Heads up -- "Legend of the Seeker" is premiering this weekend, Nov. 1st. This is a new fantasy series based on the "Sword of Truth" novels by Terry Goodkind. It's produced by Sam Raimi and the other folks who brought us Hercules and Xena -- though this one won't be as tongue-in-cheek as those. The show is syndicated, so it may be hard to find. You can look up your time and station at the official site:

http://www.legendoftheseeker.com/

There's also a Facebook page for more info:

And you can even view the first 30 minutes of the pilot for free on ITunes:

Hope you can all watch!

I am looking forward to this show. I watched the first 10 minutes at the website. Looks like it should be really good. I am excited to see the full showing on Nov 1st. I hope it stays close to the books because they are great.

Hopefully better than the books.

The series had potential but after starting off like a poor mans Shannara they each turned in to the same thing over and over..someone gets kidnapped...Everyone worman loved Richard....Bla..

I do hope the TV series is better.

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert said at Comic-con that they're committed to staying true to the tone and premise of the books, but not necessarily the plot per se. They want each weekly episode to be stand-alone, so you can come into the series in the middle and not be too lost. Better than the books? Well, we'll see!

First show tomorrow! Don't forget!

I certainly think that TV series are almost always a better format for translating a book, or books, to screen, than stand-alone movies.

Good book-to-movies are rare, it's most usually successful when it's a short story being translated. It's simply a size problem, illustrated perfectly by "Pride and Predjudice". The 6 hour total BBC TV series told the story perfectly. The TV version was great to watch, and it covered everything that happened in the book. The various movie versions made have all had to drastically cut out dialog, entire scenes or sub-plotlines, and the story has definitely suffered for it.

This of course sounds like they are not planning on exactly translating the books scene by scene to TV. I actually rather liked Xena a lot, so that's encouraging.

That was a most entertaining and hilarious read! It pretty much tripled my interest in tracking down the show. :)

Well I will admit to enjoying the show.

IT felt true to the book and moved along at a nice pace. The action sceans were well dont and it was translated well.

What will make the series , I think, will be how they treatthe Mother Confesser in the series. I think the should stick with the books and show har as the midlands authority figure and not Richards sidekick.

I didn't get to see the 2hr premier on Sat, as I was 4 hours from home when it came on (at a high school football play-off game).

However, another/part "1" was on Yesterday (uh, one chick parted green-slime wall and ran away from dudes.. tries to find some Wizard..Zedicus..one dude kills other dudes father..takes book..the seeker is named..dude that looks like the Prince or Persia wakes up and is all like "he lives!!!").

It seems cool.

I downloaded it from iTunes tonight and will try to watch it soon. I somewhat enjoyed the first book. Richard was the weak link imo, but I loved Chase, Amnell, and of course Zedd.

It's a fun show, if you are into this and can separate yourselves from the books (also good fun, real page turners!).

Wondering what people are making of it now that it's been on a few weeks? Some good looking episodes coming up, particularly one that suggests a Mord-Sith episode -- Denna.

Last week's show was one of the better ones, and this week looks pretty cool too.

I've missed the last few weeks because our Tivo DVR broke, so I'm starting fresh from this week. So far I'm more glad they're not trying to follow the books exactly and ruining it.

Otherwise - TV Kahlan doesn't have red hair, TV Richard doesn't look, act, or feel anything like Richard, and Zed is horrible. But I've been able to get over that, surprisingly!

Kahlan doesn't have red hair. At least not in the first three books.

You can always get these on iTunes the Monday after it airs.

RE: Richard. He is a bit small. Goodkind does talk about Richard being a big dude.

Still, I am enjoying the show!
