The Prisoner: (spoilers, although old series)Follow

Opening sequence for those needing a reminder of the series.

After finally having finished the series, I must admit that I'm still quite puzzled by it.

Who exactly is no.1? Was it no.6 after all? Or the butler?

What was Rover? Why was there a scene with guards sitting round one?

Who controlled the Village?

I can understand that there was some commotion after that final episode, it doesn't answer all that many questions, quite on the contrary.

I did hear a recent comparison to "Lost". That's not really fair to either show imo, although I fear that Lost will have a similar open ending and that would cause a heck of a lot more commotion.

McGoohan has said many times that the series was allegorical, so there are no easy answers. The final episode throws up as many questions as it does answers. That brief scene where No.6 unmasks No.1 reveals that it is the evil inside ourselves that is the real enemy. But the series is so strange and surreal that people are still coming up with new theories even today and that ultimately is why it has such longevity.

Aha, so that would explain my confusion Smiley: grin

I googled it and there are indeed many explanations.

Didn't know before today, but Patrick McGoohan died last Wednesday.

Sad part was that I never heard a thing of it in local news.

Checking out his bio on [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001526/bio]imdb[/link], it's interesting to read that he was sought to play Gandalf before McKellen did and also Dumbledore before Harris took the part.
