Just got done watching this tonight, and it was pretty good. I have watched a lot of Star Trek and I enjoy both Star Wars and Trek in all of its different flavors. This is a solid addition to franchise and I cant wait for the next one. Even if you arent a fan of trek, its a good action flick.

I'm going to watch it this sunday in the original version (meaning the not translated one) and I can't wait for it. Even though I'm not a huge Star Trek fan the trailer was impressive. And it has Eric Bana as a villain!

Worth seeing. Really enjoyable movie.

I thought it was pretty audacious for J.J Abrams to try to reinvent Star Trek but he surprisingly succeeded in my opinion.

Yeah, 'cause re-inventing old television shows as a feature film has just never been done before. The daring! The gall! Clearly he's a true visionary.

Wow!

You completely missed the point. Basic reading comprehension is not your cup of tea, I guess.

Really liked it, too.
Has everything a good sci-fi movie needs imo.
Does anyone know if there is a sequel planned?

It's a good movie, spectacular to watch and interesting too. Always a good combination.

I can understand why some of the big fans are upset though. (spoilers ahead!)

Altering the entire Star Trek universe by annihilating the Vulcans, well that does influence a heck of a lot of the rest of Star Trek. Voyager is pretty much dead, not that big of a loss though I suppose Smiley: grin

As for that Star Wars tribute that was added, it made as much sense in this movie as it did in Star Wars The Phantom Menace.

No predator is ever going to leave a kill to hunt for a smaller and not yet killed prey, that's just childish and idiotic. A cat might though, just for the fun of it.

I do wonder though, why kill Archer's dog? Enterprise wasn't that bad a series Smiley: lol

Truly an amazing movie gladly saw it twice and would see it again. The only thing is it killed a lot of startrek history, and over 2/3 of the original series would never happen now. However thinking of it as a linear story continuation nothing has changed it's simply another "Mirror, Mirror" episode but with more. My curiosity is with Spock prime in the past again and with his past disregard for advancing scientific discovery by pointing it out to the creators how much faster will Starfleet develop with his "help?" Are we going to see Romulan, Klingon, Ferengi, Borg, Cardassian, Ect Technology cropping up too soon?

Karl Urban had to have been channeling Dr. McCoy. that had to be the most entertaining performance in the film... with maybe Simon Pegg's Scotty to tie.

Knowing Spock (Prime), he wouldn't interfere with such situations if he can avoid it, as he knows what would happen if he interfered with the course of events too much. I mean he was adamant about letting Kirk and his younger self form a trusting friendship on their own rather than coming with Kirk and informing the younger Spock about the timeline events and what needed to be done in order to set things right. Even in his old age, Spock is still bound by logic enough to know that it's unwise to pollute time any more than it already had been, and giving them future technology and information is among such things.

What I'm more curious about is whether or not the Temporal Investigations of the 29th Century (the organization that deals with upholding the Temporal Prime Directive) will mend this, or if they even still exist following the events that happened in the movie.

I just saw the movie tonight and all I have to say is damn, that guy really needs to avoid cliffs and ledges. He almost fell into a 'bottomless pit of doom' 4-5 times.

The way I see it when Spock and Romulans went back in time they also managed to cross over into a parallel universe. Therefore the TI can't interfere because history says Spock disappears at that point of time, it wasn't an intentional alteration it was supposed to happen. The TI (in both universes) will leave him alone as long as he doesn't try to blatantly alter the future of the universe he currently inhabits.

It wasn't that they crossed over into a parallel universe. Their incursion into the past created the alternate timeline, as the Kelvin was never supposed to come across the Narada, George Kirk wasn't supposed to die at that moment, which in turn is what caused James Kirk to be the rebellious youth that he was. Furthermore, it was through technology salvaged by some of the damage of the Narada following the Kelvin ramming into it that allowed the Enterprise and other ships built following that battle to seem more advanced (according to the screenwriter). As such, between the alteration to Kirk's history, the destruction of Vulcan, and the premature advancement of Starfleet technology, the events in Star Trek would be a clear violation of the Temporal Prime Directive.

He already has altered the future by giving them technology decades ahead of time. But then, not all changes in the past are corrected (or correctable) by the TI, there was that destruction of a colony in Enterprise that wasn't supposed to happen but was never undone.
