Help remembering book series(also book recommendation Q's).Follow

I'm trying to remember a book series I read as a kid.

I remember it having different aspects involving Chaos and Order. IIRC Chaos was White(and bad) and Order was Black(and good). This was a theme throughout the books and there were exceptions. They took place in different times. IIRC there was also a sci-fish aspect with people that landed on this particular planet in a crashed space ship.

Also, I'm down to my Xanth books for reading material. It's not that I don't want to read them it's just that it's been so long that I don't know if I can take all the puns all over again. Smiley: lol

If anyone has some good book suggestions I'll take those as well. In my teenage years I enjoyed authors like Robert Jordan, Piers Anthony and that last book series I just mentioned.

Lately, however, I've been enjoying British authors. I've enjoyed the different kind of humor that they write. I've been known to enjoy Sci-fi but the main thing I enjoy is Fantasy based. A bit of mystery is great, something to get your mind thinking. I especially enjoyed the Terry Pratchett novels revolving around the Night Watch. I also loved the Dirk Gently books by Douglas Adams(Hitchhikers series needs not be mentioned, only communists don't like the Guide.).

So there's my two-part question. Who was the author that wrote that book series(and name of it)? Also, if anyone could recommend some good British Fantasy/Sci-fi/Mystery books along the lines of Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams, that would be great.

I haven't a clue about the series you search the author for I'm afraid.

As for new fairly fantasy styled series to read, you could try Jack Vance's "Lyonesse" trilogy. Not as much humour, nor very British but still very good. There's always the Great book of Amber by Zelazny too.

For more humorous fantasy, try the Thraxas series by Martin Scott. Not as refined as Pratchett, a bit limited in style, but at times very fun.

I recommend the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Its got mystery and magic and theres like 10 books out now and 2 comics, hes gonna write about 20 books or so.

It's the Recluse series by L.E. Modesitt jri think.

And a good British Sci-fi writter would be Peter F Hamilton.

Sounds like either the Darkover books by Marion Zimmer Bradley (and friends) or the Recluce books by L.E. Modesitt. Recluce stories not as old as Darkover stories, but I don't know how long ago you were a kid :-)

As for other ideas, have you tried the books by Robin Hobb? Or the work of Guy Gavrial Kay ... his - Tigana - is in my opinion one of the top 10 fantasy novels ever written.

You might also try Lois McMaster Bujold. She has both sci fi and fantasy series that are enjoyable reads.
