There are some spoilers in this article:

http://trekmovie.com/2008/05/27/spoilers-details-on-star-trek-movie-ships/

Excerps:
Quote:

The USS Kelvin
The Kelvin is a Federation starship from a generation before the Enterprise and smaller than the Enterprise. It is of a new ship class never seen before. The ship is commanded by Captain Robau (Faran Tahir) with George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth) as first officer. Locations seen on the ship include the bridge (which reflects an earlier design than the Enterprise and is a lot ‘busier’), corridors, sickbay and engineering.

The Romulan Ship
TrekMovie.com previously reported that the primary villains of JJ Abrams Star Trek are the Romulans, who come from the 24th century. They travel through time in a ship, but the ship is not necessarily built for time travel. The ship is commanded by Nero (Eric Bana). The design of the interior of the ship is apparently different than traditional TNG era Romulan design and said to be ’surreal.’ It is not yet known what the name of this ship is.

Spock’s Time Ship
As reported before, the Star Trek film involves time travel and elder Spock (Leonard Nimoy) traveling through time. However (contrary to previous rumors about the Guardian of Forever) Spock uses a Vulcan ship specifically built for time travel. The ship is small and has a crew of one (Spock). The film will feature the bridge and also the ship’s ‘time core.’ It isn’t known what the name of the ship is, and it may be that the ship has no name.

It's a testament to how far this franchise has fallen that I simply can't motivate myself to care about this new project in even the tiniest way.

It doesn't sound all that bad.

It can't ever get as bad as the Star Wars franchise.

And apart from the last ST movie, the Next Generation movies weren't bad. First Contact and Insurrection were even quite good.

Ofcourse, this new movie isn't going to be TNG anymore, but I'm still hopeful.

I'm going to wait and see. I don't have feelings about it either way.

That said, I will give it a try. At the most, it's only $6 wasted.

I think John Cho as Sulu is my favorite bit of casting here.

I'm optimistic about the movie because it's written by the same guys who wrote Transformers. If the script's good, nothing else really matters.

Well, there's our problem right there. The original cast is too old for us to buy them as these characters anymore (not to mention two of them are dead.) The TNG cast won't be making movies any more. Neither DS9 or Voyager ended on a note that lends itself to a continuing movie franchise. Neither Voyager nor Enterprise could possibly motivate to me CARE about a continuing movie franchise.

So there are NO options for making a movie about the Star Trek we're familiar with. Which means that some greedy moron decided to hatch this dumbass scheme about re-casting the Original Series characters. And it's just not going to fly, at least not with me. The rapport we develop with these characters is based as much upon the actors' portrayal of them as it is upon the writing of the character. I suppose its possible to develop a rapport that is different yet still real with the new actors, but honestly, I can't be bothered to try. Far as I'm concerned, the franchise is dead.

Actually Simon Pegg rather attracts me to watching this movie. I think his work in Spaced (TV series), Saun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz is brilliant.

It's pretty much all a single character, but I love it, and he's certainly proved himself as a comedic actor. I think he could be great in a "Character-Role" like Scotty.

I love Star Trek so I am hopeful but I don't want to get too excited about it. I will definitely watch it but I don't want to build it up and find it a massive disappointment. I have had that happen in to many movies and games.

BLASPHEMER

I for one don't care if it IS an odd-numbered movie. I will be there with Spock-ears on.
