Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Episode 1 Follow

#1 Apr 06 2009 at 4:33 PM Rating: Decent
Just finished watchign the first episode not realy sure what to make out of it...

I was kinda exspecting a better start but they jumped into a quick plot type...thing fairly quick

the look it shinier then the old series at times It looked fairly cool but there were others where things just didnt look like they should Characters seem a bit more funny in this one then the other series but this is the first episode so I guess will have to see how it turns out

overall i give the first episode a fairly good score not as good as the 1st series atm but theres still plenty of episodes left (i assume)

Thanks for reminding me. I can't believe I forgot FMA2 was starting this soon. From what I've read the first episode is a filler meant to catch the eyes of viewers not familiar with the original story. The second episode onward is supposed to be the beginning of the actual plot.

I'm not certain about how to view the series. I generally prefer waiting for longer series to complete so that I may watch episodes at my own pace, but I feel this will be too popular a series for me to resist staying out of the loop.

I like getting longer series all in one batch as well. Manga the same way, really. It kind of gets frustrating waiting a week at a time for the next part of the show.

I'll continue watching FMA:B just because of the Ed Batâ„¢. That made me chuckle.

It seems like an effort was put forth to keep the animation exactly the same as the old series, but is it me or are Ed's eyebrows different? His face doesn't seem the same.

Ohh, will have to watch this later. I also generally prefer waiting until a series is out to watch it, but sometimes exceptions can be made Smiley: tongue.

FMA is my absolute favourite, ever. So I'm a very happy girl.

However, it seems they're going a bit more PG in this series and the animation is a bit less "real" persay, than the first one. The characters seem a bit more cartoony in this one, and they didn't show the dead bodies or all the blood/attacks like they did in the original. The Manga is much bloodier than the first series, so hopefully they don't censor it too much.

Anyone else think Roy and Kimblee's voices don't fit? Kimblee especially, I sat there and actually said "what a ***** voice" when he spoke.

It all seemed a bit cruder to me, although it could be imagination.

I agree, doesn't seem as polished, which is sad. FMA was the top show in Japan for a long time, you'd think they could keep on par with the quality the second time around. I'm not basing my opinions on the first episode only though, so we'll see.

After watching the episode, it was pretty good... However, my memory of the last season is a little hazy and I think I've missed something about this season. Is this a complete redo of the first season, going down a different path? Why is Hughes alive?

It's a restart, not a continuation.

The previous season wasn't like the manga, this new remake is going to follow the manga. So I suppose you can forget pretty much everything that happened in that previous season and movie.

Then I already know what's going to happen for the first dozen episodes or so, right? Cause they didn't diverge right away, right?

Yes, but you don't know what types of camera shots, angles, and lighting they will use, so it's still worth watching!

And more use of Ed Batâ„¢, hopefully.

Fine, but I want you to know you are incredibly lazy. It's not that hard to type a few characters in Google.

Mustang's face was definitely different--more cartoony. Aromstrong's head wasn't as wide as before. The actualy action sequences were animated better than the original series, but posturing during normal dialogue is worse. Normal conversations seemed less genuine.

I also got a kick out of the new intro. Although I don't much like it in its entirety right now I think the scene where Ed and Alphonse are unraveling is great. I also thought it was funny when you see first Ed twitch and unravel, then Alphonse twitch and unravel, and then Winry just sort of spazzes out doing a little dance. Poor Winry, she wanted so badly to fit in with the others.

Meh.. just from the opening alone I can tell they need to rehire the old animator/artists or whatever. Every single person who was supposed to have a stern look just had a long rectangular face with a big rectangular nose. Bring back the old look for Eds father and scar przu.

I was discussing the episode with a friend and he brought up a point I never, but should have, thought about before. The manga is still going. If the manga doesn't finish up quickly enough then the series will either have to diverge again or go into horrendous fillers.

I did a calculation to see how long we had until we reached that point. One manga chapter is released each month, and I assume 4 episodes of FMA2 per month. Currently we are on chapter 94. I assumed 1 manga chapter = 1 episode. That gives about 2 years until we reach chapter 94, and 31 months until the anime catches up to the manga. It's fully possible the manga could wrap up in that time.

General consensus is the manga is ending soon - and if you're currently reading it as it's released in Japan, it's pretty evident. That will be a very sad day.

But, I gotta say, as much as I don't really like Roy, crap is he kicking major *** these days.

Well 3 episodes are out, and the tone definitely tends towards comedy more than drama. I also get the feeling that the key events flow less easily together. This might be a side effect of the story being rushed in the beginning. Rose didn't feel developed enough as a character.
