time.

Well, as a teenager I found the single frame profile shot of the priest marrying Eric and Ursula-in-Disguise popping a woody amusing, but as a parent, I'm glad that frame has been removed from later releases of the movie. Same for the moment when Aladdin is on Jasmine's balcony trying to talk down the tiger and then suddenly whispering "Take off your clothes!"

It was funny when I was 16. Not so much when I imagine my kid seeing it.

Or two penises.

Seriously, don't you have anything better to worry about than weather or not your kids know what the subliminal stuff in the cartoons you grew up with are?

Isn't there a pandemic going around or something?

Bah, subliminal influence is bull. I remember learning about it back in high school and then our teacher lettign us know that despite all the hype, sublimal images actually were never shown to work (ie, making people want popcorn, sex, etc). Now, adding in hardcore **** for 1/16th of a second does work, and will make kids cry.

Er, or so I hear.

Edit: And I am totally looking forward to this movie. I'll admit it.

I used the wrong "whether" in that post, but I'm not going to edit it.

So there.

Disney is the devil. I used to enjoy the theater, but now everything is Disney. I hate their cheezy songwriting, I hate their music, I hate their all-encompassing tentacles slithering into every aspect of our children's lives.

And by "theater" I mean, live, on stage-type shows, not films.

I believe the common consensus is that overall, Pixar films are pretty awesome.

I shall put forth Wall-E as an example.

Ya, their "2D" stuff has sucked since The Lion King (although I did find Lilo & Stitch funny. Especially the part where she says something & he slaps her across the face), but Pirates were surprisingly cool as well.

Did you ever see the Lion King live on stage? That was pretty awesome.

Part of me wants to think like that, especially now that I'm a parent as well, but then the logical part of my brain screams at me, telling me that my daughter won't be able to interpret it like that until she's a teenager as well, and by then she'll both be mature enough not to panic about it, and I'll have explained and talked to her about it anyway. Its really not that big a deal, really.

I used to like them a lot, but the company jumped the shark once they released "the return of jafar" and then churned out sequels direct to video. Then they started doing b-grade live action films, and now its the whole "TV Franchise" thing like hanna montana and high school musical.

As for this, well it looks nice. You can't say disney isn't a master of animated art. It doesn't hook me though. The background changes (19th century new orleans?) but you still have the same old same old. It's like all the studios have their defined style and never set foot out of it.
