I can't really see how people read that stuff, honestly. That whole lauren hamiltion-ish subgenre. You have:

-an empowered, always sexy woman who happens to be:

1. A werewolf
2. A vampire
3. A witch
4. A necromancer, which is like a witch until they forget about it in the plot.

-a sexy and dangerous love interest who happens to be:

1. a vampire
2. a werewolf
3. a fallen angel
4. a were-creature that makes no sense like a wereleopard. Seriously, how do white people who look like eurotrash fashion models get bitten by one?

Add plenty of ancient evil, and sometimes add plenty of kinky sex which puts male fantasies to shame. No seriously, this time it isn't our fault. You want a huge contrast between male written supernatural fiction and female, go read F Paul Wilson's Repairman Jack books, then go read Anita Blake Vampire hunter.

Sorry to be ragging a bit on it, I've seen that series around so it has to be pretty good to last as long as it has. But i never really "get" it though.
