So, has anyone watched this and feel like talking about it? Because this is one disturbing as hell series, and I was wondering what other people's thoughts were on it. Going to give a general SPOILER WARNING for this as a heads up.

Not seen it. I read a quick description, it looked interesting, and my interest was peaked when I saw how few people were seeding it. I like coming across series or ovas that have a high merit to viewership ratio. I stumbled upon Mushishi from ANN's most underrated list. It's currently on their top ten best rated.

I'll tell you what I think of the OVA in... 2 days.

I will forever hate Alien Nine. Regardless of what the series actually is.

My roommate in college liked Anime, and watched Alien Nine. He then decided that he was going to dress up like one of the girls... with the alien hat thing and all.

So, you have a 6'5"(ish) guy, with long hair, and pimples all over him, wearing a school girl outfit and a homemade alien hat symbiote thing. For two days straight. Walking around acting just plain retarded...

My fiance, aka Dr. Anime, says that the entire thing is a metaphor for menarche. The girls are grossed out by the icky things and keep wondering why this has to happen to them.

The manga artist apparently did work in technical illustrations for a long time, and just sort of got the idea to draw ladies with screwdriver hair, and it went from there.

its actually better to try and get the boxed set which has the anime and all 3 volumes of the manga. The ova is based off of the first manga and is a very short story arc. There's a scene in the end credits which only will make sense reading the manga, and its probably one of the most disturbing scenes you'll see in it.

tbh has he even seen it? 2 of the 3 girls aren't grossed out by it at all, and even with yuri the gross-out phase of the borg itself is minor compared to the trauma she has to go through catching them and losing control and killing them, graphically.. What's chilling to me at least is how yuri is the only one reacting naturally, some of the aliens and incidents she goes through are life-threatening. The other two only even understand her when she manages to broadcast her fear through the symbiote after being savagely attacked by three borg-wearing boys.

The teachers though, now interpreting them is what bugs me. That and the yellow knife. The whole yellow knife thing is still a big wtf even now.

He read the manga, which is a bit more abbreviated than the anime.

The anime is only the first volume of the manga and it pretty much was faithful to my memory of it. I think they added some more with the teachers talking, but its actually only 4 episodes, which sucks. If he's familiar still with it it ends with kasumi and the yellow knife, although that one part in the credits i think leads into or is in volume 2.

Have him watch it though sometime, its pretty intense.

Alien Nine. Four volumes of cute and happy, and totally insane and fucked up at the same time. I'm a sucker for things like that though so I loved it. (for something even more screwed up check out another series of his called Milk Closet)

The anime was pretty good too but it only covered the first and little bit of the second volume of the manga.

9 seems to be a popular number lately.

The Animated movie "9" is in production and should be out before too long.

The movie "9th District" is coming out this summer (also alien/sci-fi)

Might have to check this series out as well.

I guess abbreviated isn't the right word . . . Like most manga>anime adaptions, Alien Nine adds some extra details for exposition purposes. I suppose "condensed" is a bit more accurate for what I was trying to describe. The anime is richer in how it explores the story, even though it only covers a small portion of the story.

(Of course, the additional levels of detail aren't always a good idea, re: Dragon Ball and its sequels, where each 13 page chapter was stretched into a 23 minute anime, leaving to the infamous five minute fights that take 3 episodes.)

I like Alien 9, but it's so weird it's hard to place.

(And my fiance does this to all anime, ruining some of them. He wrote a 30 page paper on Ebichu the Housekeeping Hamster.)
